Over the river and through the woods
To Grandmother’s house we go
The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh
Through white and drifted snow
Over the river and through the woods
Oh, how the wind does blow!
It stings the toes and bites the nose
As over the ground we go.
Eva Kringle has to be one of the most spirited clients you've ever met. Ambitious, too. As the mother of three and grandmother of five, the holidays can be a busy time in the Kringle household.
This past year, Eva lost her husband, but she refuses to let that dampen her family's enjoyment of the season. With her husband's death, however, Eva decided she would like to be a little closer to the kids, who have by some miracle all now clustered in the beautiful Sunset Valley.
While she is willing to move across the country, Eva admits that she is not willing to give up her beautiful home that was designed by her and her late husband. She has asked that in preparation for the holidays, you rebuild her home following their floorplans (with a few minor tweaks for Eva's ever-growing family, of course!).
To honor the holiday she loves so much, Eva has asked that the interior be decorated in the colors of her favorite holiday, Christmas. She came to your office dressed in red, gold, and green, and you figure that would be a nice scheme to work into the home. While she said you could furnish the home or not, she would like all of the fixed furnishings like sinks and toilets included in the final build. Her other tough request? Six bedrooms: 1 bedroom for her, 1 room for a couple with toddler, 2 rooms for couples, 1 room for 2 girls, and 1 room for 2 boys. That should be enough to house her and the family she loves. She's hoping for lots of visits with the move closer to her family!
Before leaving your office, Eva gave you a copy of her floorplan with a few notes on changes she would like made to her new home.
Special instructions for the beginner and intermediate builders:
Basement storage area becomes bedroom
Add additional bedroom to basement somewhere in the open area
Nook serves as informal eating area
Modify bathroom access to allow door to each bedroom (BR 2 and 3), in addition to the hall
Intermediate builders: Try to keep the patio access in the “basement” to the outdoors. Beginners may skip this requirement.
Special instructions for advanced builders:
Library becomes grandmother’s room.
Dining room becomes bedroom
Living room becomes dining room (can switch kitchen appliances around a bit to accommodate access to this room)
Please adjust bathrooms as needed to address bedrooms on this floor. Grandmother’s bathroom should be attached to her room.
Master Bedroom on 2nd floor becomes rec room
Optional Challenges, for all builder levels:
1. Decorate Eva's home.
2. Create Eva's children and grandchildren.
3. Create a story showing Eva and her family in her new home.

The first ever Sims International Film Festival is coming our way.
Ever since the new Sunset Valley International Airport has been built not only have the local Sims been travelling and adventuring far and wide, but it has brought an influx of adventurers and other rich and famous types to town. It seems that our local Sims are creating quite a bit of interest out there with our adventerous spirit and friendly disposition. The world is curious to see the place we call home. Business is booming and the arts, culture and restaurant industries are reporting all time highs. Sunset Valley is quickly becoming a popular resort town and vacation spot for these cultured travellers who have taken to affectionately call our town the Sunset Coast.
Over at Simatography Studios a group of artistic directors have decided to take advantage of this growth and are in the planning stages of hosting the first ever Sims International Film Festival right here in Sunset Valley.
Minraed, SuperPogimon, Crescent Moon Pye, Mmyoko, and IdaNoReally need your help!
One of the most important items on the planning agenda is to bulid the perfect venue to house the official home base for the festival, and available year round for all types of machinima and other cultural events.
The venue will be named Simulated Pictures International or SPI for short and will house the following:
1. Lobby
2. Red Carpet area
3. Grand Ballroom (with adjacent kitchen) - for dinner, dancing, reception and the like.
4. Conference rooms
5. Exhibition Hall
6. Main Theater/Auditorium
7. Admin office (small office of 3 x 3 module with attached toilet is OK)
8. Public toilets for male and female
9. Parking spaces for 6-8 cars
10. Mini theater - a small room like a home theater for screening machinimas
11. A small fashion stage for photographing the stars and other fashionable attendees
. . .
Some notes: This challenge was brought to you by Sims International Film Festival hosted by the folks over atSimatography. Help out our talented machinima makers and simatographers by building them the perfect venue!

