You weren't sure where to look. The couple in front of you seemed to have forgotten you were there. Sitting in front of you on the opposite couch were The Meronas, Carlos and Betty. Newlyweds, of course. They were entwined around each other now, Betty in Carlos' lap.
It started with some simple affectionate patting as they started to explain how they had decided to have a modest wedding and set that money aside to have a honeymoon retreat built. "Somewhere on the beach," Betty had said as Carlos rubbed her knee.
After informing you that they wanted a secluded romantic tropical hideaway and how they only had a budget of 30,000 simoleans, you looked down to jot down some notes. By the time you had looked back up, Betty was in Carlos' lap and they were in full "make out" mode.
You tried clearing your throat softly at first, but they continued. After a few more moments, you decided to just get up and leave them alone for a bit.
Some notes:
Make sure to pick a scenic spot. Lot size doesn't matter, but think cozy, tropical, and romantic amenities. Keep in mind the budget.
Optional Challenge:
Create Carlos and Betty Merona as sims and take pictures of them on their honeymoon!

Did you ever play Mad Libs as a kid? I know they were quite popular when I was growing up, and I've had the idea to write a challenge like this for awhile. I hope you'll like it.
If you have never played Mad Libs before, here's how it works. You'll be asked to fill in at random some words. For example, an adjective. You just say whatever adjective comes to mind first. You'll do this for a bunch of questions. Then, after you've filled it all out, you get to see a story. The story has blanks in it. And in those blanks are your answers. Sometimes they are quite silly. Below is an example just using a sentence or two.
The questions:
1. Girl's name
2. Color
3. Adjective to describe personality
4. Number
5. Noun
The story:
One day, 1. will live in a 2., 3. house and have 4. 5.
The story with my answers:
One day, Renee will live in a green, silly house and have 100 bananas.
Kind of silly, but I think this could be quite fun...
So here is your "homework" for tonight. Please copy the "My Sim Libs Form" that is below into a new post and fill it out. Paste it into your reply on this forum. Soon, I will post the "story" for this week.
My Sim Libs Form:
1. A number 2-7
2. A word that can be used to describe someone's personality
3. Last name
4. A number 20-100
5. A number 2-7
6. An adjective
7. A number 20-100
8. A number 20-100
9. A number 2-7
10. A number 2-7
11. A number 5-20
12. A color
13. An adjective
14. A color
15. A room of the house
16. A number 2-7
17. A color
18. Your favorite inexpensive Sims item
19. A number 20-100
20. An adjective
21. An action verb
22. An adjective to describe personality
23. An adjective

Please go to this week's official thread for more details.
It is that time again! Time to let your style truly shine and compete in the Summer Designer Showdown!
We saw some amazing results and even some featured lots with the past showdowns, so lets heat things up even more this time and dazzle the masses with your designer magic. You have 2 full weeks this time!
But, wait, there is a twist!
On the property itself, you will find these 4 items.
You will choose ONE of these items to use as your inspiration to decorate and furnish your house. In the end, when the judges look at your media, they should know which item you chose just by looking at the way you decorated and furnished. Please also include the object you chose somewhere in your house and be sure to have it in a screenshot. You can delete the objects you didn't choose as your inspiration. You also cannot duplicate the item you do use as your inspiration.
This is the house!
Download from the Exchange
Rules and details:
* You cannot change the foundation, walls, and roofing
* Yes, all walls, foundation, and roof must remain the same
* You can replace doors, windows, stairs, and the fireplace, but they have to remain in the same position (meaning if it's a 2 tile window, you have to replace it with a 2 tile window or 2 single tile windows, etc.)
* You can designate the rooms however you like, but your outcome should be a 4 bedroom house with 2.5 bathrooms and a laundry room
* You can't change the roof shape, but you can change the texture and color
* You can add structural elements for landscaping purposes, such as a greenhouse, gazebo, or a carport (no garages), but they cannot be attached to the main house
* You can change, add or delete any fencing
* This must be on a 30x30 lot
* THERE IS NO BUDGET!
* The theme is completely up to you. It does not have to be Summer themed, but your house should reflect your inspirational object
* You do not need any expansion packs to compete. The house was built with only base game elements
* CC is allowed, but please list/link/credit them when you submit so downloaders can find them!
Ready... Set... GO!

