Love Day In the Spring?

I noticed that too, but if I want to bother with it, I can set love day (and even call it Valentines day) anywhere I want in the calendar.

Valentines day tends to be overrated to me anyway irl, despite being an inveterate romantic given the chance.

Obligatory romance is a self-contradiction and I always wonder: is it better to just agree that Valentines day is a bananas contrived holiday for getting yo eat candy in school and put pressure on people to buy flowers, cheap chocolate and so on? Or is it best to try to do something genuinely impressive as a show and declaration of love, lest my SO feel let down if I don't?

I am so on board with your thinking. I much prefer for romantic gestures to be spontaneous IE real, over the contrived have to get my partner this, that, or the other thing. I used to get vexed any time a good friend of mine would ask me what my husband gave me for Valentine's Day. We were on a shoe-string budget having three kids and I didn't work outside of the home. I have no need for jewelry, other than a cross and my wedding rings. Normally, we would just have a quiet dinner at home. Feed the kids early and then send them off to watch TV or something. Often, we would set up the card table in our bedroom and eat our 'intimate' dinner there. I could remove the 'holiday' beforehand, but I like giving the parent Sims a reason to get out of the house.

I lived in Southern California for 20 years and when I lived there I considered there to be two seasons "Summer," which lasted for about 11 months, and "Rain," which covered the other month.

I lived there for over 50 years. Born and raised there. They try to tell us it never rains in California, but that it Pours. It just isn't spread out the way it needs to be to stave off a drought. Then, of course, when the rains do hit, we would get mudslides. And then there's the infamous Fire Season. One time while I lived there, there were 13 different fires going on at the same time. Our daughter was trying to fly back home from Kansas and had to land in Arizona. Hubby and I had to quickly change our plans to pick her up. On the trip back (which was a turn-around) I saw the mountains that were on fire, as we drove passed. I wanted to cry. I had brand new furniture in my livingroom and there was a thin layer of ash all over it. Yet, we were not in the evacuation area. Pretty scary.

Oddly, I hear June 21st called the first day of Summer and Midsummer's Day.

As I understand it, the solstices and equinoxes are the start of the meteorological seasons, but almost everybody really brackets their seasons from months' starts - though it turns out we disagree about which months.

I read an article about that very thing. I also get annoyed when the people on the news tout Memorial Day (in my country) as the beginning of the summer season. No, that's at the end of May. As for the confusion over the start of summer and when is Midsummer, I don't know. We don't celebrate Midsummer in my country of birth. I only looked it up once, because my 7th great-grandmother, born over here, is said to have been of Scandinavian heritage. Blue eyes do run in the family …

Midsummer is the Summer Solstice, which you've called the first day of Summer.

Your view is a modern view of it, but in the olden days it was considered the middle of the summer season. It marks the day when the sun is at it's highest point, after all, and after that day passes the days starts getting shorter, so thinking of it as "middle" rather than a "beginning" does have some logic.

I use the 21 day seasons mod and try to let the holidays be roughly where they should be in the month running on 1 week=1 month. So Winterfest is in the first week of winter and New Years at the end of that same week and sims has the days in between off. My holidays in general:

    Winter:
Week 1 (December) - Winter's eve, Winterfest, Winter's rest, New Years Eve (All days are holidays, giving sims 4 days free Wednesday-Saturday)
Week 2 - Story day (read books, tell stories, no time off, just something fun)
Week 3 - Love day on Saturday, I like the idea that love day ends winter.

    Spring:
Week 1 (March) - Springfest (The equinox, celebrated mid week)
Week 2 - Eggster (Sunday, so first day of the week), Walpurgis night (Saturday, so last day of the week)
Week 3 - Hug parents day (last day of spring)

    Summer:
Week 1 (June) - Last day of school (wed), School holiday (thurs), Summer solstice (fri), then summer holiday starts on Saturday for all sims.
Week 2 - Summer holiday for every sim (no work or school), one activity per day such as "water fun", "bbq", "work out".
    Week 3 - no holidays.

    Fall:
Week 1 - (September) Harvestfest (As a European I think a harvestfest should be at the end of harvest, so at the latest September)
Week 2 - Simblreen (last day of the week, as it is last day of October)
Week 3 - Mourning day (first day), Bon Fire Night (Monday, not a day off)
Moreover, I advise that the cart button must be destroyed!

February is most definitely spring where I come from.

Winter months are November, December and January. Feb, March and April are spring. May, June, July are summer, aug, sept and Oct are autumn.

Feb, may, Oct are the “in between months” where you kinda get two seasons as they change.

I have lived in this country, solely. My pardon for thinking more of the world was alike than they are. Since the world shares the same calendar, it threw me off. I am aware that those down-under have different seasons than those of us in the Northern Hemisphere … Just shows me I need to expand my thinking. Thank you for pointing this out.

Only the southern states in Australia really get a winter, here in sunny Qld we get a week of cool weather if we are lucky, the rest of the time it varies from hot to steamy humid hot. :D

This thread is a bit over a week old, but it stuck in my mind apparently, because I switched my seasons this past week to be 4 weeks in length (so that every household in my current rotation can get a week in each season) and when I re-did the holidays I put Love Day at the end of Winter.

Is there a way to move holidays to a different day, or do you have to delete and remake them?

You have to delete them and remake them. They really should add a way to just let us drag and drop them, but so far there's no way to just move them.

