Links work - but try this one for your optional challenge link - https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0izirQBzzy0/U97Vo81olqI/AAAAAAAAA1M/eOeaqUel9N4/w1024-h768-no/Screenshot-44.jpg

It will take the judges right to the pic (I think) you want :)

For #148 "A Mini Vacation" - does the world have to be an official EA world? Do we have to use the provided family or can we make our own with the traits/likes given?

No - it does not have to be an official EA world. You can use any world out there of your choosing :D It would be a good idea to provide a history/details/link for the world you use if it is not a standard one though. This will just help your judges with the "fits with the overall atmosphere of the world" aspect of judging.

You are NOT required to use the provided family, but part of the criteria is that you take into consideration their likes and preferences. You can certainly make your own family as long as they have the same traits/likes/aspirations as the one provided; however, use of either family is optional unless you take part in the optional challenge.

Um...wow, that's really all I can say right now and thank you so much. This house really was a mammoth task, but I poured everything into it and fell in love with my family. So I'm glad you liked it, and I will try to work on the patterns. That is something that is hard for me because I love the boldness of layering patterns on top of each other, even though sometimes I know it can be over the top. That landscaping took hours to perfect, but at least it was worth it. All of the other entries were fabulous so it is truly an honor to take this as my first win. Thanks again.

You're welcome. You may want to consider moving up to advanced, since you clearly have a handle on some of the trickier building techniques. :)

    Hi all.. Quick side info

Ruthless_kk had been invited to the Sims 4 creators camp last week :) And since she is an awesome builder in the Sims 3, I was quite anxious to learn what she thought of The Sims 4. So I wanted to share her blog with you :)

    http://getsimplyruthless.blogspot.nl/2014/08/the-roofthe-roofthe-roof-is-on-fire.html

I really like how she went into depth about all sorts of features.
And now back to The Sims 3 and Build and share ;)

ps: we haven't decided what to do with BnS and The Sims 4. Not everyone is as excited about it without CASt and the sorts. I was wondering, what would YOU like?

Guys - if you haven't already heard, the forums are going to be read-only for an unspecified amount of time (possibly several days) while they make the transition to Sims4. The deadline for this challenge will, of course, be extended if the forums are still down on Wednesday, August 13th. If you have any questions about the challenge while the forums are down, please ask on BuildersBoulevard or the BnS Facebook Page. Thanks :D

I did this build, got to the point where I was about to style everything decided to save so I exited back into edit town mode so I could do so but i sticks on the loading screen every time, no matter if I save if after 5 minutes or an hour, So I can't save it, has anyone ever had this?

OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM: Challenge No. 148, A Mini Vacation

LINK TO MEDIA: http://s1380.photobucket.com/user/mederouin/slideshow/Build and Share no 148
(Password: Pleasant Note: is case sensitive)

    OPTIONAL CHALLENGE: N/A

LEVEL: Intermediate (Thanks for the vote of confidence ArikaB, but I would like to get a couple more challenges under my belt before I will feel worthy of running with the advanced crowd.)

LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: 25 Halcyone Bay Island, Isla Paradiso, Size: 10 X 10, Final Cost: 39,359

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: For this house I took the mini part pretty seriously. When I first looked at this I thought it would be fairly easy, but that was before I found out how small a 10 by 10 lot actually is. Even though we could make our houses as many stories as we desired, I really struggled with making it look wide enough to justify the height so in the end I made it only two stories on a foundation. However this of course led to the space crunch so I was forced to really think about how much stuff I needed to fit in there. In the end this was good for me because when I think vacation homes I think little cabins on the beach with sandy furniture and not a lot of clutter because to get clutter you’d have to spend a lot of time there, or you’d (hopefully) pick up before you leave. While this house isn't strictly something I'd call a cabin it has the same rational behind the interior decorating with plants you'd bring with you or flowers you could pick while there, and things like paper towels and tissues that you'd only miss if they were gone. The kitchen is the bare minimum, but it is functional and the bathroom is barely more than a broom closet. To me the point of a vacation home is to have somewhere to sleep and maybe relax in-between enjoying the local area you are visiting. It’s not meant to be this oasis you never want to leave, but just a place to stay. To that extent I included the four porches so time can be spent outside as much as possible, except of course in the case of Lilith for who I included a personal toy-box under her bed. Also I avoided putting a computer so Mary-Sue couldn’t work from home even if she wanted too because it is vacation after all. Sorry for the long description, but this build wasn’t that straight forward at least for me anyway and I just wanted to fully explain my rational for some of the more questionable aspects of this design.

As a side note the island I chose to place my lot on was previously unoccupied so I saw fit to name it Halcyone (Hal-Sea-Own) Bay. Halcyone was the name of a heroine in a Greek myth who threw herself into the sea when her husband drowned. The Gods took pity on her and turned her into a pair of Kingfishers or Halcyons and then forbade the wind to blow for seven days before and after the winter solstice, the breeding season of the Halcyon. Therefore the name has come to figuratively mean, a time of peace and tranquility. So when I stumbled across this story I thought it would make a great name for my island, since it embodied everything I would want in a vacation. (Peace and tranquility, not the throwing myself in the ocean part of course) I also took the liberty to place a couple of other houses on the island and add some foliage curtsey of the world editor tool because I thought my house looked at bit lonely and the island stark. This way I could also showcase the feel of the island by adding the pictures of the other houses to my media since that was one of the requirements. Hope you enjoy.

    LEVEL: Advanced

LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: 10 x 10, unknown, Hidden Springs, $39,112

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: This challenge was really interesting. my biggest challenge was the budget. I built several homes, but this one fits the family and the neighborhood. Hidden Springs tends to have a traditional feel and a modern home just wouldn't fit. So I went with a traditional home with 3 stories and a basement. This home boasts 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a living room, dining area, full kitchen and the basement boasts a family room and a small home gym. This home sits on Azure Lake Avenue on a hill overlooking the coast offering wonderful views.

    LEVEL: Intermediate

LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: 10 x 10, unknown, Roaring Heights, $37,339

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: This lot is built right by the beach with excellent views from the balcony and roof terrace. There is room underneath for a car and seating to have BBQs. The bedrooms are small but since most of them should be spending their time outdoors, this shouldn't matter. The lounge is large enough for the whole family and Lilith can use this area to play if she doesn't want to be outside.

mederouin - Love the girls room

gmcrozier - The outside is amazing! The 2 sidings really keep it from looking too tall for the space. The flowers outside are great too!