You’re sitting at your desk when the phone rings. The girl on the other end begins right away.
“Hi, there. I’m Roxanne Katy and I have a design headache on my hands. My best friend and I would really like to move in together, but we are pretty much opposites when it comes to style. I mean, every time I visit his apartment, I feel like I’m going to step in a cow patty or something. He thinks my sleek place isn’t “warm” enough. We both love music and eating organic, but I’m afraid that my rocker style and his country roots are just not compatible when it comes to creating a place that’s right for both of us. Neither of us wants the other to give up his/her style, but we just don’t know how to make it work. We want at least two bedrooms, and the place doesn’t have to be large. We have 30,000 to spend. My favorite color is sky blue topaz and his is brown, so we’d like to see those used. Also, we want the whole house to look like it goes together, so even though our bedrooms are our own areas, we don’t want them to be too much of shock as visitors move from the common areas to our separate spaces.”
“I think I can come up with something. Anything else I need to know?” you reply.
“No, I think that’s it. You know a little about our styles, favorite colors, and some of our interests. I’ll leave the rest to you.”
“I’ll have it for you no later than two weeks from today!” you try to sound a bit more confident than you feel.
“Wonderful! We look forward to see how you bring it all together.” She hangs up the phone, and you begin contemplating how to manage a rocker-country mix.
In anticipation for the Sims International Films Festival and the Late Night expansion, I thought this would be a good time to tackle an idea I've had for awhile. It is something a few of us flip team members teamed up together to do for Fidler's Extreme Mansion Challenge. We created a giant movie mansion on a 60x60 lot with over 30 different sets that can be used for storytelling.
We were successful for the most part, but the major problem with our lot was that it was simply TOO BIG! We put so much detail into it, the lot was pretty bulky and took a long time to load for those who didn't run sims on good computers.
For the longest time, I've been meaning to create mini sets on 30x30 lots to make it less cumbersome. Since I've never gotten around to it and since I know you guys can be super creative, I figured I should make this into a challenge to see how you guys do!
Please pick one theme from the list below and build a movie set consisting of the following interiors that aren't easy to find in game: a restaurant or bar, a bookstore, an office, a hospital room, and a classroom. You may add any other rooms you can think of that may be appropriate to the theme, but please keep in mind that you only have a 30x30 lot to work with. For the exteriors, you are free to make it however you want, whether it is keeping with the theme or if you would like it to make it look like a studio building.
If you have any other themes you can think of and would like to try, please post your idea and we'll see if it's doable.
There is no budget.
Lot type does not matter, but you should discreetly make sure the lot is playable enough for sims to satisfy their needs if they were wandering around on free will.
No CC except custom patterns allowed! Since we are building this for the story telling community, we want to make sure it is easily accessible. You can use any items from the base game, expansions, stuff packs, and even store items. But please keep in mind not to use too many store items because once again, we want to make our sets as easy as possible to utilize. This may just be the most challenging part for some of you!
Also please make sure to make it clear either in your lot name or lot description that the lot is meant to be used as a set for storytelling. It makes it easier to find for people who are looking for sets.
So while we’re in the mood for movies, I thought I would issue a challenge I have wanted to try myself for quite some time. It is based on a classic movie I have seen a countless number of times.
And now I hope all of you will try your hand at recreating this classic home and scene from The Wizard of Oz.
For those who are unfamiliar with the movie, or even those who do know it, I have included two You Tube links for inspiration.
The challenge comes in two forms for this week’s contest:
1. To recreate (as nearly as possible from the shots you see in the videos) the home and Munchkinland, where the home lands.
2. And the biggie...To design the home in “black and white,” just like it is in the movie, and Munchkinland in all its Technicolor splendor. As a tip, keep in mind that black and white movies contain muted grays more than harsh black and white hues. Consider material as well. Metals will probably be too reflective a texture, while fabrics might give the softer look you need.
And those are the directions. Make Munchkinland as vast as you like, or more compact if time is short. But be sure to capture the essence of the colorless home in the midst of a vibrantly colored outside world. Please note that photo effects to create the appropriate colors is not allowed. Your build must truly be black and white in-game.
OPTIONAL CHALLENGE:
For those looking for a huge challenge, create two lots:
One lot should be fully black and white and include the entire farmhome in Kansas (eg. with chicken coops, cellar, etc). My suggestion is to build just the home first and save it to the library. Then continue building on the original lot to add the rest of the grounds.
The second lot is the home in Munchkinland. If you saved to the library, you already have the home itself built, now you can just redecorate the outside to reflect her arrival "somewhere over the rainbow."
AS A SIDENOTE:
I have been considering writing a playing challenge based on The Wizard of Oz for awhile now. Down the road, if I decide to do this (I'll need to do some playtesting first), I would like to be able to use one or two of these lots. If you are OK with that, please note it on your official entry form. I will most likely select one build with cc and one lot without cc. Credit will be generously given, and your lot would be linked on the challenge thread and any related media.
I will also be looking for sims for this challenge. If you decide to create some anyway for this challenge, here are the ones I'd like (they can be one household): Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, Glinda (the Good Witch), the Wicked Witch, The Wizard, and Auntie Em.
This challenge is super simple! Just show off your Halloween builds! Halloween is in the air and everyone is showing off their spooky creations. As BnS participants, let's show off our goods too!
You have no restrictions except for a Halloween theme. Halloween theme doesn't have to be a haunted house either. Be imaginative and see what you can come up with!
It can be a new build or it can be something you've built in the past and are super proud of.
I had lots of fun with my Halloween Showcase entry last year.
Optional Challenge:
Create a Halloween story featuring your build!