“…I found myself in New York, near 300 miles from my home, a boy of but 17, without the least recommendation to, or knowledge of any person in the place, and with very little money in my pocket.”
Benjamin Franklin, The Autobiography
The “rags-to-riches” myth is a core story in many cultures. When he left his hometown of Boston, the young Benjamin Franklin arrived in New York “fatigued with travel, rowing, and want of rest.” He writes, “I was very hungry; and my whole stock of cash consisted of a Dutch dollar, and a about a shilling in copper.” But by the end of his life, Franklin’s name was one known around the world as a printer, scientist, writer, and diplomat. Through hard work, and his famous plan for “Arriving at Moral Perfection,” Franklin was one of America’s first self-made men.
Over the next two weeks, you will create a sim to reach this purpose…to start with nearly nothing and to rise slowly through his/her own stubborn effort day in and day out.
This challenge consists of two builds. The first is a legacy home. If you are unfamiliar with the Legacy Challenge, please check out Pinstar’s AMAZING challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/39862.page. If you enjoy your work this week, you should definitely give the Legacy Challenge a try. You might even use your sim from this week as your founder!
The legacy home should be built immediately and will be the only lot your sim will ever live on (at least during the course of our challenge). It should be built on a 60x60 lot at either 15 Summer Hill Court for Sunset Valley or 345 Riverblossom Drive in Riverview, per Pinstar's requirements. With the home built, the total cost must not exceed 16K, the amount given a single starting sim in Sims 3. This leaves you about $1300 to build your home. This is not much, but it can be done! At the very least, for our purposes, you must include the following: a bed, a fridge, and a toilet. I would also strongly suggest an indoor light for your sim’s happiness. It won’t be beautiful, but it will be livable, and that’s what you’re looking for right now.
Next, create your sim. You can assign attributes any way you wish. Move your sim in and upload the occupied lot to the Exchange. Please link this lot here so we can rec it.
Over the next two weeks, work to achieve your sim’s dream. Because this is a building challenge, work to create the best home you can with all the money your sim gains by natural means (NO CHEATS ALLOWED!). You may not restart if something bad happens (ie. getting fired) unless the sim dies. You may move in a sim through marriage. No moving people in and out for money. Once they are there, they will stay in the home until their NATURAL death.
At the end of the two weeks, upload your home and family to the Exchange. On your official entry form, please include links to the original starter and your “final” legacy home. Please note the age of your founding sim, or if he or she has passed on (if you’ve played a bit more and he/she died of natural causes), note the sim’s age at death AND how many days passed since that time. Additionally, please include the household value at the time of upload. The purpose of this is to gain a point of comparison amongst the entries to see whose sim has made it the farthest, achieving the rags-to-riches dream!
Winners: The legacy starters will be judged by our three level judges. The final legacy homes will be voted on by the Builders’ Boulevard community on the Yahoo! Group. The “winner” of the challenge itself will be the simmer whose sim has made the most gains. If there is a large disparity in time played, we may create categories to allow for a bit more fairness in the polls.
Addict
Additional Challenges:
Document the development of your legacy home with a story. ***HIGHLY ENCOURAGED!***
Share the story of your sim’s success.
Create homes for any of your sim’s offspring.
(Be sure to share links to these creations as well so we can rec them!)
I love my job. There is never a dull moment. Not only do I get to earn a living doing what I love, I also get to meet the most interesting people.
While I was locking up the office today, I heard the sound of a moped pull up. When I looked up to see who it was, I saw a frazzled-looking young woman attempting to untangle her poofy white wedding dress from the moped so she could dismount. A tiara barely hung from her head. After freeing herself, she jogged up to me and introduced herself.
Princess Aquafina told me of her tale and how she was forced by her parents to marry a man she did not love. As much as she objected, her parents would not hear of it and vowed to disown her if she did not marry Prince Desani. On her wedding day, instead of walking down that aisle, she found a way to escape and never looked back.
She placed her future in my hands when she yanked her tiara off her head and told me she wanted to find her own happily ever after.
The tiara was worth approximately 200k simoleans and Princess Aquafina wanted something quaint, so nothing larger than a 40x40 lot. The princess told me she loved the outdoors, so a nicely landscaped garden was a must. As for the house itself, she wasn’t too specific. Besides needing at least 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, she said she just wanted an art studio and a basement. The princess wasn’t very keen on finding a desk job, so she planned on supporting herself through painting and adventuring.
This project seemed simple and straightforward enough. The only question is whether or not I will be able to please a picky princess.
Optional/Additional Challenge:
Create Princess Aquafina and help her find her happily ever after.

The assignment: Create a lot that embodies the "spirit" of this person (what they're like, what they love, what you think of when you think of them, etc.)
Rationale: I wanted something to recognize all the heroes in our lives, not just those fantasy guys with capes (though you can make one of those if you prefer). With Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday this week, all of the heroism taking place daily in Haiti, and the recent loss of two of my personal heroes, it seemed like an appropriate time.
Budget: Have at it! (Not something you'll often hear from the lover of starters )
Create a lot for your hero. Maybe create your hero, too, if you get into it. And as always, the English teacher in me would love a few good stories.
It is that time again! Time to let your style truly shine and compete in the Winter Designer Showdown!

Let's take a journey back in time. A journey back to when things were simple, when our daily schedule included lunch time, recess, nap time, and snack time.
Let's go way back...to elementary school.
I miss the days when back to school meant shopping for scissors, crayons, and glue. I miss the days when I spent hours covering shoe boxes with colored tissue paper an construction paper hearts.
Therefore, I declare this week
Arts & Crafts Week
at Build-n-Share!
For this week's assignment, your job is to create the prettiest darn Valentine's day "mailbox" you can create.
For those unfamiliar with this tradition, here's an example of a classic mailbox using the popular kids' show Dora the Explorer.
1. Use a combination of regular walls and half walls to create a variety of levels, bands, and other decorative effects.
2. Consider alternative building materials like fences, windows, flowers, and more.
Side challenge:
Create valentines for your fellow Build-n-Share members using screenshots of your favorite sim couple, rose garden, etc. Share these on the photo thread, at Builders' Boulevard, or through a story on the site here.

