But only if it's done right, which I feel the current team is incapable of doing and the engine incapable of handing it even if they were.

I feel kinda meh about it actually... not sure what all it would entail so it's a cautious yes

If the ship actually moved and there were port towns to explore, then yes. Otherwise no, it’s not ambitious enough to interest me.

Most of my Sims couldn't afford to go to cruise. And those who would aren't the type who would be interested of going to one.

As long as their's an optional possibility of the ship sinking, an optional chance of a sea monster attack, port destinations (that can be existing worlds you own or new ones) that are customizable depending on the cruise, cool CAS, a boat that actually moves, minimal loading screens on the boat (maybe if you want to go into a room that isn't yours, making the rooms the "lot" and the boat the "neighborhood"). Good CAS is also a must for me, and I want different cruise lines as well. I don't obviously need all of this and you know what? Let's just make a full on Expansion Pack featuring a new coastal world, resorts, hotels, and cruises. We can call it, "Vacation Living" or "Get on Vacation." I prefer the former tbh.

Edit: I would love it if there were special rooms for mermaids too, that you could access from under the water and race the boat in the open seas or something. This would be the perfect opportunity to implement an underwater world, that you can only visit from the main menu if you unlock it by visiting, either in scuba gear or as a mermaid.

I can't really imagine how it would be done and how it would work. Why not though? It sounds pretty amazing.

Not really. I have IL and that's good enough for me. I would love a farming pack, though... 😁

I am another who doesn't really understand how would work. Do you want to focus on life aboard the cruise ship? Or maybe the different destinations? Small worlds with separate neighborhoods don't translate into large forms of transportation.

I guess I could imagine something like this:

    Choose destination

    *loading screen*

Life onboard ship. State room, large ship deck with railing, pool, spa. Activities such as parasailing, water park, buffet, nature lectures, Cirque du Simleil, painting/acting/couples dance classes, stage musicals, live band/nightclub.

    after 3 nights

    *loading screen*

Snowy town on a fjord with snow sports, glaciers and icebergs.
    or
Uninhabited equatorial island with exotic plants, birds and animals.
    or
A hot, humid town spread along the banks of a wide river filled with small boats where vendors sell local foods, goods and clothing.

    Something like that?

The way I see it, the ship wouldn't actually "move". The scenery around it would though.
The lot could be a large elongated rectangle with a point at the front. Water would be around the lot for swimming boating, etc.
Could have something like 3 above water (ground) levels and 2 sub-levels.
The rectangle plot could be divided into 3 plots, connected with narrow hard-coded (un-modifiable) sections. That way you could have up to 3 households. Bow, amidships, and stern.
As for docking at ports, I suppose that would just be more like you can chose a group to visit another world for awhile before returning to the ship.

I think it's plausible and could be done with the game mechanics.

EDIT: Perhaps the connecting parts for the 3 lots could have a small lot in between for bar/lounge and other NPC type lots.

This is a fabulous idea! I could see it as another vacation world. The "world" would mostly be the ship, maybe with a couple of ports of call.

I could be interested in this. (Talk about stuff for elders ...) I would want it to appeal to all ages and the scenery would really need to change. I think there is a risk that it could get repetitive but it could be fun as well.

I do wonder what would be new that it would add besides the ship itself. It could be a way of adding casinos. I wouldn't be against a docked ship or boat though either.

I definitely want hotels or a resort.

yes where we can have or sims explore the ships shop on board the ship when the ship is at sea explore ports of calls or shop or go on shore excursion to learn the history story of the city they are visiting or simply to have a nice relaxing day at the beach before returning to the ship

I can't imagine how they could possibly make a big boat ride interesting.

I might be up for this but I will be able to say more in November after I go on a cruise IRL. I know a few people who have been on cruises already and loved them but none of them are gamers so I can't ask if they think it would work for The Sims.

I can see this being interesting. It could function like a vacation, just in multiple parts. It would be a great way to add a new career or two (Cruise ship captain? cruise ship entertainer?). I’d want the “cruise ship” to be editable (at least the rooms and indoor venues) and I’d expect the actual cruising to have scenery viewable from decks so sims could paint from reference and photograph.

They could have the ship “dock” at a couple of destination worlds where your sim has the opportunity to go ashore for 24 hours to explore.

Sims sleep on the ship, can get left behind if they miss departure time and have to pay to fly home and miss the remainder of the trip.

Maybe throw in a chance at getting food poisoning? 🤣

Even if they just set up 3 destination locations, and let you choose a cruise that went to 1, 2, or 3, ports based on cost.

Not going to hold my breath on any of this, but the dream is nice 😁

I don't see them being able to make good and sensible gameplay with this idea. I think this iteration is too limited for this.

It's pretty massive. It's built on the big 64x64 on the Windenburg Island. It has 2 levels above water, 1 at water level for "boarding" and check in, and then 2 below, with the lowest being the crew quarters. LOL. It's such a big project I still haven't finished it. And we've had many packs added since I last visited it to work on it.

When visiting ports, you can pick up souveniers or maybe do some day thing on the side like take a hike up the local mountain, ride donkeys on the trails, swim with stingrays.....something!

I said a long time ago that I would love for them to be able to pick up driftwood on the beaches and then use the woodworking table to craft things made from the driftwood. Like room dividers, tables, lamps, sculptures, etc. I was hoping they would do something like that with Sulani, but alas, no.

And yes, I see it working with the ship as the "world" and all the common areas part of it's walkable area. The nightclub, or dining room would be a lot for those purposes. Would love a little casino in it too!

The "ports" would also be lots to explore. Even if the little side trips were rabbit holes like in S2 I would be fine with that, so long as they could go to the port and shop and then maybe sign up at a booth for the adventure....

Lots of good ideas all around, getting the vibe. To properly pull this off needs detailed and careful planning, not only on the various things to do but how to implement them. Doing the ship right is a project in itself, both the layout and the mechanics of movement. There is more than just moving through the ocean, but the motion - pitching and rolling both at the same time. This would be felt even if inside. Also adds a new hazard - sea sickness. After several 'cruises' on "Grey Stack Lines' (navy) and time on the Queen Mary have an idea of what's needed.