Optional Challenges entered?: A little short story included.
Constructive Criticism?: Yes please.
Creatures of the Night
Dark outside. Already. Winter is coming soon, and just looking at the shadowed, leafless trees makes you want to pull your sweater a little tight around you as you wait for your final client of the day.
Finally, a knock.
Kind of weird. And a little unnerving, actually. They usually just open the door and come in. But when you look, it seems to be your client.
Going to the door, you notice he looks...a little pale. There is a lot going around this time of year, you think to yourself.
He’s polite when you greet him, though. He introduces himself, nodding his head in recognition rather than taking your offered hand.
Then it’s a little awkward. He seems to be awaiting an invitation to come inside. You take a look at his pale skin again and think you can’t really afford to be sick, but there’s something so convincing about his gaze. You decide to invite him in.
Bill tells you that he and his friend, Eric, are new in town and looking for a large modern home in which to lay down some roots. They have quite a lot to spend, $275K altogether, but the budget matches the build.
Bill explains they want a 3-story, 5BR, 4BA modern home on a medium lot. On the ground floor, they want an indoor pool and party area with a kitchen area off to the side, “mostly to accommodate our guests,” he says.
Elsewhere in the home, they want a “drawing room” (kind of an antiquated term, you think to yourself) with at least an easel, chess, several book cases, and a fire place. This room seems to be the one most suited to Bill’s tastes. Eric also has a special request for a media room with a bar and a private office off of this area.
Before leaving, Bill reiterates he would like a modern home. His request is primarily black and white decor, but the two could not decide on a third color to complement the scheme, so they will leave it up to your “professional judgment,” he says. Outside, they’d like the landscaping fairly minimal. Neither cares much for flowers, and they’re really more “nighttime, indoor-types,” he explains. They both like luxurious surroundings, and they’d like all of the bedrooms to feature double beds, with the two largest ones also including a fire place.
Bill smiles the biggest smile he can without baring his teeth and nods again before walking out.
The room grows instantly warmer.
NOTES:
Medium lot=30x30 or less, for our purposes
Feel free to use Late Night objects, etc. I have made the brief neutral for those who only have the Base Game or won't be able to purchase LN for awhile.
If you buy Late Night, it looks like the vamps have a special type of bed. You can use that in the 2 main bedrooms instead of doubles.
It's been awhile, but it's time for another neighborhood project! This time, we're going to work to finish the AWESOME 'hood conceptualized by Tota. And as she soon leaves for a tour around the world!, I'd love to have this done as a going away present for all her hard work.
Instead of reinventing the wheel, I would ask that you sign up for your lot at Builder's Boulevard. If you are not a member, we hope you will consider joining for this great project. The address is www.buildersboulevard.com . You only need an email address to join. This is a great community of builders, and we don't spam or send any random messages to your email.
If you are a member or plan to join
(Once you've joined) please visit the site and click on "databases" in the bar near the top. The database you want for this project is labeled "Sanshi Suimei Lots." Once in the database, take a look at the list of remaining builds and pick one of interest to you. Then click on "Easy Edit." Please CAREFULLY add your name to the "claimed by" column so we know who is working on the lot and that it has been claimed.
If you do not want to join but would like to participate
Please just visit the site as a guest and click on "databases" in the bar near the top. The database you want for this project is labeled "Sanshi Suimei Lots." Once in the database, take a look at the list of remaining builds and pick one of interest to you. Then you may just post your choice here and I will go in and reserve it for you.
This is a noncompetitive week and will not be judged. It is about community and producing an AWESOME product together.
Once your build is complete, please note that in the Builder's Boulevard database. Next, please post the information for your lot here. You can use the traditional Official Entry form once your lot is complete. Please be sure to include the lot number and address from the database entry. And as always, be sure to share those links!
I know it is almost winter, but we didn't get a chance to squeeze in a Fall Designer Showdown earlier, so here we are!
This time, instead of taking a shell I built, let's take one of those less-than-wonderful existing EA builds and work your designer magic!
