May 20th - It's time for our Friday Highlights! You can check them out here!

I Love the Calendar, But …

I get a tad frustrated when I got to set up and Event, in this case a Birthday Party, but the Birthday Sim is still at school. That leaves only the Sims at home, currently available. That's a little crazy, don't you think? He lives in the home, he's just at school at the moment, along with the youngest two Sims. Dad is off at work. None of these Sims are even available to choose from. Face/palm. Guess I'll have to set up the party at another time. Oi!

What frustrates you about this system, if anything?

I miss the ability to schedule events! I don't like that if I want to, say, 'plan a wedding', the wedding has to happen right then and there and all of the sims are instantly transported to the event venue.

I hate the fact that you can only invite those sims who are known by the sim who is making the call. I would like to be able to invite the contacts of all household members. Especially for toddler playdates I first need to introduce the parent to the toddler I want to invite, it doesn't matter if my toddler knows them.

If you plan through the calendar and not the phone you can choose the day and starting hour. This does require seasons.

That does seem frustrating. I haven’t aged up any of mine yet. But, I think for events for that household you should be able to at least plan the event for the birthday sims list. And those of other sims in the household (whether home at the moment or not at the moment of planning.

With the calendar, it frustrates me that it does not show dates for each of the festivals in all the worlds you own ( like it does for a week on weather.). There should be a tab for festival dates. Also, when checking weather, there should be a tab to check all the worlds in your game so you can plan vacations or outings knowing what type of weather there is in that world for the week.

I also think when a sim calls and wants you to go somewhere, you are called a few hours in advance so you can prepare, sometimes I would like my sim to go, but they are engaged in something else st the moment.

I agree about the festivals. The CL seem to randomly pop-up and I often can't send my sims there because they are already working/doing something else. I wish the calender would just show when they're happening.

Oh, but it doesn't have to happen right then and there. That's what the calendar is for, as a matter of fact. Click the date on the calendar, choose the Event and from there you set up the Event. Just follow the steps. When you choose the venue, you also choose the time. :) That part I like.

@SheriSim57 I agree about Sims calling and inviting your Sim out somewhere. If I have a Sim leave the lot, that also takes me with them, then my singer Sim, who may be at the Studios laying down tracks for his next album is instantly brought back, no tracks in his inventory. Since it takes 15 tracks per album, it's frustrating when he can only do 5 at a time. If I don't have any other events for him to tend to, I'll often give him the command three times to get all 15 done in succession. He still has to go back to put the album package together, and then go back again to release the album. Having another family member bebop off is problematic.

I have noticed that sims cannot leave and move out of a household on the day of a holiday. I have to end the holiday prematurely to be able to move out. Since my game involves some rotation and moving (while I rely a lot on the calendar to complete my challenge) this can get frustrating at times.

I hardly ever threw a party that way, because the list to pick guess from is way to restricted. My sim van't even invite siblings unless they had contact recently. Inviting members of your family-in-law is even worse. Needing to knock on other houses' doors and greet all household members in order to invite them to a party is sick. We got cell phones, so why does throwing a party need to be like stone age? As if there existed no way to get the number to your wife's parents without visiting them in a different world to get their number in person. So - I'm better off NOT throwing parties ;)

@Simmerville I hear you. The father of the bride isn't allowed to invite guests to his daughter's wedding. In order to have both families attend, they have to get acquainted at least with each and every member, up front. I would love to see either a mod that changes this, or some changes to take place before Sims4 reaches its end. Would be nice to select by family, so long as it doesn't go over the 15 person maximum, which I would also love to have changed. I play an Ancestral game save set in the 18th century colonial America. I do fudge a bit inasmuch as my Sims use their phones and at one time I had a cc loom that was actually also a computer, but that was ages ago. Can't get a job without one or the other. But, it is what it is.

@GalacticGal, there’s a mod for both of the things you’ve listed. Search for more guests as well as invite anyone.

    You’re welcome!

I have the “invite anyone” mod and it’s fantastic, solves all of those problems. However if I want all the in-laws to get to know each other, I just have the bride and groom invite their families over for a big dinner (not using the event feature). I “introduce” everyone using the “talk up Sim” social, that way everyone is acquainted before the wedding (or whichever event I’m planning).

I have done that in my Ancestral game save, as it was in keeping with the time period. Never thought to use it in my main save, set more in the future, as in 23rd century. :) Great idea! Do you know if this invite anyone mod gets along with MCCC, Road to Fame, or a few others?

I have been using the invite anyone mod alongside MCCC with no issues, I've also had Road to fame with it at one point (a few patches back). Currently I have two other mods from the road to fame creator that work just fine with it (romance, & slow dance). I have tons of mods in my game (mostly the popular ones UI cheats, Tmex mods, etc.), and I see no problems with it. The only thing to note from my experience is that I have not updated my game for yesterday’s patch, so I can’t say how it works with that yet.

What I don't like about it is that it's not actually a functional calendar. It's basically a place holder from 1 to 28. Don't mistake this for a EA/Sims 4 knock - I'm a big enthusiast of chronology and horology (basically I love the concept of time), and with the calendar I can't do anything fun with it like calculate years or weeks because it's a 28-day "board".

I don't know what the deal is. Max "days" per season is 28 but the calendar has for example summer with 36 days(well "boxes"), winter with less that( I stopped counting).

Good call, I never really considered that before. :open_mouth:

I do wish that setting up an event could be done by the sim-god rather than the sims themselves, so we could book it for anyone in the household and also invite anyone that is known to anybody in the household.

It's strange that when you are setting up a club (from GT) and you set a parameter (such as level 2 fishing skill), you then get access to sims within that parameter and can add them to your club even though you don't know them from Adam, but you can't do something simple like inviting your future wife's family to your wedding because you haven't yet met them.

And don't get me started on toddler play dates! But I guess those are more party restrictions rather than calendar restrictions.

For the calendar itself, I wish we could move a holiday to a different day if we want, rather than having to delete it and re-do. I also wish there was a way to select how many days you want in a season. I have no idea why it has to be restricted to a limited amount of multiples of 7. I want to be able to play an entire rotation in one season so that all my households get to enjoy each season of the year.
