Welcome to the first step in becoming an AWESOME photographer and editor in The Sims 3! You all have different reasons for wanting to learn these things, and I can't wait to get started!
In this competition, you will be learning all sorts of skills, including, but not limited to:
Pose Player usage
Basic editing
Filters & Effects
Lighting & Backgrounds (in-game)
Taking an outdoor shot
Hair Stock usage
Advanced editing
Pose creation
and more!
This competition is NON-ELIMINATION! You can't learn anything if you get kicked out, and it's not fair to judge one beginner as "better" or "worse" than another! You're all learning here!
Each assignment will consist of one tutorial you must follow to achieve the desired results. Keep in mind that these tutorials will be based on the way I myself have learned to do them. You may find after you complete the tutorial that you stumbled upon your own method of achieving the same result. This is fine, just make sure the results are the same!
Most of the tutorials will be created by me. Others, I will direct to you videos or documents that I found particularly useful.
We will be using either Photoshop or GIMP. If you've already got Photoshop, you don't need to do anything! If you need GIMP, you can find it here. I will mainly be using Photoshop, BUT I will include any differences for GIMP users, as I have both programs and am familiar with both.
This thread will be for entries and minor discussion amongst the mentors. If you have a question regarding the actual assigment, the contest, a tutorial, or anything else, please go here! There are already a couple questions up, so go check them out!
So without further ado, let's get started!
oIf you have a planned absence, please let me know on the Q&A page (linked above) or on Q9 of the survey.
oYou CAN ask for extra time, but please do not take advantage of this! I will be keeping track, and if I see you're consistently asking for more time, I may have to ask you to leave. I really don't want to do that, but we can't hold everyone up or this will get boring very quickly.
oNo questions allowed on this thread. The reason for this is so everyone can keep track of all questions in one place so they do not get lost in a sea of entries and other questions. Please ask on the Q&A page! You CAN make comments on others' work, just no questions or negativity! There's no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to this comp!

Assignment 2: Lighting, Pose Player, Cheats, + Camera Commands

REQUIREMENTS
ONE photo
MUST include YOUR CHOSEN MODEL
MUST be a STANDING POSE
MUST be on a BLACK BACKGROUND
(Your submission, not written word) MUST indicate understanding of:
oLighting
oPose Player
oCheats
oCamera Commands
MUST include your model's name when you submit the image (not ON the image, but IN the POST)
On a scale of 1-5, 1 being you did not do anything you were supposed to and 5 being you did it all, you will be graded on how well you:
1. Followed the requirements!
2. Indicated understanding of the tutorial subjects!
3. Carry one lesson to the next! If you are learning how to take outdoor shots and have already learned how to get rid of jagged edges, we do not want to see you abandon your old lessons and forget what you've previously learned! You must stack each lesson on top of the next!

I know we aren't supposed to ask questions here, but I'm just going to quickly ask this, since it will all be deleted soon anyway.. Can I use a sim from my legacy? It will make it easier for me, learning from them, since I'll be using the skills learnt on them anyway! Thanks again!

I made this sim earlier to go with the EA world set in the roaring 20's. I know she wasn't born until 1926, but I couldn't resist making her. For those of you who don't know, this is Marilyn Monroe by her true name..

I'd love to apply for mentor but I only started modelling early this year, so I don't think I'm as good of a candidate as some of our more experienced members. good luck to everyone tho
I recognize the both of you and think your work is top notch! I think if you've been modelling for a while or not for so long but the comments in your contest photos from the judges aren't always revolving around "poor quality" "bad lighting" and so on and so forth, you're just fine as a candidate for mentoring.

Like munchkinprincess, I have been taking photographs for a long time and very familiar with the pose player. I am very new to editing and really want to learn more. I can do the basics but just recently learned that through trial and error lol.