You can choose any EA residential build from any expansion. They can be an existing lot already placed or even something from the bin.
Take a few screenshots for some before pictures and make sure to take plenty of after screenshots for judging!
Rules and details:
* You have a total budget of $75k simoleans!
* You cannot change the foundation, exterior walls, and roofing
* Yes, exterior walls, foundation, and roof must remain the same
* You can change the texture and color of the roof
* Feel free to change the interior layout if you need to, so changing interior walls is ok as long as it doesn't effect the exterior walls
* You can add, delete, or change any doors, windows, fencing, staircases, and fireplaces
* You can add structural elements for landscaping purposes, such as a greenhouse, gazebo, or a carport (no garages), but they cannot be attached to the main house
* The theme is completely up to you. It does not have to be Fall themed
* You do not need any expansion packs to compete.
* CC is allowed, but please list/link/credit them when you submit so downloaders can find them!
The smell floods your nose as soon as they walk into your office.
That smell. That glorious smell. How could you have ever forgotten it?
Honey Biscuit's famous honey biscuits!
Before you know it, the biscuits are presented ( a big stack...you work hard to stay focused on the clients, and not those biscuits!), placed on your desk, and you are wrapped in the arms of one Honey Biscuit.
It's a full five minutes before she pauses to stop from complimenting your work on their remodeled bed and breakfast. But finally, they come to the reason they're here: they want to redecorate their beautiful home for the holidays. And they will accept nothing but the work of the best, you!
You pause from chewing long enough to share a goofy smile, showing you're quite pleased with the compliment but have a mouth too full to express the words at just this moment.
"We love our home, as Honey might have mentioned," Abraham laughs as he continues, "so you don't have to knock down any internal walls or anything like last time, unless you want to. We just want the home to be decked in seasonal colors and have a warm feel for the holidays. And we want to spare no expense, so we're adding $25,000 to bring the home's total value to $300,000."
"The patio..." Honey jumps in, "is lovely. But we'd also like to find a way to warm it up a bit in temperature for the colder weather. We would be open to adding walls with large windows to the patio or any other solution you have that would add some warmth."
Finally finishing the biscuit, savoring every crumb that's just a little stuck to your tongue with no drink to wash it down, you reply.
"We can definitely do that. I am so pleased you thought of us. And of course, I can't thank you enough for these delicious biscuits!"
Honey gives you another hug and Abraham shakes your hand before the two walk out, hand-in-hand, into the snow.
FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW THE BISCUITS, WHO WERE THE FAMILY FOR CHALLENGE #7:
You can find the original challenge here: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/1455/21728.page . Your build should meet these requirements as well. Please post any questions here on this week's post to avoid the confusion of posts and answers in two locations.
FOR THOSE WHO WERE A PART OF CHALLENGE #7:
You have it very easy this week, if you want. You can use your original build and just redecorate, or you can reimagine the whole thing if you desire!
Once upon a time... there was a builder who loved to build sim houses. Making sim dreams come true was this builder's specialty. From small starters to luxurious mansions, the builder has done them all.
Word gets around, of course. Even to the tiniest of creatures.
One night, a small gnome appeared into the builder's bedroom while the builder slept. Not wanting to wake the peaceful slumber, the small gnome gently touched the builder's forehead and implanted one thought.
It was time to build something truly magical...
The gnome wanted the builder to build something from the fairy tales told around the world. A lot not too big and not too small. A lot not too shabby and not too grand. A lot not too real and not too surreal.
It was a challenge the builder has never been faced with.
As the builder slept, the builder dreamed... of all the possibilities this challenge may bring.
Will the builder succeed and create this happily ever after?
Rules and details:
Basically, pick a home from a favorite fairy tale. We are not talking about the big castles of princesses who already have their happy ending, but recreating the quaintness of humble beginnings and finding magic and contentment in that.
A few examples are...
* Home of the 7 dwarves from Snow White
* Home of the 3 bears from Goldilocks
* Repunzel's treehouse
You don't have to worry about budget this time around, but just try not to overwhelm yourself with something too big!