For those that don't know, I am Chinese-American. "Made in Taiwan," I moved to the United States when I was 7. For us, the biggest holiday of the year is always Chinese New Year.
Every year, Chinese New Year falls on a different date since it goes by the lunar calendar. This year, it just happens to fall on the same date as Valentine's Day! Since Addict already had you guys do a fun little Valentine's Day project, I thought this week would be the perfect week for a little Chinese New Year decorating project!
This week, you are to take one of your existing builds, whichever one you are most comfortable with, and spruce it up and redecorate it for Chinese New Year festivities. It can be a small house or a big community park that you've built - whatever you are comfortable with and have the time to do!
When you are finished with your required media, choose one picture that you feel best captures what you've built and post it with your official entry form. Just make sure it is sized correctly and doesn't break the formatting of the page!
CC is allowed as long as you credit them appropriately and WA is not needed for this challenge! If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask.
Pulling up to the large green lot, you are greeted by an impressing looking group. Seeing their matching track suits, no one can doubt this is a group of serious athletes.
You reach for the door only to find it’s being opened for you.
“Hi, I’m Elanora,” the pretty girl in yellow chirps. “Thank you so much for coming today.”
“We’re so glad you could come to meet us here,” the guy in blue chimes in. “We wanted you to see the lot in its natural beauty. We hope to preserve a lot of that green with this build.”
“Don’t worry about the other kind of green,” the guy in green appropriately continues. “After the debacle with cost of the other village, we’ve decided not to set a budget. That way we won’t be ridiculed if it goes way over.”
The girl in red grits her teeth at the mention of the budget, but she continues smiling.
“So you want your own Olympic village, basically?” you finally get a word in.
“Exactly!” Elanora is back in action. “We brought this picture to show you how we’d like the main building to look. It’s the Italian athletes’ building in Vancouver.”
You take the picture and give it an approving look. Then you pause.
“Wait, the main building?”
“Oh, yes.” The guy in green picks up the conversation. “We’re quite ambitious with this project!”
“So how many buildings will there be in total?” you ask, trying to remain calm.
“Three,” the girl in red replies. “We’d like a main apartment building, kind of like the picture you’re holding.”
“You can use orange as the accent,” Elanora is back in, “but we’re open to another color or colors if you think it would work better.”
“The other two buildings,” the girl picks up right where she left off, (you reflect these athletes are difficult to keep up with more reasons than just the speed of their gait) “are for recreation. So there’s an apartment building, a wellness building, and we’d like a ‘Living Room,’ kind of like the concept we’ve read about from the actual Olympic Village in Vancouver.”
“From what I’ve read,” she continues, “The Living Room is like a big family room and rec room all in one. We’d like a place to gather, watch all the big games, and play some games, too. In this building we’d also like a coffee lounge area and a little internet 'café' with a full kitchen so we can make meals here, too.”
“The wellness center building,” the girl in black has joined the conversation, “should include workout options, including a pool. We’ve also read that they have a meditation room with a fireplace in Vancouver. We’d like one of those in this building as well, if possible.”
“OK, so you want your lot to be like an actual little mini-city village? I think I can manage that. What would you like for the actual apartment building?” you ask.
“Well,” Elanora seems to be most set on a ‘vision’ of this aspect of the build, “we’d like the exterior to look like that picture. We also want 8 apartments inside that all have their own entrance from a common lobby-like area. We want the center of the build open inside kind of like a two-story mall, where you can look down from one floor to the floor below. The center area should still be covered by a roof, but we’d like it donut-like inside. In the center of the donut we’d like a glass tower with stairs to access the rest of the floors … four stories total. From this tower would radiate little paths to the doors of each of the apartments. There are five of us, but we’d like eight apartments, in case we meet other similarly-minded friends.”
“Who might help with the bills!” the girl in red is in again.
“Yes,” Elanora dismisses her. "Each apartment unit should be two stories, and we’d like the second story in each one to include a loft area that looks down on the first story. Each will need a kitchen, living room, and bath. You can add more as you see fit.”
“How about colors?” you’re trying to visualize the overall look.
“We’d like mostly white walls, but in each of the five apartments we’ll live in, we’d like one wall in each room or area to have a splash of our favorite colors, with which you’re probably familiar. They are the colors of the Olympic rings and the colors we are wearing! So in my bedroom, for example, I’d like three white walls and one yellow wall!” she finishes.
“And you’d like it decorated and furnished as well, you mentioned. Any particular style?”
“Definitely modern throughout all three buildings,” the girl in black fills in. “We’d like them to have clean modern lines, wooden floors, and luxurious furnishings. The colors in the other two buildings are totally up to you.”
“And I have one last request,” the guy in blue seems a little embarrassed. “One of the things we really like about the Olympic village, again, is that it’s green…environmentally sound. We don’t really want any trees on the roof like they have there, but we’d like to maintain some green between the area that connects the buildings. We’d like it less florally but a more clean, modern green look. I have another picture to show you the concept, though it doesn’t have to look exactly like this:
“Finally, the Village has wooden bike paths connecting everything. We’d like to keep this bike-friendly as well, so we were hoping you might also find a place at each building where some bikes can be easily parked while we are inside.”
“So you want this all in a week, right?” You try to hide the absolute terror from creeping into your voice.
“Oh no,” the guy in green laughs. “You have a whopping TWO weeks for the project.”
You have to laugh at that. Two week, huh? “I’ll see what I can do!”
Katy and Rich have just purchased their first place together after getting engaged. The house isn’t ideal, but they have dreams of taking their savings and fixing up the place to their liking. Hoping to start a family soon after they wed, they would like to ultimately turn this 2 bedroom / 1 bath “shotgun” into a 3 bedroom / 2 bathroom family home with a 2-car garage. What they loved about the house is the spacious backyard and they can imagine having their dream wedding right in their very first place together. However, with renovation expenses, they won’t have much to spend on their wedding.
They have set aside 10,000 simoleans to spruce up their yard and their perfect wedding and another 40,000 simoleans to renovate their new house. Your challenge (should you choose to accept) is to help them plan and set up their dream wedding and have Richard carry Katy over the threshold of their renovated house.
Please note that this is an original EA starter called the "Shotgun Style" house in Sunset Valley, so it wasn't built by me. Go nuts and knock down as many walls and add anything the budget and lot size allows. The lot size is 30x40 and shouldn't be any larger.
This couple is loosely based on some friends of mine and I hope to direct them to some of your media so make sure you have some really nice pictures to show off!

