can't play since the update(s)=take 5?

So, once again my "Play" button is greyed out since the latest update. I have cleared the thumbnail caches (and everything else labeled "cache" in the Sims 4 folder), cleared cache files (except Local Content) from Origin folder, uninstalled and re-installed Origin-still nothing. Have run CCCleaner 3 times. One question-when the direction is to clear the Origin folder of "Everything" except Local Content, per cincrict's instructions, does that mean everything labeled "cache" or absolutely everything? Also, any other suggestions before I (sigh) uninstall and re-install yet again? Thank you from the bottom of my lo tech heart.

sorry too hear @DarkFireFly if your question is about origin's cache reinstalling replaces cache files and just want to confirm you have tried running the game after resetting your files:

how to reset your sims 4 files, pull your my documents/electronic arts/sim 4 folder to the desktop and run a test game if this fixes the problem you can move back old files to the new but test for problems:

files to move back (but again test each move)
saves - game save
options.ini - game settings
screenshots
custom music
mods folder - IMPORTANT: only return updated mods or mods deemed fine by modder to your game patch; outdated mods can corrupt save files and user feedback isnt enough proof that a mod isnt conflicting with new game coding
tray folder - all your saved builds and sims

Origin Cache: The whole folder Origin folders with everything except that Local Content folder.

Hello.
Shut down your computer completely. Then start the computer again and see if that helps.

Try to repair the game if you can, by right clicking the sims 4 picture and pressing repair.

Log out of Origin. Then right click on the origin icon and run as administrator, and this may help.

Thanks rosemow. Still a greyed out button. For me, clicking on "repair" appears to be a kiss of death for my game-this greyed out play button issue has occurred before when I have attempted to repair it. I'll mess around a little more, then likely resign myself to yet another uninstall/reinstall while I berate myself for liking this game while it has such dumb issues.

Check in Task Manager that the sims 4 program isn't running or if any other background processes are preventing the game from running.
Perhaps try clean booting your computer then log into origin and try to start the game.

I am absolutely disgusted with this last upgrade. I can no longer play my game unless I pay $14.99 for a 'Sims 4 Digital Deluxe Upgrade'. I cannot save, build or do any ongoing play. This game is only 12 months old. What a rip off.
Message is 'The save game you are attempting to load was saved to a newer version of the Sims 4 than is currently installed. Please update in order to savely load this save game.' Thumbs down.

Hello @pattib. I have posted on your other thread but will also post here. This is a link to a fix for the message that you received. You don't need to upgrade to Digital Deluxe if you don't want to.

if you still have issues you may need to reinstall the game.

That is indeed the case ceejay402-a couple of times because I forgot to delete the temp files. It is now up and running-thanks for the helpful suggestions all.
