I think it'd be super cute to put your toddler in a high chair and make a cake for them - their ageing animation will be them making a mess with the cake for a little bit. Then it can do that sparkle thing, spin the high chair, and they'll pop out as a child.

That's always what my family did for our first birthdays, gave the babies a small cake and let them go to town on it. I think it's the funniest, cutest, thing!

Honestly, you could probably do this for the infants because by the time they age to toddler that's about 1-year-old and they should be able to sit up by themselves, I'd like for babies to have a bit of a birthday too rather than family just standing over their bassinet yelling, I mean becoming a toddler is a pretty big deal. Your parents kept you alive! That's an accomplishment, I'd celebrate with cake! XD Since they're so much tinier than toddlers it could add a bit of soft padding around them, cuz they're still fragile. That way they wouldn't have to make another object for toddlers.

Either way, I think it would be a lot of fun for babies and toddlers to have actual birthdays too!

Not sure if this was mentioned (so many pages wowow) but some random ideas:

    - day cares or play places (like a gym/ indoor park) you can take toddlers to level moter skills, meet other toddlers. There good be ball pools, tiny jungle gyms, slides, sand pits, toys etc.
    - option of cloth diapers (needs laundry but saves on throwing out waste bin so often)
    - Diaper rash causes cranky/upset toddler (cloth diapers lesson rash chance)
    - bedding wetting
    - water diapers (mischievous toddlers can pee in the pool??? Lol)
    - Sleep in the parents or siblings bed

    - many colour/pattern options for diapers, onesies, footie pjs, those mittens with strings so the kid won't lose them haha

I dunno if it's been mentioned, but jogging strollers would be awesome. It's the first game where sims had the ability to multitask, so it'd be great if sims were able to get exercise and work on their athletic skill while taking their babies/toddlers out in the neighborhood.

Also, it's not really an idea for the toddlers as a life state, but just general introduction of them: I'd really love if they managed it kind of like the new lot traits, so the toddlers themselves and some basic amenities for them (high chairs, potty chairs, toddler specific toys, etc) were introduced in an update around the time of a family oriented expansion, so that players get toddlers regardless of whether they buy the expansion or not, but have the option of buying an expansion with more content for toddlers included. I'd hate for such an amazing life state to be locked behind a pay gate. That said, I'd still spend money on an expansion that gave me more interactions and items for them happily if I at least HAVE them.

    Just my two cents.

Please, please, please! I'm begging you! Even if I have to pay for it, please add toddlers and untether the babies from their cribs and add more interactions.

    Suggestions:

Along with what you said, I will also add my suggestions in.

    Interactions:
    Bathe
Serve food or Provide sippy cups to address hunger need.
    Peek a boo
    Sing/Teach lullabies
Tell bedtime stories (or be able to sit in when parent/other child is doing so with the toddler)
    Play dress up
Play together with and without toys
    Aww interaction
    Family kiss
    Splash
Read books or sing lullabies to sleep
    Rock to sleep
Put the toddler's ear to phone when on a call to allow to listen to voice
    Potty train
    Take/Teach to Swim
    Patty Cakes
    Shh interaction
    Dance with/Teach to dance
    Help brush teeth
    Sheet fort/tents
Making toddler toys on the work bench.
    Mimicking older siblings
    Daydream/stargaze with
    Give piggy back ride
    Play pretend
    Tickle
    Watch TV together
    'Helicopter' rides
    Cuddle
    Clean face/nose
Hold while sitting down like in sims 3

Ideas for moodlets in regards to toddlers for siblings

'In the way' aggravated because the toddler is demanding too much attention.
'Sibling to play with' happy to have a new sibling who they can play with.

    Supernatural requests-
Special interactions for toddler supernaturals based on the type of supernatural they are. Cute seeing the tots learn their new 'skills' or 'powers'.
    There should be mermaids.

    Emotions-

Fine, Angry, Happy, Sad, Scared, Cranky, Lonely (from no interaction for a while or because they miss their mommy.)

Perhaps starting with basic emotional states then gaining new ones as they learn key skills and start to access more complex emotional states?

Could affect success of what toddlers try to do-example given if parents allow them to use toys etc that make them energised they will struggle to sleep? Attentive Parents encouraging using appropriate toys before bed.

    Read to sleep/tell bedtime story?

Perhaps some toddlers have moodlets based on their surroundings affecting their emotions?
    Some suggestions
    Hates strangers
    Family love
One based on mixing with extended family
    Grandparent moodlets

A proud emotion would be really good for acknowledging the challenge and rewards for bringing up the toddlers.

    Skills-

A common request is to allow toddlers to skill alone and with help. Independence is a big theme.

Sliding scale of success to display progress in learning? for example seeing wobbly toddler graduates through to a good toddler walk.

    Some suggestions of skills
    Talking skill
    Feeding themselves
    Keeping clean
    Arts and Crafts
    Singing
    Dancing
    Logic
Surroundings skill-becoming aware of surroundings and reacting to them
    Handiness
    Swimming
    Sharing Ability
    Potty
    ABCs
    Music
Bed-being able to graduate to a toddler bed rather than a crib.