Organized: The word comes immediately to mind when you open Ms. Lucky’s email. Lucky, who recently won the lottery, explains in her note that she would like to spend part of her earnings on a free community daycare for toddlers, children, and teens. With an unlimited budget, the possibilities are pretty much limitless, but Ms. Lucky does have a specific vision in mind.
You review the list again:
Three main rooms (one for babies and toddlers, one for children, and one for teens)
Each of the three main rooms should have an area for eating, learning, playing, and relaxing.
The baby/toddler room should also have cribs and an attached baby-friendly bathroom.
Both the children and teens’ rooms should have a study and reading area.
There should be a kitchen in which the meals for all three levels are made.
There should be two common restrooms for the children and teens, one for males and one for females.
There should be two single-person restrooms, one for male and one for female staff members.
A director’s office with a small, attached waiting room should be located close to the front entry.
A small staff room should also be included for lunch and breaks.
At the back of the building, there should be a large playground with swings, a couple of jungle gyms, art tables, chess, and a large sandbox.
The playground should also include a covered picnic shelter with picnic tables.
There should be a large pool area with two pools: one for the children and teens, and one for the toddlers.
The pool area should also include restrooms and 2 outdoor showers for students to rinse off the pool chemicals after they swim.
The pool area should be inside the playground and have its own fence.
The entire playground should also have an additional fence.
At the bottom, Lucky includes one final note:
“I am still deciding about a name for the daycare. I will base it on the color scheme you decide. Please (primarily) use colors from one of the following options:
Option 1:
Dark green, light green, white, gold, and black (also optional in this scheme: sky blue)
Option 2:
Colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, purple) and white
Ms. Lucky would like the build complete by Wednesday, March 24.
It's been awhile since you built a community lot. Time to get started!
Optional challenges:
1. Create Ms. Lucky and some of the lucky students who will attend her center.
2. Create a promotional "brochure" for the center. Provide a name for the new daycare and really sell Ms. Lucky's daycare program. Ms. Lucky isn't looking for a profit, but she doesn't want your beautiful new daycare to go to waste. Time to recruit some clients!
After reading the latest interview with Grant Rodiek about the upcoming expansion pack this summer, Ambitions, I became really excited at the new gameplay features and thought it would also make a perfect building challenge now in preparation for the new expansion pack.
With the tools we have now, you can choose to build one of the following this week.
Fire Station - Try to build the most convincing fire station you can for your future firefighting hero.
Salon - Try to build a salon for your future stylist. Think lots of mirrors and spa-like amenities.
Art Studio - Try to build an art studio for your future tattoo artist or sculptor. Be creative with clutter!
Doctor's Office - You can either build a big hospital or just a small private practice office. Just make it look sterile!
Some notes:
There are no budget or lot size limitations this week. You should choose to build whatever size you have time for. The key here is to make your screenshots look as authentic as possible. Everyone should be able to tell what you're building just by taking one look at your structure or your interiors.
When I was younger, my nana used to tell me "bunny stories" each night as I fell asleep. I don't remember them well, but I remember her hushed tones, the tree they lived under, and the adventures they had in the woods near their home.
It was not until much later that I realized these tales took root in so many childhood stories like fairytales, and especially, the work of Beatrix Potter.
With spring in the air here where I live, I am reminded of those stories from my childhood. What better way to celebrate than with a famous setting from one of Potter's own works, Peter Rabbit?
This week, you will create Mr. McGregor's farm.
Located just off the lane and next to the woods, Mr. McGregor's farm was quite the temptation for Peter and his siblings. The garden, with its fill of vegetables like lettuce, beans, radishes, cucumbers, cabbages, potatoes, and onions were more than this little rabbit could bear.
One day, like his father before him, Peter was caught by old Mr. McGregor. Luckily he escaped before meeting his father's fate, but not before he snagged his coat on the fence. The coat was later used on a scarecrow McGregor used to keep out the pests.
Despite being a grump, I imagine Mr. McGregor himself kept a charming home and garden. A home you will build this week. Try to include details from the story in your build. For help, you can find the story of Peter here: http://www.best-childrens-books.com/the-tale-of-peter-rabbit.html .
For the build, keep the look soft and storybook-like. You might also look at some of Potter's own illustrations for inspiration. A nice website to start is located here: http://www.peterrabbit.com/uk/.
Optional challenges:
1. For those with a little more time, create the setting of the whole story (on one lot) including the "tree" home where Peter lives with his family.
Please help our family out! My husband recently lost his job due to a corporate downsize and we can no longer afford to live in our lovely home. It is a lavish 4-bedroom, 4 bathroom, spacious home with plenty of room for our growing family. I am a stay-at-home mom, raising my 2 kids (girls), who are also used to living a lavish lifestyle and having plenty of toys. I am also carrying our 3rd child.
While my husband tries to get back on his feet, we need to find a new home with our low starter budget of 20,000 simoleans. We have looked at some of the existing starters around the neighborhood and none of them “felt like home.” Maybe we just have picky taste and are used to finer finishes, but we are hoping to find a good home that we can still feel comfortable in without feeling cramped.
We hope to have at least 3 bedrooms and at least 1.5 bathrooms. While I know we can’t hope for a huge yard like what we have currently, I would like to have at least a small area where I can still garden and a small play area for the kids.
In the main living space, we like having neutral colors and an open floorplan. My girls’ favorite colors are orange and pink and both my husband and I are fond of blues.
I know this is asking a lot and it will be very difficult on our tight budget, but we have heard you can practically work miracles with your building skills. We hope you can help us get through these tough times!
Downsized and stressed,
The Johnsons
...
Optional Challenge:
Create the family and take screenshots of them living in the home you built.
Some notes:
Budget challenges can be very tough. For some tips and tricks on how to maximize your budget, I highly suggest you read up Addict's tutorials on how to pinch your simoleans!
You can tell the second she walks through the door this client is not from Sunset Valley. Raine is quite businesslike as she sticks out her hand, but avoids your eyes.
“Thank you for meeting me today. I’m driving back to the city tonight. I just want to make sure that the timeline is OK. You said you can have my loft ready in a week? I figured things would move slower out here, not faster,” she smiles a little at the apparent joke.
“Yep, we usually make pretty quick work of things. I promise it will be ready.”
“Wonderful. Well, as I mentioned on the phone, I’d really like to capture the feel of the city. I think it will take some adjustment getting used to things around here, and some familiarity would be nice. I’d like a kind of industrial look: lots of brick and stainless steel. And I definitely want high ceilings with large windows.”
“How about number of rooms, or any other special requests on size?”
“Nothing too big. I don’t plan on having children, and I’m not sure I’ll ever settle down, either, so I don’t need a lot of extra room for future growth. I would like a separate room for an art studio, though. Some place to throw the paint at my canvas, you know? It’s nice to just be able to close the door in the rare case I have a visitor.”
“I’m also hoping for modern appliances and nice conveniences like a dishwasher and microwave. I like to spend most of my energy on my art, not on pesky things like cleaning or cooking. I would like the place to be well appointed with art, but not so much I won’t have a place to hang some of my own pieces as well. I don’t need much for exterior; I spend most of my time inside, so I’d rather spend the extra cash there. Not a huge fan of flowers and such.”
“This will be a different assignment for me. I’m looking forward to it. You said your budget is 40,000? That should be enough, I think.”
“Good then. Well,” Raine looks at her watch, “I think I should probably start heading back. Thanks again for your time.”
“I’ll see you next week,” you say as she quickly strides out the door.
Optional challenges:
1.) Create Raine. Her traits are the following: Loner, Heavy Sleeper, Hates the Outdoors, Artistic, Dislikes Children. Favorites: Black, Indie, Yogurt Parfait.
2.) Decorate the apartment with works created by Raine.
3.) Write a story about Raine’s beginnings in Sunset Valley and her transition from the city life.