To all who have participated in a Build-n-Share challenge this year:
This week, let's take a break. It has been a busy year. And we have been busy building! To celebrate the close of 2010 and the beginning of 2011, share your favorite build from 2010. It can be residential or commercial, small or large. Post the link to the build, a link to media, and if you'd like, **one screenshot** to show off your work. Feel free to comment on others' work, and to rec with reckless abandon. Wishing everyone a happy new year!
Hope everyone had an awesome New Year's! To kick this new year off, I thought we would start with a plan challenge. Here it is!
Please build according to this plan. The point to this challenge is to see how creative you can be with your interpretation of it. The style of the home can be completely up to you as long as the floorplan is laid out like the above.
Please note that you can ignore any closets if you like since it isn't required for sim living, but feel free to keep them in too.
Please also note that this isn't a mansion, so scale is important. Scale your room sizes appropriately and only build on a huge lot if you plan on landscaping the bejeezus out of it.
You can add a detached garage or carport if you like along with any structural landscaping features as long as it is not part of the floorplan.
There is no budget, so have fun!
Remember to take an overhead shot of your floorplan for judging along with all of your other screenshots!
You recognize your client as soon as she waddles in. Wait. Waddles?! Is she...
Yes, she is.
And she wants you to build a new home for her, her husband, and their baby boy on the way!
"We'd love a 3 BR, 2.5 BA home," she tells you. "We're still having a hard time deciding on a nursery theme, so we're hoping you'll make the decision for us! We're debating between a robot nursery with silvery-blue walls and some punches of accent colors in maybe red or orange OR a retro nursery decorated with the toys from when we were younger and painted in primary colors. We're a little worried about too bright of a yellow on the walls, though. I've read some things about it making it hard for the kid to sleep..."
You jot down the two color schemes as she continues.
"We'd also like the rest of the home to be kid-friendly with little spots for convenience for the baby to sleep, eat and play. I like a little bit of a retro feel, and my husband likes modern. But we don't want too much glass because of safety concerns with the baby. And we want it to look homey, so not too modern, I guess. The third bedroom should be a music room for my husband, and I'll need a little office area and bookcase in the master bedroom for school work. Our current kitchen is tiny, so we'd like an area that is open to the dining room, at least. My favorite room in my current house is a screened in porch, so if you could include that, it would be wonderful. Finally, we'd like a fenced in yard for the puppies...and eventually, for baby!"
You can tell she has given this some thought. It is hard to keep up!
"Our budget isn't huge. We were hoping you could create the home for about 65K. I thought about trying to do some of the design myself, but I've been a little lost in pregnancy books, cloth diapering websites, and sewing machine manuals. So much to do and just so little time!"
You laugh. "We'll get it taken care of. At least you can check ONE thing off the list!"
She gives you a big hug before slowly making her way back to the parking lot.
To celebrate the coming holiday, this week's challenge will focus on a Sim couple created by you. The build should be a couple's starter (no more than $18,500 simoleons fully furnished and decorated). For design inspiration, consider the colors and themes of the season. You may pick from the themes below, or create your own Valentine look. After you have created your home, I would love to meet the happy couple and see them begin life in their new home. Perhaps we'll see a romantic story or a comedy about learning to live with one another's little "quirks."
Ideas for possible themes and colors for inspiration:
Color schemes:
Chocolate covered cherries (a personal favorite!)
Sweethearts (the little pastel hearts with sayings)
Traditional red and white
Red, pink, and purple
This week’s challenge is to create two micro homes on two separate 10x10 lots (these can be found in World Editor, which you can find at the bottom left corner of your screen when in your neighborhood). The two lots should look stylistically similar on the outside, but worlds apart on the inside. One should be based on the “lion,” which you could interpret as a cue for colors, style, decor, ‘attitude,’ or more, and the other should be based on the “lamb,” a very different animal...
If you are short on time this week, feel free to create just one of the lots, but be sure to identify which you have chosen. If you have time, creating a set is always a nice way to up your download totals, as if you advertise in the lot description and people like the build, they often “have” to have its mate! As always, judges will evaluate your work based on the pics, so make sure you show off the build/s with your photography!
