  • Thanks. Will probably do that soon; I'm planning to do a system reinstall using a SSD I picked up recently, so I'll probably do my messing with things at that time (not only the mods, but also the registry tinkering needed to install CAW when you have the Steam version of TS3). I did try a few more things. The most recent…
  • I wouldn't say I'm dedicated to no mods. I've been leery of them, but that's probably more a consequence of playing a lot of Minecraft, which is still getting updated and for a while was getting updated a lot more. I was leery because your mods could fail after an update, and if your game was dependent on them for some…
  • For the last while it's been this for me: Baby: 3 Toddler: 7 Child: 10 Teen: 14 YA: 42 Adult: 42 Elder: 17 I may change this in the future. But as far as my own sims go, they've usually gotten their hands on either life fruit or the Young Again potion (possibly with an Age Freeze chaser) while still young adults.
  • Something similar happened to me the other day (without mods or anything like that). The skill tab never filled, it just showed whatever tab I'd been on previously. The problem went away the next time I signed in, though.
  • Another thing I learned today - you can type "resetsim * " to reset all the sims in your town. I learned this while googling what to do about a save of mine that had slowed down to the point of being almost unplayable. It worked!
  • I just learned that if you have a firefighter sim, and your stove catches fire, there's a good chance that the firefighter will be able to put it out before it destroys the stove.
  • I've got a soft spot for Shasha Parks from UL. Childish, quirky, seems like she'd be a blast to know IRL.
  • Something I didn't know till now, though I expected it - if you invite a tattoo artist to move into your household, they become unemployed. I would assume the same happens with consignment store staff, etc. I have yet to try to see if it happens with firefighters (it would make sense for that to be the exception to the…
  • Clogged toilets, busted showers and sinks, and burning stoves seem to happen more frequently at university than in the primary town.
  • Sims with the Neurotic trait seem to run everywhere, even when there's no reason they should be in a hurry.
  • Right now I'm playing a family of my own creation, the Morphy family - dad Boyd, mum Leola, son David, and daughter Caroline. The astute reader might note the resemblance to the Staunton family in Robertson Davies' Deptford trilogy, though they've diverged a lot from the family in the books (fortunately). Boyd has the…
  • When sims get to level 3 of the Piano skill, they learn several familiar traditional tunes, including "I've Been Working On The Railroad" (odd given the absence of railways in the game), "Rock-A-Bye-Baby", "Oh Susanna", and "Three Blind Mice". Also there's a tune which I presume was composed for the game but which sounds…
  • Kinda trivial compared to some of these discoveries, but I just installed Showtime recently so I didn't know till now that sims with the Natural Born Performer trait will "shower with flair".
  • Might try this sometime. I see, though, that my go-to tactic for most sims - a Manhattan Project-like push to cultivate life fruit - is not allowed here.
  • Dang. Just bought Town Life on the weekend. Guess I'll go for Showtime and maybe another stuff pack or two, though.,
  • I just learned that sims can order food from the bar (in the Late Night type of bars, at least), usually something like nachos or onion rings, and it always seems to be bad quality.
  • I believe that if both sims are in the active household, whichever sim proposed marriage to the other will keep their name and the other will change it.
  • I'd say Ambitions and UL are my favourites, though I'm coming to appreciate Generations more as well.
  • Just for clarification, are mods required to do that? I had thought they were. I suppose I should get over my aversion to mods. Unlike, say, Minecraft, TS3 isn't being updated regularly so I assume there's less risk of being locked out of a save because the mods don't work anymore.
  • There are some delightfully quirky characters there. Shasha Parks and Margaret Cade come to mind. Also Sarah Parker, though she has the Evil trait.
  • Yeah, I've used roommates before. I'm just wondering if the residence lot type can be used in the primary town, though; it seems like the kind of lot type that most closely matches a rooming house. Not necessary for my primary household either.
  • Yeah, this happens occasionally and resetting the sim has always worked for me so far.
  • Yeah, I usually don't play rotationally either. Just did it here because most of the town was populated with sims I'd created, so I wanted to give as many households a half decent start as possible.
  • My current family is a CAS family, the Fischer family, loosely based on a real family I knew (different surname though). The world I've put them in is this excellent port of Pleasantview from TS2 (can't comment on how faithful it is to the original, since I never played TS2, but it's a beautifully designed world from a…
  • Dunno if I'd say I can't live without it, but of late I've become impressed with Cindy and Caleb's port of Pleasantview into TS3. This might seem an odd choice, given that I never played TS2, but I like the layout of the town. It's easy to get around in thanks to being nice and compact with grid streets. And there's plenty…
  • One caveat about Ambitions that I forgot to mention in this thread - the professions are cool, but they require a lot more micromanagement than the rabbit hole careers. So if you're running a large household, it can get tricky to ensure they're doing as well in their respective professions as possible.
  • Ambitions and UL are my two favourites of the ones I have. UL I like for the great premades, the plantsims, and the Science skill, as well as the ability to boost your skills while not aging and to start careers at a higher level. Ambitions is great for the town as well as the careers. I started with UL as my first EP but…
  • I think I'll just do this for the time being. I might go for a mod but I'll have to see. I could also get Supernatural, though it seems to kind of defeat the purpose to have it installed but disable all the new types it introduces. Will certainly look into that.
  • Update: unfortunately when I shift click the mailbox with TCE true, I don't see anything about that. Most of the stuff that is there is stuff related to whichever sim in my household is selected at the time, unless it's buried somewhere in the "force sim" menu and I overlooked it. I guess I'd probably need Supernatural to…
  • Just finished another session, and there was indeed a checkbox for vampires. I turned it off, but as you predicted, the existing vampires are still there. No great loss, though I'll consider looking into that cheat before they start proliferating further. Thanks for the tip. I don't think I'd turn off story progression,…
