Finally got a chance to play again. Still a little glitchy, but I was able to save my sims by copying the household and dropping them into a new game in a town I've never played before. Origin's repair feature seems to have fixed the issues I had with unrelated households, but these guys are perhaps a bit too corrupted for their own good.
Favourite visual: toddler fell through the potty chair while training, and dad's arm bent backward while he tried to pick the child up. Suddenly: disfigured, floating toddler-monster and dad kicking up a fuss because the child he should be carrying is in the way of him sitting down that same, exact child which he thinks he's holding. Resetsim on the pair of them fixed it right up, at least.
