Hiring a Private Investigator

I've heard of people hiring Private Investigators to 'solve' some of their sims' 'problems'. I didn't know if this was possible or if it was just used for story progression reasons in Sim Stories and such. If you can do this, how?

i haven't heard of that the only way you can get a PI is to become one

I don't think so, the cases are canned and the game sets up the people.

Your active family can't hire a Private Investigator. However, if a Sim in your active family is a Private Investigator, other Sims will hire them.