There are two things in life Lawrence 🐸🐸🐸🐸 is very fond of … fast cars and fast women. Having concentrated on his career most of his life thus far, he makes quite a good income to maintain his fast-paced bachelor lifestyle.
The only thing missing now is the perfect pad for his collection of cars. Preferring a more simple and easier to maintain house, he has had issues finding a smaller property with a garage to accommodate his precious vehicles, especially in the big city.
This is why he has hired you.
Your assignment is to build Lawrence his ideal home – a structure on a 30x30 lot which will house him and his 6 cars. Please keep in mind that he wishes to protect all of his cars from whatever elements out there, so they must be in a secure garage with no carports.
Lawrence’s style is “contemporary comfortable.” He doesn’t need a living space too large, but requests at least 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, an office, and a big media room. He prefers to have mainly neutral colors … nothing too colorful.
You have a generous budget of 150,000 simoleans (not including cars).
Some notes:
The challenge here is to make a structure that isn't hideous with a garage big enough to fit 6 cars on a 30x30 lot. The garage needs to be somewhat realistic, meaning even if you can fit 6 spaces in a large room, there should still be at least 3 garage doors so the cars can realistically get out.
Optional Challenge:
Create Lawrence as a sim. Based on what has been described, come up with the best traits, aspiration, outfits, etc. and take screenshots of him in his new space.