It's that time of year. Time to dust things off, figure out what to keep, and what it's time to part with.
We've all got them (or at least I know I do!): those half-finished projects waiting for a strike of inspiration, the "photo shoot" to get it ready to advertise on The Exchange, a couple of trees and flowers for the yard. These next two weeks, let Build-n-Share be your motivator and coach. Tackle that big project (or a few). Show off your favorite/s here on the board for recs and feedback. Judging will be based on the whole of your work, whether that be one build or several. If you submit several works, for the media to be used for judging, please limit yourself to 30 shots so the judges don't have to sift through too much to process the work. You may provide a link with additional images if you like for members of our supportive community.
Slap on that fresh coat of paint, rip up the carpet and put down some hard wood, get that house ready for spring and its debut on the Exchange!
The weather's getting warmer and the students are getting restless. It's your job to build the vacation spot of their dreams. You determine the locale; will it be a sunny beach resort, a lakeside lodge, or a world-inspired destination? No matter your chosen theme, please include four rooms with two double beds and two rooms with just one double bed. This way, your destination can be used as a hotel for other simmers who might have larger families to accommodate. Inside, be sure to at least include a pool, game room, cafeteria/restaurant, and a lobby. Don't forget to landscape the outside appropriately as well. Do your best to make the entire property fit the decor and "feel" of your selected theme. Cost is no object, so have at it! For easier gameplay (and easier building and decorating), I would go with a medium-sized lot (read: not 60x60 etc.)
Colors:
Pastels
(Special Note: Please complement with either white or brown.)
Special Requests:
A spacious kitchen for dying eggs
A large backyard for a grand egg hunt
A special room for day-of activities, including the all-important bunny hop
Two guest rooms for making all of his "Peeps" feel welcome
Budget:
Unlimited. Sunset Valley has decided to honor one of its most cherished citizens.
Clients:
(Young adult or adult sim) Elenita Delgado and her (elder sim) mother, Maria
Budget:
75K
Wants:
A one-story home with a southwestern United States feel
A spot for a vegetable garden for Elenita and a separate flower garden for her mother
A large kitchen where Elenita can prepare fresh foods from her garden
Beautiful flowers throughout the home to celebrate Maria's love of blooms
3 bedrooms
Stone floors
Colors:
Vibrant and colorful, to be chosen from colors like red, orange, yellow, lime green, aqua blue, and purple
Happy building!
Addict
In honor of Addict, the challenge this week will be one of the build types she is so famous for – the Starter!
In a rush, you gather up your portfolio and head for the door of your office. It’s 12:15, and you’re supposed to meet with your new client across town in just 15 minutes. Sunset Valley is a small town, but traffic can be fierce during the lunch rush.
“Rose,” you call to your secretary, “if Ms. Foxglove calls, tell her I’m on my way.”
Hopping in the car, you slam the door and speed out of the driveway. “Hmmm,” you think to yourself. “Foxglove…isn’t that some kind of a flower? I wonder what this client will be like. They’re all so different. But that’s what makes the job so much fun.”
After making good time, you arrive at the Little Corsican Bistro with a few minutes to spare. You give your name to the hostess, and she escorts you to Ms. Foxglove’s table. Your first impression is that she is very pretty, in a vintage sort of way.
Ms. Foxglove stands and offers her hand in greeting. “Hi, I’m Ginny Foxglove! Well, my real name is Virginia, but everyone just calls me Ginny. It’s so nice to meet you!”
Despite her somewhat conservative look, Ginny is friendly and exuberant. “It’s nice to meet you as well,” you say. You sit down and make small talk with Ginny while looking over the menu. After your orders are placed, you get down to business. “I understand you are looking to build a house."
“Yes,” says Ginny. “I have a little bit saved up. Not a whole lot, mind you. Just enough for a one bedroom , one bath house. That’s all I really need right now as I’m single and concentrating on my career.”
“Well, I’ve worked on all types of houses from the most extravagant to starters like yours,” you explain. I’ve learned over the years how to give even the smallest house a rich and inviting look.”
“That sounds perfect,” says Ginny. “What I’d really love is a country-style house with a cottage garden. I just adore flowers. In fact, I’d be just as happy relaxing outside in the garden as I would inside.”
As you talk with your client, ideas begin to blossom and take shape. English Country, French Country, which direction to take? Following a very productive lunch, you head back to your office with a plan in mind. You are certain that Ginny Foxglove will be thrilled with your final product.
STYLE - Country with cottage garden
BUDGET - 16,500

