Q. about woodworking + retail!

So, I have a yearning to make a Sim who's really into woodworking, and to have her open her own store eventually, to sell her own things and some related build/buy stuff. What I'm wondering is, how good does crafting skill have to be before you can earn enough doing retail with it to make all that work? Any tips for trying to combine crafting with retail? I'm figuring I'll play her as a one-Sim household for a while.

Well the higher quality, the higher amounts of simoleons sims will pay for it. You can also go into the retail store and click on the cashier and adjust the prices. So you can have a markup of 100% and make tons of profit even if the item is super cheap

I made a very successful woodworking store, but I waited until my Sim had level 10 handiness and the Marketable trait, which increased the sales price a lot. I also had him study the schematic for the camping statue at Granite Falls, which he's been able to sell for up to 4000 simoleons (over 1000% profit before store markup).

I kept profits high by restocking from inventory rather than using the store's restocking feature, having one Sim craft while the other tended to customers, and hiring no employees. Besides the camping statue, bathtubs and dining tables sell for the most money.

I have done this and it works really well. I struggled to find the right bits in build mode as I wanted a sort of roadside craft shop, but I cobbled something together - I have got a tent, a small toilet block and the camping shower. I have since added a barbeque and picnic table. I have also grown plants on the lot and sell the plants.

Doesn't earn piles of cash, but makes a nice profit.

I have another setup with a painter that built a gallery up in a similar fashion. That makes lots and lots of money!

Neat! Thanks so much :) I've been thinking to use a lot of OR build for the store :)
