I decided my Sim Parents should play darts upstairs in the gaming room while their five offspring do their homework. Louise went first, in fact, she started before Joseph got into the room. But the dart went askew, apparently. I even had her practice earlier in the day. I found it stuck in the wooden floor near her left foot!
She threw a second one and I honestly thought she said, "Oh, darkness, gloom." Louise is an Erratic Sim, so I shouldn't be surprised at what antics she pulls and what words fly from her lips. But this was funny.
Please share some of the things you've overheard from your Sims.

I will be using this next time I'm unhappy about something haha.
I swear I've heard my Sims say things in English before; like "Good luck" while playing horseshoes.
It's probably just our imagination (maybe we play too much Sims haha).

I'm sure there is an interesting psychological study in here somewhere.
Or maybe we all need a healthy break from our games!
I hear that phrase a lot and hear it as "steeb" so yeah, I think we tend to insert things that make sense to us any time there's an issue with clear audibility. We already know we humans do that with basically everything: our minds impose meaning to randomness, or why we see faces in clouds and irregular-patterned wallpaper and so on as mentioned by @GirlFromIpanema above.
Some Sims4 simlish phrases I can even hear in my head because they replay so often, are "Doh dah veppy!" and "Happy I'm frahm!" (happy you're from something? Okay dude, I'm happy for you too!) but that's because there are such a limited number of stock Simlish phrases in 4, compared to 3, that it's like one of those Elmo toys that says the same six phrases over and over again. Gets tiresome fast.
Some are obviously based on English words, "Noom!" (yum, or num!), "newboo hungah!" when feeding a baby (commenting literally "noob hungies!" and then there's "neeb!" meaning a flat no, and "disgufah!" meaning disgusting! as a comment when grossed out by trash or stinky diapers.
```
I've always wondered what neeb could mean. LOL Thanks. Erik Cantrell says that one a lot!
Actually, I do believe the devs admitted that Simlish is a mish-mash of words from all languages. I used to pick up Russian words back in Sims3, I believe it was. (I took one year of Russian close to 50 years ago.) But you're quite correct, our mind fills in the lines, as it were, in interpreting the undiscernible. That's why in Art Class my instructor suggested we don't fill in an entire line for a cheek or even the nose of the person we were drawing. Let the brain do the rest. When I write, I tend to the something similar. I use description to a minimum and let my readers' minds do the rest.
I hardly played the game more than two-three days a week in the beginning, which is why it took just over a year to complete Pinstar's Legacy Challenge. I'm just now playing every day. I do come up for 'air' upon occasion and do some genealogy and some editing (which I must get back to, if said book is going to be in a form to handout at the next family reunion).
Thanks for weighing in. Your words are very insightful.
Did you know that waffle is actually a Dutch word? This is what I was taught in grade school many, MANY decades ago.
The Blue Moon Jukebox
I was at the grocery store and, as I was pushing my cart up the aisle, I met a young woman heading the other way. Her phone rang, and she stopped to take the call. Then, she greeted the person on the other end with "Sul sul!" My daughter was with me, and she couldn't help giggling at her.
"I think she plays The Sims," Daughter declared to me...loud enough for the woman on the phone to hear.
She simply smiled and nodded "yes."
In Sims3 I heard Toddlers using their Potty Chair, say what sounds very much like, "I do it." So cute.
I literally play this music above when playing Sims 4! Cozy and Fuzzy
Really? I know they spoke Chinese on the TV program, Firefly and to me Simlish doesn't sound a thing like it.
That's basically what the Devs said a few years back. It's a mish-mash. I would dearly love to know what they mean when they say what sounds like sac kree nario. Mine say that a lot.
I loved that series, Rookie or not. I own the entire ONLY season on DVD, which contains at least two episodes that went unaired.