Optional challenge:
Host a shower or garden party at April's Showers and May's Flowers. Capture the event in a story. Careful story construction could also serve as your media for the entry, showing off the beautiful shops.

There was still a tingle from your spine as you sat there, a bit dazed. Your latest "clients" had just left (poofed!) and you were still trying to get your thoughts in order.
They had drifted through the walls just as you were wrapping up your day. The sudden appearance of 6 ghosts (2 blue, 2 orange, 1 purple, and 1 yellow) was so unnerving, you didn't even remember to scream.
After you were assured that they were of no harm, your ghostly visitors quickly got to the point. Apparently, Sunset Valley cemetery was overflowing with ghosts and discontented ghosts have been on a search for a new place, less crowded, to "rest."
Who were they going to call? Definitely not the Ghostbusters... so they came to you!
Some notes:
Yes, you are to build a cemetery/graveyard! It should be no larger than a 40x40 lot size and your budget is unlimited. You will probably need to use the buydebug cheat in order to access a lot of the goodies. To access buydebug mode, you will need to open up the cheat console by pressing ctrl+shift+C at the same time. Enter "testingcheatenabled true" and hit return/enter. Then go into buy/build mode and open up cheat console again and type in "buydebug." You should then see a question mark as a category where you can access a lot of objects.
You can make the cemetery as spooky or unspooky as you want.
CC is allowed, but as always, please list/credit them in your entry form.
Optional Challenge:
Create the above referenced ghosts! You must have 2 blue ghosts, 2 orange ghosts, 1 purple ghost, and 1 yellow). Your media should then show pictures of them haunting their new home.
A 50-something woman sporting walking shorts and a cap walks through the door, beaming from ear-to-ear. This must be Sara Summers, the director of the new Happy Hills summer camp being advertised all over town. Today, however, the pitch will come from you as you work to become the chief landscaper, architect and designer for the camp.
Sara shakes your hand before taking a seat. Though it's only May, she seems to have a tan already. You think to yourself how glad you are you wore long sleeves today.
"I am so glad to hear of your interest in the project," she begins. "It is an undertaking with four different lots, I know, but Summer HIll just offers so many opportunities."
"So let me be sure I'm correct. You mentioned a girls' camp, boys' camp, pond for watersports and fishing, and an ampitheater. Those are the four you're referencing, correct?"
"Yep. The same. I'd like the pond on the middle lot, between the two camps to keep the boys and girls a little separated for most of the day-to-day activities. The end lot will serve as both an ampitheater for talent shows and common gatherings while also functioning as a social place for the occasional dance."
"How rustic are you thinking? They'll obviously know it's new."
"I'd like wooden structures with a somewhat lighter/brighter wood. Nothing too light, of course, as it will get dirty, but also nothing too dark, as I want it to remain cheery, too. I'd like the girls' camp primarily with deep blue accents and the boys' with dark greens."
"And what kind of structures would you like on each?"
"Well, for the two camps, I'd like at least three cabins: one for the younger children and one for the teens with another, smaller one with all of the amenities for each head counselor. Each of the campers' cabins should sleep 8. We'll also need a bath house, mess hall, and small clinic on each, too, of course."
"What about the pond area? Any plans for that?"
"I'd like a nice dock area. And maybe some seating to watch the events. That lot should have its own restroom and a couple of showers for boys and another couple of showers for girls. For the ampitheater lot, I'd like the open-air theater, of course, but I'd like the area around it to be a little wooded. Maybe with a little trail or something? It will need its own restroom as well, as we'll host events there. An area with picnic tables and some grills would be great, too. And it will definitely need to have great lighting for nighttime events."
"It sounds like the kids will have a lot of fun! Any other requests?"
"Hmm. Well, this is probably the toughest part, but the Summer Hill area is just so FLAT. I'd really like it if the camp could have a little more character with some small hills and a real woodsy feel. It shouldn't just feel like the valley but instead like the kids are really getting away. The only other thing is I'd really like all four lots to blend. They shouldn't look the same, but you should be able to tell they go together through similar building materials like the woods you use. I hope that's not too much?"
"I'm confident we can do it. You're giving us a little extra time, so that should definitely help!"
"As far as budget, I'll sock whatever I need to into the landscaping, terraforming, and all of that. The camp should be nice, but rustic. They should not feel like they're at The Ritz or something, so adequate and nice, but not too over-the-top on luxuries and furnishings would be nice, too."
“Wonderful. Well, I think I’m all set. Please let us know if you think of anything else.”
Ms. Summers stands, shakes your hand, and walks out.
***Obviously, this is a big one. You have three weeks this time. Additionally, you may, but do not have to, work with a partner or group. Feel free to advertise here for group members if you’d like. We will probably vote for winners for this one on Builders’ Boulevard, so make sure you really work hard on your media. This will be due the weekAFTER the builds must be submitted. You can use photos or video to promote your camp.***
Additional Challenges:
Rather than providing a different challenge this week, for those who finish early, I’d like to recommend you check out Tota’s TOTA-LLY AWESOME neighborhood project on Builders’ Boulevard. We could really use some extra hands to make that project great as well!
This week's challenge is going to be nice and simple since many of you are still trying to finish up your summer camps and getting your media in by next Wednesday.
Many of us like to get inspiration from house plan sites. It's a good way to practice building. This week, I have found a plan and should you choose to accept this challenge, your task is to replicate the plan below as best as you can.
Please see the picture at the official link
Since everyone has the same floorplan to work off of, the challenge here really is to see how creative you can be with your exterior design as well as establishing a unique style that will make your house stand out from everyone else's. Roofing is going to be important along with adding some interesting architectural details. Not only should your interiors be impeccable, your house should have plenty of curb appeal and gorgeous/appropriate landscaping.
Some notes:
* You have a budget of 50k simoleans to work with.
* The house should be built on a lot no larger than 30x30.
* The house scale should be somewhat proportionate. This isn't a large house, so please pay attention to room sizes.
* You can choose to ignore the closets if you like since closets aren't imperative in sim houses.
* You may build out a back porch if you like, but no other rooms should be added to the house.
* You may also build a garage or carport, but it cannot be connected to the house.
* When submitting your media, please make sure to have at least 1 screenshot of the overall floorplan of the house.
Bret and Shelly Ottenburg and their two kids Hallie and Ginny are all a very fun-loving outdoorsy family. They love going on adventures together and spending as much time as possible outside. Bret grew up hunting and fishing with his dad and has passed the love on to his two daughters. They wish to have a home on a lake (pond) so they can just step outside their door and fish any time they like. Bret has written us a letter asking for our help in making their dream come true.
Here are his specifics:
~Build a cabin big enough for 4 people, but not too big for the lot.
~It should look and feel rustic with lots of wood and earth tones.
~Create a lake-pond where the family can fish.
~There should be plenty of greenery, a dock, and make the area look and feel as if it is in the woods (not completely flat land and some trees).
~Budget is $65k simoleons
Optional Challenge:
Create the Ottenburg family: Bret, Shelly, Hallie & Ginny
Some Notes:
*The build, layout, and color scheme are all up to you as the builder.
*The pond should take up most of the property with the house nestled in the back
*The family members must all have "loves the outdoors" as one of their traits
The vuvuzelas can be heard from the parking lot. You look at your watch and realize you’re probably a few minutes early. You decide to proceed into the hive regardless.
The room is awash in primary colors; each fan sports the jersey of a favorite team.
Your client told you he would be easy to spot. Unfortunately, he is not the only enthusiastic fan in the bunch. Still you spot him: face painted, flag waving wildly --you feel a bit sorry for anyone sitting behind him-- color-coordinated down to his shoes and laces.
This is what soccer fandom is all about.
You sit down next to him, careful to avoid the flailing arms. Only added time remains, so you decide to sit quietly.
At the half, he high fives a friend and takes his seat. It’s at this point he notices you.
You’re greeted with a high five. You can’t help but smile.
“I’m so glad you agreed to meet me here. I hate to miss a game during the Cup,” he begins.
“No problem at all. I’m a bit of a fan myself.”
“Well, I won’t keep you stuck in here too long if you don't want. I’ve thought a bit more about some specifics like you suggested on the phone, and I think I have a pretty good idea of what I’d like now.”
“Yes,” you laugh, “I figured that though the large media room will undoubtedly be the coup de grace on your bachelor pad, you might have a few other considerations.”
He laughs, “Yeah. I get a little carried away sometimes when it comes to sports. I’ll start with the media room, of course. I’d like it on the first floor. I want it to feel open, but it should be enclosed with four walls to block out external light and noise. I’d like a bar in it, too, and it would be nice if a half-bath could be attached. I’ll need lots of seating, too. And hopefully a nice sound system?”
“That should be achievable.”
“OK, besides that, I’d also like a kitchen and dining area on the first floor. If there’s money, a separate seating area, besides the media room, would be nice. Outside, I’d really love a large covered patio with a grill and maybe even another TV!”
He smiles and looks embarrassed but keeps going.
“On the second floor, I’d like 3 bedrooms with double beds. The master should be a bit larger and have an attached bath. The other 2 bedrooms should share a bathroom. It can be attached or separate from them, whatever works best. Finally, if there’d be a little spot for a computer area, that would be great. It could be in the master bedroom or somewhere else...I don’t know...I’ll leave that to you!”
“I should be able to do that, I think,” you reply.
“Finally, I’d like the interior of the home to be decorated in my team’s colors***, if that’s OK. “
“I have some thoughts about that home developing in my mind. What do you think of a contemporary style home? Did you have a particular style in mind?”
“Not really. I’m not sure what that is, but it sounds cool and I trust you!”
You think to yourself it would be nice if everyone were so easy.
You pull out your phone and run a quick search on contemporary architecture and design and show it to him:
“Here’s a quick description. Don’t really pay much attention to that house at the top. I’m thinking more like the one in the descriptions below about modern finishes.”
“That looks cool! You think you could do something like that for $150,000?”
“I definitely think so.”
You notice the game is about to resume. You thank your client and let him know to call you if he has any other questions.
Meanwhile, you ask him if he’d mind if you stick around for the second half.
The sound of vuvuzelas resumes.
***This week’s challenge is labelled “national pride.” Pick the colors of your country to show off in this week’s build!
An additional note: The house does not have to look just like the one on the website linked. I just provided it for the description it gives of contemporary style. You may use the look of the house in the modern finishes section or any other contemporary build you find or dream up on your own.
Additional challenges:
1. Create our soccer fan and name him. Be sure to dress him in the colors of his country!
2. The client wants the build complete for next week so it will be ready for the final game. In a story, show him preparing for the game or hosting it (yes, I know it will be a little earlier than the final match, but that’s the beauty of Sims!)
This challenge was inspired by HGTV's Design Star. For those that follow this series, each season, there's a "white box challenge" that all of the designers have to compete in. Basically, this is the same thing. I took "The Monotone" from Sunset Valley, upgraded a few things, and changed everything to white.
Your challenge is to CAS it up! Get wild with the Create-a-Pattern tool. Show off your sense of style! This is how you would want to design it if you had to live there. You may add items to the rooms, but all existing objects must remain in the house. You can repurpose it however you like.
Some notes:
Your budget is not to exceed 50k simoleans.
You MUST reuse every single object already in the house.
This is an interior challenge only. No exterior work is needed.
When you take screenshots, make sure to take clear screenshots of your interior rooms.
No walls can be added or removed, but you can move around windows and doors if you would like.

