I've only been nominated once in my life, for Best Actress, didn't win either. This is where one clings to the notion, that at least I was nominated … (Yes, it was high school Theatre Class.) As for my Sim, he's a Global Superstar and he's never been so much as nominated. I was told he just needs to attend the award night and there's a chance he could receive something for his written music. So, like I've been doing lately, I made sure to send him in my game, today. Mind you, the time whizzed by and next thing I knew it was already after 6 pm. So I sent him anyway. His sister shows up, now listed as a B-Lister when she was a Proper Celebrity before I split the family. Superstar just got married and he and his new wife moved into their own place.
While he's at the Accolades, his sister receives some kind of Starlight Accolade to be worn on her neck to properly display her fame. It must have gone into her family inventory because I zoomed in on her to see what it was, but she was still only wearing the sweet pearl necklace she had on when she arrived. Face/palm. Oh, well. I'll just keep having my superstar churn out lyrics and hold concerts, etc. One day his ship will come in … Maybe.
I didn't know where else to ask this so sorry if I'm kind of pulling the topic to a different direction but I'm experiencing that only my actor sims I being nominated and winning awards. My sims who are famous for other things (author, painter, dj, music producer, etc) never get nominated for anything even as proper celebrities and global stars. Is there something that you have to accomplish in order to be nominated for an award if they are not an actor?
Yes, this is normal. It's never happened to me, but it's possible. You just need to keep trying!
Edit: @jbt18 that's either a glitch or it's just unlucky. I've had many painters, writers, and even video producers get nominated (and win!) the Starlight Accolades.

My sim did get nominated and he wasn’t really famous he just wrote a good book I’m assuming but I completely forgot to go to the award ceremony so I’ll never know if he won.
Just yesterday, a Sim I had just placed into my game showed up at the Awards Show and she won. Mind you, I made her an Executive Chef (yes, I used MCCC to get her there), but she stood before the audience and gave a speech. According to the message, she brought the house down with her tear-jerker speech. My Sim, in the meantime, has made five albums, all of them released, too. Not a mention. Not a single nomination for the lad, who is wildly popular. Oh, well. It is what it is. I may faint the day he receives something in the mail …
I play famous sims all the time. I attend the award ceremonies every week.
My last three famous sims, played their entire careers, Work levels 1 thru 10, Fame level 5. All three, not one of them EVER got an award their entire lives.
The game is severely broken here.
You can't play expecting to win the award, because it WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

I play for the career, the acting is fun.
I used to watch the Oscars and always anticipated that Bob Hope would finally receive one. He never did, either. Ho-hum. I just wish the game could switch out a few recipients from time to time. It gets a little boring that the very same few get all the awards. Once in awhile, I have experienced one of my Sims receiving an award. Only once, did she get up and give a speech. I hadn't actually played her, yet. I put her and her family into the town so one of my other Sims could meet them. Her daughter is to be one of the Cantrell sons' bride. That, and my singer's younger and only sister, receiving an award (of course not while active) is as close as I've come.
First time I played, my writer Sim won an award for one of her books. My actor Sim never won one. I guess it's like Real Life -- not everyone wins,
That's really so true. I was thrilled to be nominated for Best Actress in my High School Theater class awards for the season. I fully expected another girl (way more talented that I) would receive the award. I was correct. This is the time I realized it truly is great to be nominated. Just knowing someone thought I did a good enough job, despite my horrible case of stage fright. It's all good, though. And it was a terrific life-lesson.
You should just go to the award ceremony as often as you can. Even if you aren't nominated. My sim has won about 8 awards I think and I don't think I was ever notified that she was nominated.