Wow! It’s the 100th week of Build-n-Share challenges. Time sure flies… In honor of Build-n-Share’s 100th week, we are inviting all past, present, and new members to join in a community neighborhood project! For this very special anniversary, Addict had the idea of creating a community neighborhood filled with our community members and their houses. This challenge will take place in two phases. This week, please choose your lot and create your Simself or TS3 avatar household.
We have an idea for households, but please feel free to offer other suggestions as well: use your TS3 persona as your LAST name and your real 1st name (if you feel comfortable doing so) as your FIRST name. For example, I would be Kathy Kittkat7147. For my household, I would add my husband, Dale Kittkat7147 (it’s just the two of us!). If you don’t feel comfortable making your real family, you can, of course, post a fictitious family. In that case, please still use your TS3 persona somewhere in your name and avoid last names like “Sim” or “Avatar.” If we have too many of those, it would make relationships in the town a little confusing Also, we’d like to have a variety of family ages, types, and sizes to make the neighborhood as functional as possible, so feel free to add to your family if needed.
Next week will be the build week for your houses. You can make a Sim-replica of our real house or shoot for the moon and create the house of your dreams
One last thing, we need a name for this neighborhood we are creating! Any and all suggestions are welcomed. At the end of the week we’ll post a poll and let you, the members of Build-n-Share, decide on the name.
Official "Community" Lot Sign-up Form
Family Surname (last name):
Family members (first names) and ages:
Chosen lot # (1-72):
Chosen lot address:
One afternoon, you are working diligently on the plans for a new restaurant, the King and Pie, which will serve Thai food and French desserts. The intercom buzzes, and Rose, your secretary, says, “The Foster family is here for their 4:30 appointment.”
“Did I know about this appointment?” you ask, puzzled.
“Well, they sounded so desperate, and I just knew you could fit them in!” Rose says sheepishly.
You take a quick glance at yourself in the mirror, comb that lock of hair that always falls in your face, and tell Rose, “Please send them in.”
In walks a handsome family of five. The father is holding a newborn baby in his arms; the mother is shepherding in two other children. One, a girl, looks to be a teenager. The other is a boy of about 8 or 9.
The father begins speaking and you immediately recognize from his accent that he must be from Australia. “Hi, mate! I’m Jack Foster and this is me wife, Jenny, me daughter, Nicole, me son, Hugh, and the li’l one is Russell.”
You soon learn that the family has just been transferred from Perth, Australia. Jack is to begin a corporate job at the Doo Peas Tower.
“So what can I do for you?” you begin.
Jack speaks for the whole family and tells you about their wish for a newly built house rather than moving into an existing one. “Me mum-in-law—Jenny’s mother, Sarah Jones—will be coming to live with us in a few weeks after she tidies up her affairs. We want a granny flat for her, and the estate agent, Cookie Kwan (d’ya know her?) said there weren’t anything like that in Sunset Valley.”
“A granny flat?” you think. But you soon find out after gentle prodding that it is a separate apartment with its own entrance, kitchen, bedroom and living spaces. As you continue the discussion, you find out that Jack loves to barbecue and has always wanted to live at the beach. Jenny is a writer and works from home. Nicole is in high school and plans to be either an architect or a doctor. Hugh likes sports and playing with his Dad and doesn’t like taking baths. And Russell likes to eat and be loved.
You ask Jenny about her mother and find out that she is an avid guitarist. (“She says she wants her own place so that she won’t bother us with her practicing.”) Sarah is retired from being a music teacher, but might find a part-time job if there is an organic grocery in town.
When you ask about interior design, Jenny takes the lead. “I guess we like a contemporary look, but it has to be comfortable. I hate those places you see in magazines that look like no one lives there.”
“Any color scheme in mind?” you ask.
“Purple!” Jenny answers immediately.
“Purple? Just purple? Blue-purple? Red-purple? Lavender? Any of those?” you ask.
“Yes!” she says with a twinkle in her eye. After a pause, she continues, “Just little bits of purple here and there. You know, as an accent color. And we like light woods too. But I trust your taste for the overall scheme!”
“And what sort of budget do we have to work with?” you continue.
Jack takes over. “The corporation is footing the bill for our move here, and what with the sale of our house and all, we have §95,000 to spend.”
“Don’t forget Mum’s §105,000!” Jenny chimes in.
So as it nears 7 pm, you are finally ushering the family out of your studio. Rose (the rat!) has already left for the day. Jack turns to you and says, “You can have this ready for us in two weeks, can’t ya, mate?” Trying to hide the panic in your voice, you reply, “Of course, I can!”
Requirements:
• Budget: §200,000
• Lot should be on or near the beach.
• Main house: 4 bedrooms (one is a nursery), 3.5 bathrooms, office/library with computer for Jenny, garage (for 1 or 2 cars). Interior design: comfortable contemporary; your color scheme should include light colored woods and purple accents.
• Granny flat: can be a separate building on the same lot as the main house, a building attached to the main house, or a separate floor of the main house. The Granny flat should have a separate entrance, its own kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living spaces. Architecture and interior design should be related to the main house but need not be the same. Be sure to provide a guitar and bicycle for Sarah Jones.
• Outdoor areas: a grilling space for Jack, a vegetable garden for Sarah Jones, and a yard for Hugh to play in.
Optional Challenge: Create the Foster family and provide pictures of the family living in their new home.
Note: You do not have to have the Generations Expansion Pack to enter this challenge.
Hanging up the phone with Jack Foster, you breathe a sigh of relief. The Foster family just loves the house you designed for them. Only pausing a moment to enjoy your success, you buzz Rose and ask her to come in the office.
“Hi, boss!” she says brightly as she breezes into the office. She plops down in a chair and drops a folder on your desk.
“What’s this?” you ask.
“It’s our new client,” she chirps. I had him fill out some paperwork while you were on the phone.”
“My, but you are efficient,” you laugh. Send him in please.” As you chuckle to yourself, Rose sashays off to find the client. You rise and shake hands with a most unusual man. He seems to be wearing knickers. How odd…
“Good afternoon!” he booms. I’m Ben, and I have a bit of an unusual request for you.”
“Well, that’s what keeps things interesting around here,” you think to yourself. We specialize in unusual requests,” you reply reassuringly. “Why, one time we had a client who wanted an elevated house with no outside doors. Now, that was unusual!” You both share a laugh as you describe the job commissioned by Colonel Fearful.
“Just tell me what you need,” you say, and Ben begins to share his story.
“I’m a pretty patriotic guy,” he says. “And it’s been my life-long dream to own a little restaurant. Well, more of a diner, really. Nothing too fancy, just a little place where I can serve up some of my favorite dishes. I even have a name picked out – The 1776 Diner.”
“Sounds interesting! Do you have any ideas for the décor?”
“Oh yes,” Ben assures you. I want it to be decorated in my favorite colors – red, white, and blue.”
“Well, that’s certainly do-able. Any preferences on the style? ” you ask.
“I’m open on that front,” Ben tells you. I’ve thought about a typical 50’s diner or even a more historical theme to go with the 1776 name. I’ll leave those kinds of decisions up to you though – you’re the expert, after all.”
After a few more preliminaries, you have a good idea of what your client is asking for. As you show Ben out, your mind begins to consider the possibilities. “Hmmm,” you think to yourself, “I wonder why he looks so familiar…”
Requirements:
•Community Lot
•Include food cash registers (from buydebug) so that sims can actually eat at your diner
•Build at 64 Westlake Drive in Twinbrook
•Color scheme should be red, white, and blue (see optional challenge)
•The building style is up to you
•Include a patio with outside dining
•Don’t forget to provide parking
•CC is allowed
Optional Challenges
1. If you are not from the U.S., feel free to change the color scheme to reflect the colors of your homeland.
2. Download Ben Franklin and capture a picture of him in the diner. The best picture as decided by community vote will be featured at Builders’ Boulevard.