    Ideas for how to skill

Story time-being able to learn to read basic toddler books by themselves-start with learning from others

Using tricycles or other toddler fun transport

    Music-singing and instruments

Using something similar to the leapfrog system to learn independently

Ability to use objects to learn independently or with parents/siblings depending on the preferences of the player.

Unlocking progress with skills? Such as when toddlers learn to speak their parents being able to communicate more effectively what they are asking for making parenting less frustrating as they learn.

Perhaps to unlock new ways to play with toys as they learn and also as they grow-so toys being appropriate across different generations.

Often asked is to be able to retain and display any arts/crafts toddlers create!

    Milestones
Ability for the family to share in important milestones-feeling of pride and inclusion for others as well as just parents and toddlers.

    Ideas for milestones-
Various skill completions-especially those which make the toddler more independent such as walking, talking, potty etc.

    Caring for the toddler-
Various options based on type of parenting, cost and what the parents want from it.

Live in nanny-ability to allow a close live in nanny to teach, care and look out for toddlers while parents are busy at any time of the day or night.

Nanny-Good quality nanny to care for, teaching and support parents while they are out of the home.

Babysitter-Perhaps a cheaper, less effective option? Maybe less likely to teach, and slower than the more expensive options?

Pre schools-Ability to send toddler as an option to a preschool with different specialities and to meet other children?

Daycare-People want to be able to run their own daycare business-with enhanced abilities for group tasks while little ones of all generations are learning and playing. Challenge but ability to deal with multiple children/tots etc in one go through tasks and ability to effectively keep them in the daycare area which is appropriate-gates to keep them safely in those areas? Ability to set the locks for different age ranges to allow children to pass but not tots?

    Furniture and CAS-

People want a good mix and provision of CAS features and furniture of different styles to cater to their different tastes in game.

    Ideas for themes-
Princesses, Supernatural (like mermaids and vampires) Dinosaurs, Primary and Pastel colours, Animals, Robots, and a slightly more 'grown up' fashion toddler section for the little ones.

In CAS people want a lot of options for different hair styles and colours so the options don't get stale and they can have traditional or more fashionable looks for their little tots.

Ideas for interactions-including general, with others, mischief and others! On page 41 here

Interactions-(some will bleed into other categories)

    General
    Toss in Air
    Crawl up
    Poke for attention
    Teething and related interactions
Fussy-fussing about things they don't fancy doing for whatever reason
    Drooling
Explore-this is a wide idea but including 'dirty' situations like climbing in or knocking over bins etc, exploring their environment, using their various senses too!
Singing-learning lullabies, singing along to music
    Clapping-along to music etc
Share-this is a really popular concept for tots to learn
    'Up, up' gesture
    Burp
    Pamper
    Wake Parents
    Cuddle

    Relationship with others
Watch others-suggestions include allowing tots to watch parents cook etc
Cuddle- suggestions on legs, on the lap, on the couch and with the ability to have cuddles from other tots all the way through the ages
    Peek a boo
    Family Kisses
    Rock

    With objects etc
Swim-from aided in beginning learning to swim unaided
Play in toilet-other suggestions 'wash' toys or objects in toilet, block toilet with objects
    Splash puddles
    Solve-for puzzles etc-aided and unaided.
    Watch/react to TV
    Escape from crib
Put themselves to bed in toddler bed
    Reading
    Play with TV remote
    Play with parents phone
    Blow bubbles

    Playing interactions
    Tea Party
    Play in mud
    Hide 'n' Seek
    Play pretend

    Mischief
Temper tantrum-a lot of players are requesting this is also able to be player controlled should they wish it.
    Time out-consequences to misbehaving!
Chew on (getting hold of things and chewing on them like real life tots!)
    Grab hair
    Grab jewelry
    Climb into-various areas-in cupboards etc

    Misc.
Vomiting-perhaps being played with in unsuitable ways straight after eating, illness or random occurance.

For other ages to do with toddlers-

Ability to pass toddler to another without putting down first
Ability for others to talk to or coo over toddler while in another sims arms
'Ask what's wrong' perhaps unlocked as the talking skill is learnt to make caring for tots easier
Ability to bathe toddler in sink/bath/dedicated toddler baths

Ideas for content-On page 48 here

    Content
There has been so many fantastic ideas for content to go alongside toddlers so I will try to sort them into different categories. There are wonderful pictures posted throughout the thread so please make sure to click through and see visual clues too! Many of the content will overlap categories but I will do my best to get some order!

