What Career(s) Do You Usually Go With, and What Are the Career(s) You Stay Away From?

I couldn't see anything posted about this, so if there is a discussion I'm sorry.

I usually go with Writer, Painter, or Culinary. Right now, I'm trying to use different careers because I want to know what they involve without watching anyone else play. I've only tried business so far, and there's not much. (That may be because my Sim hasn't been promoted, but I'll keep trying).

The career I stay away from is criminal. I don't know why, it actually sounds interesting, but I have anxiety about it. Another I stay away from is freelancer, because it seems to glitch. There's no way for me to turn in a job, and so I have to cancel it, not getting any money.

Right now I’m playing the scientist career (which is my favorite from the entire game) but my sim is about to quit her job because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. She will be knitting in the meantime & selling her creations on plopsy. Her husband works as a detective (which is my second favorite career). When she was in college & single I did have her do the freelance career as a programer & I actually liked it a lot. I do plan on getting her into retail (baker) once the baby is older though since I want her to spread out in careers.

Besides the careers I mentioned & superstar (which I briefly played on a old main sim when it first came out) I can’t really say much on the other careers. I guess the career I avoid are the rabbit hole careers. I prefer going to work with my sim & having total control.

I don't like playing the criminal career either, mostly because my sins tend to be goodie 2 shoes lol. But I love the scientist and detective career best, conservation, and botany after that. I play rotationally between families so I get a taste of all the careers:)

I try to play all careers, find the one that suits my sim. Currently I play a Legacy and every sim will have another career. But the secret agent career and the criminal career are the ones I play for the first time! I often play the science career for the replicator ( don‘t know what it is called properly... I am German so I play with German text😀) and the possibility to travel to Sixam and the collectibles. Doctor, Business, Cooking, Painter are the ones I have my Sims taking very often.

I don't shy away from anything and pick what's best for my sim. I can't wait to try the Detective career for the first time though!

Hello, fellow German! If you're referring to the thing that I think you're referring to, I believe they just call it the cloning machine.

As for me, I have sims in almost all careers (except for some of the freelancer and part-time jobs), but I, too, use the Scientist career a lot because it's one of the few that give you cool stuff to use at home, other than just emotional decor. I also seem to have an unhealthy obsession with military careers, with a disproportional amount of cops, soldiers, space rangers, and secret agents on either side of the law. Artistic careers such as writer, painter, musician or actor would be the second most frequent, and most of my sims tend to have at least one creative hobby even if they don't earn any money with it.

I play only active or semi-active careers. I usually stay away from the base game ones since they are very hands-off.

I haven't tried them all yet. Since I've begun playing premades and townies in rotation, I try to pick the career that's the best fit for the aspirations and traits of my Sims. I have, for instance, a barista who aspires to be a Mixologist but doesn't want to quit his job; a couple of aspiring cooks, a couple of entertainers (one going for comedy, another for music), a couple of painters, a couple of writers, a couple of computer programmers, one of them in the e-sports branch, an athlete, a couple of scientists, a couple of detectives, a former medic, and a former astronaut, and one deceased criminal. I also have a dedicated gardener without a full time job. Since I got the City Living pack and added several new careers, one in the current turn in rotation is a Critic. (She's a snob who aspires to be a Mansion Baron...what else am I going to do with her?) Since I don't use cheats and I like playing a variety of sims, none of them are wealthy, and none of them have reached the top of their careers yet.

I always comeback to Doctor, critic, culinary. I like the work from home careers. Also like to be self-employed or own a business.

I stay away from Criminal, Scientist, Astronaut, and Secret Agent.

Most of my sims don't have careers at all. I prefer just crafting all kinds of things.
But from the careers I have played, scientist is the best. And I'm not a fan of the newer, semi-work-from-home careers. The daily tasks are either way too simple, or take too much time.

I try to use all careers in my rotation to make the sims/families different form each other. I haven't gotten around using all of the newer careers yet, let alone doing both branches (looking at you uni & eco lifestyle). I love the semi active careers though so looking forward to play them.