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/236753.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Love Shack

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/240452.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
4. Number
5. Noun
My answers:
1. Girl's name--Renee
2. Color--Green
3. Adjective--silly
4. Number--100
5. Noun--Bananas
The story:
One day, 1. will live in a 2., 3. house and have 4. 5.
The story with my answers:
One day, Renee will live in a green, silly house and have 100 bananas.
Kind of silly, but I think this could be quite fun...
So here is your "homework" for tonight. Please copy the "My Sim Libs Form" that is below into a new post and fill it out. Paste it into your reply on this forum. Soon, I will post the "story" for this week.
My Sim Libs Form:
1. A number 2-7
2. A word that can be used to describe someone's personality
3. Last name
4. A number 20-100
5. A number 2-7
6. An adjective
7. A number 20-100
8. A number 20-100
9. A number 2-7
10. A number 2-7
11. A number 5-20
12. A color
13. An adjective
14. A color
15. A room of the house
16. A number 2-7
17. A color
18. Your favorite inexpensive Sims item
19. A number 20-100
20. An adjective

http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/248029.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Summer Designer Showdown!
Calling all designers!
* THERE IS NO BUDGET!
* The theme is completely up to you. It does not have to be Summer themed, but your house should reflect your inspirational object
* You do not need any expansion packs to compete. The house was built with only base game elements
* CC is allowed, but please list/link/credit them when you submit so downloaders can find them!
Ready... Set... GO!

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/254470.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/260263.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Sets, Take One! Action!
If you would like to see what we did, you can check out the thread here: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/116958.page
Here are the themes for you to choose from:
- Haunted/Abandoned
- 60s and 70s Retro
- Futuristic/Sci-Fi
- Victorian
Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
ACTION!

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/265588.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
A video of the farmhome:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhPu5AHDMHM
A video of Munchkinland:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotat...35323&feature=iv&v=EPWenQxryr4

This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Halloween Showcase!

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/278767.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:

Thread for this week’s challenge. If you want to participate, check the available lots at:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/290480.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:

This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Fall Designer Showdown
Ready... Set... GO!

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/306271.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
You can find the Biscuits here:
http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=613371
P.S.--They might want a little makeover for the holidays.

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/313510.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Happily Ever After
Once upon a time... there was a builder who loved to build sim houses.
* Repunzel's treehouse

Wishing everyone a happy new year!

http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/328112.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
The Perfect Plan

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/334027.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
It's a boy!
She gives you a big hug before slowly making her way back to the parking lot.

http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/2850/21728.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Happy Valentine's Day!
Themes:
Roses
Hearts
Flowers
Cupid

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/2925/21728.page#4748572
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
The Lion and the Lamb

Spring Cleaning, Part 1
Looking forward to seeing everyone's work.

Spring Break 2011!
Happy building!

The Foxglove Starter

Build-n-Share 100 - COMMUNITY!

Build-n-Share #102-103 Generations!

Build-n-Share #104-105: The 1776 Diner