This Week’s Challenge Specifics:

Extra Extra Read All about it!

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/152682.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/160006.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
A Builder’s Blog – January 13, 2010

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/163595.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
This week's theme: Your personal hero
Take care,
Addict

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/168093.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Let's take a journey back in time. A journey back to when things were simple, when our daily schedule included lunch time, recess, nap time, and snack time.
Let's go way back...to elementary school.
I miss the days when back to school meant shopping for scissors, crayons, and glue. I miss the days when I spent hours covering shoe boxes with colored tissue paper an construction paper hearts.
Therefore, I declare this week
Arts & Crafts Week
at Build-n-Share!
For this week's assignment, your job is to create the prettiest darn Valentine's day "mailbox" you can create.
For those unfamiliar with this tradition, here's an example of a classic mailbox using the popular kids' show Dora the Explorer.
http://www.nickjr.com/crafts/shoe-box-valentine-mailbox.jhtml
Some tips to consider:

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/170869.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!
If you would like to research a bit more about how Chinese New Year is celebrated, here is a nice article from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_New_Year
When you are finished with your required media, choose one picture that you feel best captures what you've built and post it with your official entry form. Just make sure it is sized correctly and doesn't break the formatting of the page!
CC is allowed as long as you credit them appropriately and WA is not needed for this challenge! If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask.
Have fun!

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/173492.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
All five beam as you walk back to your car.

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/178319.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
This message will self-destruct in one week!
Some notes: The household with house can be downloaded http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=2079972

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/180412.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/183675.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/186289.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
2. Still itching to build? You might try replicating Potter's own home. You can find several pictures here:

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/189156.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Dear Master Builder,
Please help our family out!

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/191395.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/193666.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/203033.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Spookerific!
BOO!

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/205412.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Hope you enjoy this week’s challenge.

Thread for this week’s challenge: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/216881.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
All According to Plan

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/220510.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
Fisherman's Cove

Thread for this week’s challenge:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/224613.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
You pull out your phone and run a quick search on contemporary architecture and design and show it to him:
http://www.dreamhomesource.com/contemporary/contemporary-house-
plans.hwx
In a story, show him preparing for the game or hosting it (yes, I know it will be a little earlier than the final match, but that’s the beauty of Sims!)

http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/228205.page
This Week’s Challenge Specifics:
The White Box Challenge

Have fun designing!
