Have a question about words pronunciation

JeansooJeansoo Posts: 3,606 Member
Hi, my sim is in the space ship and I got this pop up, but have no idea how to 'pronounce the underlined words.

I'm not an English native, can anyone help for this? I can't find these 2 words in English dictionary. Thanks a lot. :)

As these are made-up names, there is no sure pronunciation I see (also not English native here). Anything goes unless SimGuru objects to it.

Or another suggestion is to open Google Translate, type these in (English preferably), and see how it pronounces these.
Makes me try it out too...

Edit. Tried it out. Here's how I feel like Google Translate pronounces these:
Daiscot seems to be pronounced like Days cut.
Hiattooine seems to be pronounced like Here tween.
But as I said, try it out yourself and see how it sounds to you.

I would pronounce the second one similarly to Tatooine, since that apparently was the inspiration.

I think @EgonVM pronounciation sounds good! (I'm a native english speaker). I think the planet names are puns from fictional planets from movies. Hiatooine sounds like the planet Tatooine from Star Wars. I have no idea about Daiscot though :) Hope that helps!

Your English much better than mine. :D I've never thought about trying these on google translation. Good idea..I will try your suggestion when I get new ones next time. Yes the words sounds good. I was confused with 'Hiattooine' that I should pronounce it 'hiatween' or 'haiatween'.

    @EnkiSchmidt, @sarabeth2984
    Thank you. :)

    Native English speaker here.
for 'Daiscot', I treat the 'dai' as a diphthong so get Dye Scot (the ai sounding like aye)
'Hiattooine' could go in several directions. Personal leaning is: Hy at too ine . A lot depends on how you treat that final e and whether the last i is silent.

    Yay Simlish!

Daiscot. Dais (as in platforms that we were clamoring for) + cot (as in those bunk beds we wanted for years). I’d pronounce it Dayus-cot.

Hiattooine. Hiat, as in hiatus, or the Hyatt hotel. Tooine as in Star Wars’ Tatooine. Hyatt-tooeen is how I would pronounce it.

Daiscot is likely named after GrimSuruDoi (Scott Dai) - Likely pronounced Die-Scot.

Hiattooine is likely named after former SimGuruDaniel (Daniel Hiatt) - Likely pronounced Hi-At-Too-Een.
