Looking for builders that don't use CC, or item combinations that don't work

GdurmaGdurma Posts: 490 Member
Hey guys.

I find myself getting frustrated with builds lately. I can't seem to find a house/building that's well decorated, uses NO CC, or uses cheats to combine items to make something look "pretty" but unusable. It would be nice to find play tested homes so we know that the sims can get to everything in the home. I don't know why, but it seems like combining items together to make a furniture piece is popular. For an example, when builders combine tables to bathroom sinks to make them look "better". My personal opinion is that I don't care for those things. Or when builders combine 3-4 tables together to make a bigger table. I just want simple builds that look really nice that are ready to play in without furniture combining. Can anyone recommend a builder to check out?

Thanks!

I do understand what you mean. Personally, I don't use CC or mesh things together and I DO playtest pretty much all of them (though sometimes I still miss things). Sometimes I don't want to build, however, and that's when I jump into the gallery to find something great. I can peruse my favorites and make some suggestions when I'm next in the game (which will probably be soonish, to be honest.) If you are interested, I do have lots under my same username, BlueSargent300, but don't feel obligated to download those. I'm admittedly not great at landscaping, but I love building exteriors and floor plans. I'll take a peek at what I have saved from other simmers and see if anything sounds up your alley! Best of luck!

I try to not combine things and rarely do. Sometimes, you have to turn on MOO before you place my builds. But, I don't feel that's a big deal, taking a couple of seconds out of your life. Sometimes a sofa just looks better moved 3 inches to the left. You're more than welcome to check out my catalog. ID:Taoron24121 I've heard nary a complaint.

    Hello Gdurma,
I agree with you that functionality should be the priority over aesthetics!! As a builder, I agree with Taoron that the MoveObjects cheat is pretty much unavoidable but my priority is always for the play-ability part of the game because I love playing as well. Love a good rags to riches challenge!! :) I play test my builds as much as I can. I love creating great atmospheres because that's what I love playing in and hope others will too. My origin ID is duncanJK3 if you're interested. Sorry if there is a floating object or two!! I'll keep my eye out for other builders as well!!

I know what you mean. I always design my houses for me, that is, a house that I would enjoy playing. I like them to look nice, but they must be playable. I don't use cc, but do use MOO to make things look more natural. I always play test before posting them on the gallery. My EA id is SassiLassi if you'd like to take a look.

This reason — coupled with the fact that I only have the base game — is the reason I decided to just build everything myself so that everything is guaranteed to be playable  Definitely not fantastic at building stuff but I’m learning and enjoying it.

But this thread is a great place to compile users who create play-tested builds so I will definitely check some of you guys out! Feel free to swing by at my place too (EA ID: andhanwib) but again, still a learner here

My builds are all CC free, if I use anything non-cataloged it's either art from roseymow that I downloaded from the gallery (sometimes it translates into the build, sometimes not) or I use debug. I playtest all my builds and yank them down if I find a bad glitch with them (unless it's that dumb mailbox in the middle of the room or one wall missed in painting because that's easy enough to fix, lol). I will sometimes move some objects together, like shelves over fireplaces and some cabinet work but I'm not big on playing with too much because if the house is gorgeous but non-functional- what good does it do for meeting a Sim's needs?
I'm SpoonieSarah on the gallery. I can't promise elaborate, modern pieces of art but I have some great family style homes and community lots. :)

Feel free to browse through my gallery @Gdurma any builds I have are play tested and CC free. If I used any cheats it will be in the description along with what pack items I have used. I'm Mamajanaynay on the gallery.

I can absolutely relate and it's the main reason I rarely download gallery homes. I just build my own (no CC, no moveobjects). Whether I'm any good is up to everyone's taste but I'm on the gallery as darrenfroggy if you wanna chack my builds.

My own builds are really the only rec I have since I've given up on trying to find others that would suit my needs :( .

Hey @Gdurma! Most of my creations might fit the bill if you want to take a look. I play test and don't often do combination items because I prefer to build for playability and quite often have a budget I'm working towards. Here's my gallery under my Origin ID withlovejulien: https://www.ea.com/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/pc/gallery/browse?category=all&searchtype=ea_origin_id&sortby=newest&time=all&searchquery=withlovejulien&max=50&maxis=false

My builds are CC free and I play test most of them (sometimes I forget)! You do have to turn on moveobjects before placing but I always create builds to be functional because I play in most of them. my origin id is natalier98 and here's the url to my gallery page

I don't use CC and playtest all my builds to make sure they are usable. You can search under my origin ID: Lsnishi to see if there's anything you like. :)

    Hi!
There are lots of builders I have run into that use the hashtag #playtested - which means they have tested their games for functionality. Maybe something to try? Wish you good luck house hunting.