I feel I am the odd one out when it comes to seasons as I delete all the holidays that come with the pack and create my own. As for @GalacticGal initial post I agree it needs to be in winter. I’ve always seen spring being March, April and May. Also autumn and winter are my favourite seasons in real life and nothing beats a sunny cold day with that crisp in the air. Spring always seems to rain where I live.

I do remove some of the premade 'holidays'. I hate the notion of Neighborhood Brawl, it's barbaric. I change the name of Harvest Day to Thanksgiving. Winterfest is Christmas and I add Liberty Day and Labor Day to my calendar. I used to use the mod that allowed for each season to be three weeks with allowed time for these latter two holidays. Sadly, it was interfering with the Starlight Accolades to the point it was driving me insane. So, I'm back on two week seasons. Sniff, sniff, sob, sob. Two is better than one, and four is too many.

I pretty much remove all of the premade holidays as well. Even the ones which I keep the spirit of the holiday I redo in order to change the name to their real world equivalent instead of the weird Sims' name for them. I am now at 4 weeks per season and I like to have one holiday each week, so I also needed to create a lot of completely new holidays.

@Stormkeep See, the problem I have with a four-week season, is it reminds me far too much of the Sims4 without Seasons. Boring. That's why I really loved the 21-day Season mod. But, I have long-since removed it and you know what? The Starlight Accolades hardly ever mess up, now. I have gone back to the two-week season. Not as good, but far better than spending a whole 28 days without much changing. Do you at least get random rain?

I totally agree with you when I'm only playing one household, @GalacticGal, it's why I was using that same mod. I'm up to 4 households in my rotation though, and I rotate every Friday, so I like having each household get one week of each season.
And yah, I get random weather of all the types.

I like to rename this one to Valentine's Day. I am never sure if I should put it in Winter or Spring either lol. My two weeks of winter are packed though with Christmas / Winterfest and New Years events. I like the romantic spring feel to it with the flower giving so I usually leave Valentine's Day in Spring, before Easter / Flower Day. I just wish the Sims could eat those cinnamon candy hearts on this day.

I base my decision on the fact Valentine's Day (Love Day, essentially) falls on the 14th of February. In the hemisphere I'm in that's still Winter.

Since I have restarted my Cantrell household, I'm only playing the one household, although there are other households in the save. All families of the future spouses of the eldest four Cantrell kids. I will check up on the other families from time-to-time, but not really to play them. Ooh, I like the fact you get random weather of all types. That's cool.

I think I do have my Valentines day in spring.

I have Christmas about the third week of Winter For Christmas season I have a holiday the day before Christmas Eve for baking holiday treats, my mom always made a goodie box with fudge and cookies for everyone. So, I kind of continue that by baking holiday cookies, brownies etc. and putting up decorations with my sims, and now that we have group cooking, it works out perfectly for families. then I have Christmas Eve, where I invite over family members and give each person a gift, and have dinner. On Christmas, sims open the presents around the tree on Christmas morning, then again invite relatives over for a big feast and reminiscing. Christmas is always celebrated with families with children. I have aging turned off so different years different sims ( in my rotation ) celebrate it.

New Years Eve and New Year’s Day are at the end of winter, often celebrated with couples. Drinks and New Years resolutions, often out with friends somewhere. I will have to add the new champagne bottle and toast from the new pack to that.

Valentine’s Day I will usually have my sims make a vase of flowers for their Significant other ( wish we had candy making in the Sims 4 ), then they will go out for a night on the town, sometimes with other couples, or sit at home and watch a movie together. Early/mid Soring.

I have Easter with various activities, usually a big feast and egg hunts. Another event celebrated with families with children usually, in late Spring

4th of July and a BBQ with fire works if sims have purchased them, usually with families with children, a summer holiday.

During the year various sims will take vacations.
I have scout clubs, but am going to add a vacation where I take child/teen sims that are scouts and put them in one household for a 3 day summer vacation
My archeologist and writer sims take sabbaticals.

    I think I have a Memorial/Labor Day holiday too.

My sims have a Halloween holiday in late summer or early fall. There will usually be a costume party, so it’s usually at sims that like to entertain.

And, I have Thanksgiving too, usually an extended family event in late fall, with a big dinner, drinks and lots of chat,

I almost always have sims take off the day during holidays, and I use the 4 week season.

Today is Family Day in Canada. I suggest it also for your Sim families. I like to add this one to the calendar. It's nice to have an official holiday off work just for families to do something together.

My Sims just celebrated Harvest Day. I totally forgot to delete this one and set up Thanksgiving in its place. My Bad. Those ornery gnomes were on the list of goals. I cannot stand the little plums. Normally speaking they stay around long after the holiday that brought them to the lot. So, I gather them up and sell them. Yes, I do. Sorry, not sorry.

 How can you not like gnomes!?

I don't like them being tied to the "Thanksgiving" holiday either, but I did give them their very own holiday in my game.

@Stormkeep, allow me to show you why I don't like the nasty little things.

This is a young Erik James Cantrell. He attempted to appease the gnome by offering it pie. This triggered the Gnome. Then Erik did his best to beg for forgiveness. What did he get for his sincere efforts? This:

    I rest my case.

@Elliandre How precious! I need to add that holiday in my game. Just another excuse for my Sims family to do an activity together! It’s even sweeter if the grandparents join in, though I already have Grandparents Day in my game 😁.