Most of my Sims don't have careers, but the ones that do are usually business owners (nightclubs, restaurants, etc). I do have one non-business career Sim, and he's a crooked cop

Most of my Adult sims are retired after I give them the highest career level so that they can pursue other interests.

I have a lot of writers but I generally try to have sims among the different careers, so it's mostly a case of having not tried one yet.

I haven't done the maker careers from EL or the style influencer yet but I probably will.

I have a few designated villains who are criminals, sometimes I enhance the criminality with cheats.

I'd say that I avoid playing a "Youtuber" or media influencer. I have a few Get Famous actors but I've avoided having a focus on making money through uploading videos.

modern ones like the influencer careers just really don't sit right with my playstyle so i never choose those

I often do business career cause i like the objects

or then like some creative one

also avoid careers where i have to do lots of task things that require meeting other sims & active careers because its just annoying having to find sims and whatever when you have large family of sims to control so i will only play those if i have 1-2 sims and i actually feel like doing tasks

I don't like the City Living stay at home careers, due to too much traveling around the city required. Also the politician career irritates the introvert in me when my sims have to socialize that much. I love the acting career and really like the scientist career. The rabbithole careers I am pretty neutral about, although I kind of prefer the "out there" ones like astronaut and secret agent.

I've never had a criminal. I probably have 100s of career mods in my game, so I have a lot of variety. I love the active careers, especially scientist, so they may be overrepresented. I have lots of varieties of musicians too.

Since I got, DU, I always seem to end up with a surplus of sims in the Law career! Since they pay well and you can work from home most of the time, they're pretty great for when you need to have all the adults in your household bringing in a steady income, but you're also raising toddlers at the same time.

I really enjoy designing outfits for other sims using the Style Influencer career paths, so I've always got about three sims per generation working on those careers, but I actively avoid the Politician careers (there's just so much SOCIALISING involved!) and having too many sims in Education - sure, it pays well and you can work from home, but if you really need to work from home and you get the daily task of convincing someone to donate money to your cause? /GROAN
I can't go out and harass sims for charity in the PARK, boss; I've gotta stay home and teach my toddler how to potty. Ask the maid? Do you know how many times I've already asked the maid?

I think I have a pretty even mixture of Sims across all careers.

But I notice that I tend to gravitate towards creativity-related careers (eg. painter, writer, style influencer).

Also, my personal preference is for the semi-active careers (eg lawyer, politician, style influencer) as they offer you the flexibility of keeping your Sims home when you need/want them or sending them into a rabbit hole when you need/want to concentrate on other Sims instead.

For teens I favour Lifeguard and labourer, the rest are too time-consuming.

I don’t like all the reports for the Business and Secret Agent careers but it’s not as bad at the higher levels. Crime doesn’t pay very well so I don’t bother with that but otherwise I will play most. If I have a SIM I am very focused on I will try to have the other partner do a rabbit hole or go to work more so I can go to work or work from home with the one that interests me.

I havent really played with any career in years, they just dont interest me anymore, for now at least. I have yet to try some of them even. I like for my sims to make money through other means like selling things, or i might try running a resturant to see if i like it as a way to make money.

I usually play with Freelancer because I enjoy them the most, especially getting to just work when I want too and only when my sim is in a good mood. I've also been trying out new ones recently, and right now I'm exploring the Social Media career from City Living.

I always find careers that fit my intended personality for my Sims. So that means like, every game I play, I have at least one cop/detective, one musician, and one entertainer/comedian. I enjoy playing as evil Sims too, so Criminal is a common career choice.

Business sounds so lame and boring lol, don't think I'll ever make a Sim join business, don't care how much money it makes.

I tried out the Freelancer careers but they were honestly too broken to truly enjoy playing, so now I never use them.

Also, not a career, but I hardly ever have my Sims do the odd jobs that came with Island Living. Mostly because a lot of the available jobs take place in Sulani, which does not make sense if my Sims are in Newcrest. Yes, I know, they're mostly rabbit holes so it's not a big deal gameplay-wise, but I've got a narrative to stick to, here!
