Sudden, Sporadic Crashes

The title says it all. TS3 crashes out of seemingly nowhere, in the sense that the game closes without warning. I've tried everything I can, but I recently found the crash logs. I don't know what they indicate, so some help would be appreciated!
Not much, I'm afraid. The crash logs are generally useless, this one particularly so. All it tells us is that the game crashed (no, really?) and that your computer and the game weren't really out of usable resources at the time that it happened. Which means the best we can really provide is a whole bunch of questions, at least one of which we hope might lead to a solution. I take it that this is something new and the game ran better than this before, yes?

Your game appears to be installed on your E drive. Is this an internal drive and do you have plenty of free space available for it to work with there (and how much)?

What have you got for a graphics card and, if it's a new(er) more powerful one, is its frame rate capped? TS3 has no built-in fps limiter.

Have you added any content to the game recently? Do you use mods and have you added any lately? Note that while mods can be the cause of sudden crashes, some of them work very hard to make and keep the game more stable such as NRaas (Overwatch, ErrorTrap, Register, Traffic among others) and AwesomeMod, our "friendly" competitors.

Do you routinely clear (delete) the five cache files on the top level of the TS3 user game folder in Documents before starting the game?

Do the crashes happen on only one ongoing game save (which world are you playing and for how long) or on any game? What if you start a new one for testing in a gentle to play world such as Sunset Valley, Riverview, or Twinbrook?

Have you tried a factory reset, also known as the Clean Folder Test? That means pull your entire TS3 user game folder out of Documents and let the game spawn a new one on its next startup. All of your added store and custom content, installed worlds, mods, saved sims, and game saves will be gone, but they will still be safe in the pulled out folder. How does a new game run on the new no-content game folder?

A Thomas tip make sure that you optimised your Hard disk and patched up your Virus and Malware as this sometimes may ^%%^%^ up or affects load time. I really Love the Sims 4 Simulator and look at forward at sharing my designs.

    Hey there!

I'm sorry to hear that The Sims 3 isn't working properly for you. This is a common issue for The Sims 3 and I hope I can help. The Sims 3 is known to crash, lag, etc. for many players. But, I do think I have a solution for you. If you use Origin for The Sims 3, right click the game and press "Repair." If that doesn't work, I suggest cleaning out cache files in The Sims 3 folder. If you use mods, make sure none of them are conflicting with each other, all are updated to the most recent The Sims 3 patch, and check to see if the mods you are using is known to crash the game.

I hope this helps you. I am not a master when it comes to The Sims 3 crashing, but I do hope that I could help a little bit. I suggest saving your game periodically and/or frequently when playing. Have a great day!

I'm having a similar issue. I'm playing with mods and CC from TSR, and just recently my game has started crashing out of no where. I try to make a second everyday outfit for my sims and when I do that, that seems to trigger the shut downs--no warnings or anything. The game just shuts down and goes to my desk top. I don't know what else could be causing it; changing the outfits are the only things in common that I can think of, that would be causing it. I spent A LOT of time on a previous game and thought I fixed the problem by deleting that game and starting all over. Any tips? I really don't want to start over again...

@MJG98 This could be caused by bad custom content, possibly certain mod issues, or even your hardware. But the easiest step is to delete the five caches in your TS3 game folder. (They accumulate old data and can and should be cleared regularly.) For reference, they are:
    • CASPartCache.package
    • compositorCache.package
    • scriptCache.package
    • simCompositorCache.package
    • socialCache.package

If that alone doesn't help, it's necessary to start narrowing down the source of the issue. Start a brand-new save in a well-made EA world like Sunset Valley or Riverview, and play with your sims' outfits a bit. Do you still get crashes? If not, then your existing game is the problem.

If you get crashes in a new save, try starting another new save, this time in a new game folder. Pull your existing TS3 folder out of Documents and onto your desktop, and a clean folder will spawn when you launch the game. (None of your existing content will show up—it'll still be in your old game folder.) If you don't get any crashes in the clean folder, you can start moving your saves and other content into it from your old folder. Test each batch of files you move to make sure the crashing doesn't happen again; if it does, you'll need to test the files you just moved individually to find the source of your issue.
