Is All of This Land My Sim's?

I finally got my game downloaded. Having a map ahead of time, I chose the empty 50 X 40 to place my first build, for my Sevier family. There is a great deal of empty land surrounding the lot. Is all of this land my Sim's to plant and/or build on? Just asking because the grid only went so far. I'm marveling at this EP so far. I've only been playing/building and getting my Sims settled in for a little under two hours. But wow. I love the sounds of the animals on the farm. Color me excited, but I'm very content at the moment. Great job, EA. THANK YOU.

That's what I was thinking, too. I do hope our Sims can run on it, if they need to chase a chicken or other such runaway animal. LOL Thank you so much for the response!