    General

Nap blanket-a blanket for laying on the floor so the tots can nap there

Toddler gate-to keep the tots from getting out alone

    Toddler carry harness-for walking etc

    Sippy Cups

    Night light/star projectors

Pack 'n' play for while out of the house-toy, sleeping mat and food

    Diaper bag

Toddler beds-little beds the toddler can use independently of care givers-a step up from cribs idea for Multi baby/toddler crib/ bed

Cribs-plenty of choices of traditional, modern and character based

Strollers-to take the toddlers out. Perhaps with a carry bag for taking care of tots while out of the house-maybe a sleep mat and a little toy etc

Sand box-hopefully available for use for all ages

Kiddy pool-little paddle pool for kids and tots to play in safely

High Chairs-self explanatory but some great ideas for ones which 'snap' to the table so caregiver can feed them from the table as they eat.

So not saying that this is actually going to happen, but I normally don't get a random dream like this. Okay so I wasn't even thinking about the sims all day before I had this dream or even thinking we'd get toddlers any time soon, but I had an amazing dream that there was a little toddler playing with their toys. And I was confused for a moment that it was a baby unattached from their crib, but it was sitting up on it's own so it didn't really make sense. I remember having dreams like this in the past of future content that have actually came out shortly after. It at least gives me hope that we'll being getting toddlers. Just remember that I'm not saying this is an indicator for anything, just a speculation. :)

If toddlers were added, I would preorder the first day. And buy all other expansion packs too.

I'm not sure if this has been touched on, but I always disliked how long it took toddlers to learn how to walk and talk and potty. I think it be really nice if they shortened the length it took to learn those things, and maybe even have an unlocking system for the learning. In order to be potty trained, the toddler most know how to walk and talk. Anyway, I think lowering the amount of time it takes to complete those toddler tasks should balance out the unlocking system.

I hope EA adds toddlers soon! :)

I love the jogging while pushing the stroller idea mentioned in a few posts above, as well as the toddler aging affect. When toddlers come, I hope it'll be just like I dreamed they'd be!

There's a wonderful community of family play simmers on tumblr which I'm not a member of but have no issue with peeking in on every once in awhile. They also tag their posts with 'simumblr' which I find rather sweet and apt. When I hear the gurus and devs talk about not knowing what to contribute so far as family play goes, it's always baffling to me as there are so many active corners of the web that are doing remarkable things that they could easily look to for suggestions and guidance.

I really hope this isn't the case, but with the way EA Sims PR is I wouldn't put it past them to filter out some of the things the sims community talks about or asks for. It is mind boggling how they are quick to say that "We don't know" or "We haven't gotten much feedback" or other dismissing comments on why they are soooo slow at putting out the content that we, the players/customers (You know, the ones who line EA's pockets with our hard earn cash), want to see. But when questioned on it they are quick to put the blame on us. I really want toddlers, they would help take up some game time. I barely have babbies in my game because of the shift from baby to child is sooo disorienting. If I want my sims to have multiple kids, I have to time it right so that it can at least look like one is younger than the other. With toddlers to take up time, I can have more kids and build on the family dynamic. I dont know about everyone else, but it is kind of weird to have the baby, who is totally dependent on the parents and behaves more like an object, to all of a sudden be able to cook. I honestly would not put it past EA to hold off on adding toddlers until the end of the sims 4 once they know that they can make a huge chuck of cash from us. The Sims crew doesn't have to include toddlers in the cas if it would save time and money. I am perfectly fine with having my sims have a baby and the baby turns into a toddler then the toddler turn into a child. I am completely fine with that. If the team is working on implementing toddlers into the game and it is just taking a long time (They do have to create a whole new life stage that will affect the main game system that works and that is robust so they don't have to create too many patches for them) they should just say so! If they are in the works and the Sims team says so then we, the community, will be appeased and we will know that they "Hear us and are listening". If the sims PR reads any of these comments then why are we seeing so little change in the game? It is disappointing to see the Sims 4, with all of its new features, engine, and potential, lack all the key elements that made the Sims 1,2, and 3 worth paying and playing for.

Well, if vampires really are the next game pack, we will have to wait for toddlers even longer. I was hoping for toddlers as the next GP (basic functions patched in). I´m not into supernaturals at all - but I know that there are a lot of people who have been longing for more supernaturals so TS4 might just turn out not to deliver the content I love the most. :(

I´m not into supernaturals at all - but I know that there are a lot of people who have been longing for more supernaturals so TS4 might just turn out not to deliver the content I love the most. :(

Yeah, but wouldn't it be contra productive to first add more occults and Toddlers after? I mean, if vampires can have babies, and we get toddlers later, this means they have to create vampire toddlers, like they have to create alien toddlers right now.

Most logical thing would be to first add toddlers before adding different occults, so they don't have to create occult toddlers later..

But logic isn't the strongest with TS4 anyway, so we will have to wait and see.

@83bienchen @rudy8292 I think the biggest problem with having toddlers as a GP, is that many players would view paying for something that in their opinion should be in the base game, as a slap in the face. The forums would descend into chaos. Gurus would be harassed all over social media.

It's much safer to include toddlers as free content, but that means a reduced budget, and probably an increased development time, as focusing all that time and money on something free just doesn't bring in the simoleons the way a SP or GP does.

We'll get toddlers eventually, but I'll be very surprised if we have to pay for them.