I always build structures for the purpose of playing in them myself, uploading to the gallery is always second for me. Because of that it's all CC free, I never use building cheats and it's been play tested by me (:. My account is Rhialiesin. I mostly build small houses (with some exceptions) but my Mum also sometimes gets me to share her builds on my account which are not play tested because she only likes building, so anything that looks very forest-y is not necessarily completely functional (though she doesn't use CC or cheats).

I really like the idea of highlighting these builders because I agree that it's something I look for if I download anything. I'm working on building more again myself but I would consider other playtested/non-CC builds (preferably without needing MOO in my case, but that's not the end of the world).

I've downloaded several great lots but I ran into one very pretty house where I had this issue with builds that clearly weren't playtested. The stove wasn't working and I had to delete a bunch of decor to make it work. There was no functional counter space in the kitchen when I started playing so you couldn't cook at all. The fridge would sometimes have issues with working. The hallways were also way too narrow (meaning only one square in width upstairs. I have it on the recommended lot size and I don't have room to stretch it out there without taking out all of the front yard/garden. It is a beautiful house so I've kept it for now but the family may outgrow it simply due to the way that it was built.

When I've looked recently, I've been unsure about lots I can use other than the ones highlighted by Maxis since those are playtested. Those are great but sometimes you are wanting something different. I'll also say that I don't mind decor but I don't want so much decor that functionality is broken. Anyway, I think it's great to have a thread highlighting these types of builders since that's what I look for as well.

I've added several gorgeous lots - a colonial library, a beautiful floral cafe, an ice-skating rink with a bar that looks like it is from some northern rustic area, a toddler park that I edited to suit my taste, several other specialist builds and several Victorian houses. I've not yet figured out how to build a Victorian and I'd rather download someone's careful handiwork. These all settled in nicely in my game and I appreciate the talent of the people who took the time to build them as well as other lots that might not have been a fit for my game.

I really like that one pretty house I described but if I continue to have issues when I play it again, it may ultimately need to be deleted and replaced. It's an example of the problematic lots that you've described and it made me nervous to download more without knowing if a lot will be functional.

I definitely recommend @lsnishi build's, i have used them in my game no problem and they are beautifully designed.

I also do have some builds (cherpar) - apart from the first two they are all play tested (before i knew about playtesting lol). I do use move objects cheat for the same reason builders have set out above, and occasionally put items together, but only if they work. I agree with you, there is nothing more annoying than something beautiful which you cant use to play your game.

there is one cavity i have to say - if you are constantly getting errors in a build, then don't use it - but please don't give up after one and assume its the builder. From time to time EA errors do happen and its not necessarily something the builder did.

hope you find what you are looking for.

Thank you so much @cherpar! It's always great to hear that someone was able to use a build you made and liked it. You also do beautiful work too! I've seen it on the forum and it's fantastic.

I have exactly the same philosophy as @Allears . I'm very careful to make sure all of my builds place without moo active, though I use it to place or tweak certain things. I do use some decorative items from debug which are not usable, but are decorative.

I agree that sometimes downloading a house that's used heavy amounts of moo can be a pain. As if you forget to turn it on items will be missing, or you wont even notice until 1/2 hours into playing with the house that stuff seems to be missing! But sims is sometimes very restricting in where items can be placed so moo does help there. I use it mostly to get items flush against walls/in corners.

Hey, I get the frustration. I tend to really enjoy the challenge of building with out cheats. I even make make my Sims work for the money to build their dream homes. I think I only have two builds that even use the Move objects cheat. I don't use CC. You can look me up in the gallery or to check out some builds in more detail my flickr page has a few. https://www.flickr.com/photos/167931637@N08/albums.

I don’t use CC, I’m on console, so it’s not an option. I also don’t combine items. I’ve uploaded 70 items so far, a lot of them houses I’ve actually played. Not all of my uploads are decorated, but I’ve marked the unfurnished ones.

I do use a bit of Move Objects, but I’m very careful about it because routing issues drive me nuts, mostly in the landscaping.

You’re welcome to see if anything I’ve made suits your fancy. It’s a mixed bag of modern and Victorian/period stuff. (I go through phases)

@Gdurma I don't use mods at all when I create builds I upload to the gallery because they need to be, well, playable. There's no fun in downloading a pretty design that you can't use. I also playtest them all before uploading and decorating is the most fun part so I do that, too.
Here's an example of what you (or I) can do with a bit (OK, a lot) of time and some creativity: https://tinyurl.com/sztsgcb

I also try to make some designs that only use base game stuff because some people don't want or need to buy a lot of extensions (it makes sense if you only play the game occasionally).

I generally work without MOO, and I've never touched CC or mods. Even so, I think I've managed to get some pretty good results. I'm Xinqun on the gallery.

I don't use moo and I play in all my builds before I upload. Not the best builder though and most of my stuff doesn't have a lot of decor because I play with cut away walls. Oh, I did moo a train under a x-mas tree in 1 build. Am jjb1446 on the gallery. There isn't a lot there but you might find one you like.
