Update and sign-in email

I signed in on my Origin account to get the latest patches and updates. It showed that it worked, but when I started up the game, none of the new stuff showed up. The email I use to log in Origin isn't really my active email account. Is there a way to change the sign in account without having to make a whole new Sims account or am I doomed to never see ghosts or, more importantly, awesome Star Wars gear?

You can contact EA to combine multiple Origin accounts if that's what you mean. I'm not sure what it affects and doesn't, though. I'm sure they can work that out with you. Either way, you can't play the game without being logged into the account it's bound to.
On the note of it not working, try repairing your game (right clicking in Origin) and/or clearing your Origin cache:
