Wilderness Hideout- Suspense Story updated 3/16/22

This story is based on the book by Hope White.
The roles have been reversed though, and the writing is my own as to not infringe copyright issues.
Storyline follows the book but has some changes.

This one's based on a book I just finished reading and thought it would make a good story for sims.
It was called "Wilderness Hideout" Only difference is I reversed roles, so the female is the rancher and the male is the scientist.


"Keep running you fool" Jacob thought as he made haste through the forest.
His head aching from a mix of dehydration and an adrenaline.He couldn't stop now,
not if he wanted to escape his attacker.He picked up the pace and continued to run
as quickly as his legs would carry him.


"DR Rush, please I just have to speak with you." The older gentleman called out.
Jacob didn't know who this man was. His only guess was that the man wanted his information
on his current research project. Jacob was a neuroscientist working for Cambridge University, his
current project: To find a natural cure for autoimmune disease. His guess was that this man worked
for a pharmaceutical company, seeking to stop Jacob and his research; if they had found a natural cure,
the market for medicines would plummet.


Jacob: I haven't the foggiest idea who you are.
Stranger: But I know you, and I do have one message for you Doctor Rush.


Stranger: Now to be rid of you once and for all.
The man dragged Jacob to the cliff, tossing him into the river below.
Stranger: Shouldn't be a bother no more.


"Are you okay? Come on wake up?" A voice called out to Jacob. HIs head
was throbbing and he could barely move. "Uh, what happened? Where am I?"
He said trying to sit up. "You nearly drowned, but its alright, your safe." Jacob slowly
rose, rubbing his eyes. Realizing he wasn't alone, he jumped to his feet, ready to defend
himself from what he thought was another attacker.


Jacob: I'm not giving you any of my information, so you can get away
from me.
Stranger: So that's how we say "Thanks" for pulling you out of the river.
Jacob: You....what?
Stranger: I'm Brianna.I pulled you out of the river, I heard you yelling and
ran to see what was going on.But I can very easily toss you back in.
Jacob: And you would enjoy doing that, wouldn't you.
Brianna: What are you rattling on about?


Jacob: Don't lie, I know you must be working with my attacker.
Why else would you want to help me?
Brianna: I dunno, maybe because I don't let people die, if I can help
it.
Jacob felt that Brianna was telling the truth, yet he didn't feel comfortable
with his rescuer. Why would someone be out here all alone?
Brianna: What happened?
Jacob: I was attacked...I think by someone who is after my research.
Brianna: Research?


Jacob: I'm a neuroscientist, studying natural cures for autoimmune
diseases.
Brianna: That sounds incredibly
Jacob: Boring? Yes I know, thanks for stating the obvious.
Brianna: You didn't let me finish, I was actually going to say interesting.
Jacob: That's a first most people find it boring.Ugh, my head feels like I been
hit by a train.
Brianna: You probably have a concussion, let me get you some ice.
Jacob: No thank you....I'll take care of myself.


Jacob knew he was out here doing research, but he wasn't remembering
what he had discovered...Was it the concussion that was causing his memory
loss? Perhaps he should receive medical attention, but he hadn't the time for
such nonsense.If someone was out to get him, he needed to protect his research.
Brianna: I tried 911 again, there is no cell service out here...Your best bet is to come in
to town and use a phone there...My home has a phone...you can call the authorities.



Jacob was hesitant to take up Brianna's offer. He still wasn't sure what
her motive was for helping him; but it seemed he had little choice. What
if she was telling the truth? Then he would be left out here alone with an
attacker.
Jacob: Alright...but just to use a phone...I'm not one for accepting help
Brianna: Why is that? You think you're too smart to receive help? Everyone
needs help once in a while.


Jacob ignored Brianna's words, as he hobbled toward the road where her
car packed. It was a quiet drive back to Meadow Glen, an area he had never
been to before. Questions were filling his head. Who was this girl? What was her
motive? What was it that he was on the brink of discovery? And how to get rid of
his attacker? The car came to an abrupt stop, which snapped Jacob back into reality.



Brianna led Jacob into the kitchen; where an elderly woman was busy
baking."Momma, I'm home." Sarah turned quickly to greet her daughter;
and quickly looked Jacob over. "Who is this?" Sarah asked curiously.
Brianna: This is Doctor Rush, with Cambridge Univeristy.He needs
a phone to call work; apparently got attacked in the mountains.
Sarah looked over again at her guest,trying to study him without being
too obvious."Of course, the phone is in the living room."


Jacob: Detective Harper? Its Jacob...
Harper: We were very worried! I have search teams out looking
for you.
Jacob: I was attacked down by the lake, by an older gentleman...Detective Harper,
this man tried to kill me.
Harper: He's probably after your research, Jacob.
Jacob: That's what I thought as well...I don't know what to do, but I'm
stranded out here.
Harper: Actually, its probably best if you lay low for a while, if you could find
shelter where you are, I'll start an investigation into this.
Jacob: Are you telling me not to come back? What about our presentation?
Harper: I will try to get that postponed, I think for now you best stay in hiding.

Jacob hung up the phone and sighed in annoyance. Not only did he have to
find somewhere to stay, he had to put his work on hold...It was going to be a long
stressful night for Jacob.


Brianna: Poor guy is all shook up.Not even a thank you.And he
accused me of wanting information.
Sarah: He's probably just afraid is all.You might want to check in
and make sure all is well.


Brianna: You look disturbed.
Jacob: I am disturbed....the police are going to start an investigation;
however I have to stay in hiding....I can't do that! I have work to do...whatever
it was...I can't even remember exactly what I was working on.
Brianna; Its probably your concussion, it will come back to you.Have faith..
Jacob: I don't believe in a higher power..
Brianna; That's alright, you can still have hope.
Mother says your more than welcomed to refugee here...
And before you say you don't accept help, my mother doesn't take no for
an answer.

Jacob sighed.Brianna was a difficult person to argue with.Part of Jacob
understood where she was coming from, though he blamed that on his
concussion; but another part was still questioning, why they would put
their safety in jeopody,to help him.


A pretty little girl came running into the living room, excited
and happy to see Brianna.
Miri: Brie! Brie! You're back.
Brianna: I sure am munchkin, how was school.
Miri: We made wooden animals today - hold up owl-
Brianna: Aww, you made an owl! That's so cute.
Jacob: Did you know owls have three eyelids?
Miri: No way! Really?!
Jacob: Yup, they have three to protect their eyes. The
upper and lower are normal. The third is to clean the eyes.
Miri: No way!! Daddy! -runs to tell her dad-
Brianna; You just made her day with that.
Jacob: Is that your daughter?
Brianna: No, that's my niece.
Jacob: By any chance, did you find a bag with me filled
with equipment?
Brianna: Actually, I did, its in my car.


Brianna: Are you sure you don't wanna stay in the main house, guest room?
Jacob: I like to keep to myself. Staying in the loft is perfect for me actually.

Jacob was used to being alone. He hadn't the time nor the energy to invest in
friendships; his life was dedicated to his work, and he planned on keeping it that
way.Brianna left him to get settled in; and went to help her mother in the kitchen.

Jacob woke up the next morning to find breakfast sitting on the table.
It must have been Brianna. His head was throbbing, he assumed his concussion
wasn't going to get any better, anytime soon. He sat down to enjoy a quiet meal
by himself while he tried to contemplate yesterday's events.


Brianna was busy attending to the horses when Jacob decided
to take a break from his loft.
Brianna; Oh...Sleepy head is finally awake.
Jacob: Giving the circumstances, I don't think that is the nicest
term to use.
Brianna: You're right, probably not.I'm sorry.
You ever ride a horse before?
Jacob: No, and I don't intend to. I don't have time for
such activities.
Brianna: You're such a workaholic.
Jacob: I am not...



Jacob studied Brianna, watching her gently stroke the horse's coat.
She was so gentle with the animals, and they loved her. Jacob let a small
smile form, but quickly changed when Brianna turned.
Brianna: Are you sure you don't want to try a ride?
Jacob: Even if I did, I don't know how to ride.
Brianna: That's alright, I can show you.Go get changed.


Jacob managed to mount the horse without any issues.Though
he did question if riding a horse was the safest thing to do with
a concussion.


Brianna was well ahead of Jacob, who was holding on to the reins
for dear life.He felt like he was gonna throw up.
Brianna: Come on slow poke!
Jacob: Excuse me, you have the advantage, I never rode a horse before.


Brianna: Hi Emily!
Brianna shouted as she passed her neighbor's house.


She took a deep breathe; taking in the crisp autumn air as she continued
to lead Jacob and the horses to the race track.


Jacob was about ready to keel over, and his bum was hurting.
He wasn't used to riding on a horse, let alone a leathery saddle.
Jacob: I think I had enough now.
Brianna: Alright, I'll race you back.
Jacob: What? No...come back..
Brianna was already home by the time Jacob arrived.
Breathing heavy, he dismounted the horse.


Text message: DOCTOR RUSH, we always have ways to get what
we want.We're coming for you.
"Crud" Jacob thought, they must have found his location, or at least
a general location where he was. When was this all going to end? HE tried
to keep calm; he knew if he freaked Brianna would want to help; and he didn't
want to involve her anymore than he already has.
Brianna: What is it?
Jacob: Everything is fine.
Brianna: I can read people easily....someone sent you a threating message,
didn't they?
How could she possibly know? She was definately good at reading people.
Jacob Hesitated to answer; but knew she would keep pressing.
Jacob: Yes...and I won't lie, I'm a bit concerned.


Jacob: I'm not so comfortable eating at the family table...I'm not
family.
Sarah: At our home, even our guests are family! No need for you to
dine alone, Doctor Rush.

This family was so kind and giving.He didn't know if it was his concussion; but he felt
himself starting to relax, becoming more comfortable with his hosts.


Jacob decided to rummage through some of his research.His memory
loss was worse than he thought."I don't remember writing any of these notes...
And none of this is making sense....I know that I should know how to do this."
He kept flipping pages, and eying his words; but nothing was making sense.
Perhaps a good night's sleep is what he needed.He was just about to head to bed
when he heard a loud bang from the ground floor..."What was that?!" The noise
got louder, someone was rummaging through the barn....He suddenly felt his anxiety
rise....Was this where it was going to end for him?

Jacob cautiously climbed down the ladder, and slowly entered the barn.
If there was an intruder, he didn't want to startle them. He looked around
and didn't see anyone....But noticed the stall doors had been unlocked....The horses
were gone!


"They're going to to kill me He thought, as he rushed outside.
He managed to find one of Brianna's horses not too far from the ranch.
Jacob slowly approached the horse, trying to mimic how Brianna handles
them.He gently rubbed the nose of Buttercup and grabbed the reins.


"Now...for the other horse...If I was a horse, where would I be?" His
head was still hurting, but wanted to make an attempt to locate Marshal.


"There you are...I don't think I can manage to walk back." Jacob said; as
he rubbed the back of his neck..."I have no choice..."


He managed to get on to Marshal without incident."I hope you know
the way home...I sure don't" Jacob spoke to the horse.His concussion was
far from his mind right now. He knew Brianna's horses meant a lot to her,
and he wanted to get them back for her.


Brianna: You look a little razzled.Are you okay?
Jacob: The horses got loose last night...I'm...I'm sorry.Its my fault.
I think whoever was after me, came here and let them lose.
Brianna: And you went out to find them for me?


Jacob: I had to.It was my fault, and I know them mean a lot to you.
I'm sorry for the trouble I brought here.
Brianna: It's no trouble at all, we want to help you Doctor Rush.
Jacob: My first name's Jacob..He let a smile slip as he rubbed Buttercup's neck.
Brianna wondered if he would ever tell her his first name.


Brianna smiled back at Jacob. He was so awkwardly shy, Brianna
thought it was kind of cute.
Brianna: Thank you Jacob.


Miri: I give up! I can't do this.
Jacob: What is it?
Jacob watched the stressed out child work on her homework; clearly feel flustered at the
assignment.
Miri: My Science homework! I don't get it at all.
Jacob: Well, lucky for you Science is my expertise.
He sat down next to Miri and offered to help her.


Miri: I have no clue what a microbe is.
Jacob: You call them "Germs" Miri.They are what
causes you to get sick.
Miri: Like with chicken pots?
Jacob laughed at Miri's misword.
Jacob: Chicken Pox, and yes, exactly.


Brianna walked in to find Jacob tutoring Miri.She smiled at the sight
of her niece excelling in Science, a subject witch Miri always struggled
with.She decided not to disturb them and went to help her mother with
dinner.


Text: "Doctor Rush,take that as a warning....We will move forward
with drastic measures."
He flung his phone to the floor.
Jacob: I think I should probably leave...they will do more than let
your horses out.
Brianna: I'm not afraid of them.They can try to do whatever they want
I'll knock some sense into them.

Jacob couldn't figure Brianna out.What normal person would be okay with
strangers making threats towards her property. He still didn't understand
why she felt compelled to help her, and he felt sort of guilty dragging her into
his mess.

Brianna: I think you need an outing from here.Let's go to the lake.
Jacob: I'm not so sure that's a good idea, with threats and my head injury...
I still can't remember things.
Brianna: It will be okay.


Brianna took Jacob up to Stanson Lake, at least it was an activity Jacob
enjoyed.He loved studying fish...But tonight he was studying something...or
someone else.He watched Brianna with interest....She knew so many different
skills.He would be lying if he said he wasn't impressed.
Brianna; Be right back.Running to the ladies room.


Stranger: 911 I would like to report a kidnapping....at Stanson Lake.
The victim is Doctor Rush....yes the one who is missing....Some girl has
dragged him out here.-hangs up-
Stranger: That takes care of her...Now for you.


Stranger: Doctor Rush, we are trying to protect you...If you would
just come along quietly, things will go smoothly.
Jacob: Protect me? You keep trying to kidnap me...I'm not going anywhere.
Stranger: Guess its the hard way..-pulls out baseball bat-


Officer Rogers: Are you Brianna Wilkes?
Brianna: Yes. Is something wrong?
Officer Rogers: We'll need you to come down to the station for questioning.
Brianna: For what?
Officer Rogers: You are suspected of Kidnapping Doctor Jacob Rush.
Brianna: What?! No, I pulled him out of the river and he's been staying
with me for safety from his real kidnapper.Just ask him, he'll tell you.
Officer Rogers: We will when he wakes up.
Brianna: Wakes up? Where is he?
Officer Rogers: He's been taking to the hospital.Once he's awake we will
ask about you.But for now we need you to come with us.If you go on your
own free will, we won't treat it as an arrest.
Brianna: Alright I'll come along.

Since Brianna was willing to go along, the officer didn't feel the need to handcuff her or
arrest her.he let Brianna sit up front as he brought her downtown."I hope jacob is okay" Is
all Brianna thought about.

Officer Rogers: I'm sorry to bother you while you are recovering, Doctor Rush.
But we need to ask a few questions.There is a young lady who says she pulled
you out of the river when someone attacked you.We don't fully believe her story
and suspect she might be involved in your attacks.
Jacob: ..Young....Brianna!
Officer Rogers: You know her?


Despite his injuries, Jacob jumped to his feet to confront the officer.
Normally, he wouldn't dare talk back to a law enforcement officer, but
he felt the need to protect Brianna.
Jacob: Where is she?
Officer Rogers: Being held at the station for questioning.
You're alone now, so you can be honest with us.


Jacob: Brianna is telling the truth. And if you don't release her,
we're going to have a few more problems.
Officer Rogers: Calm down, Jacob.We just have to ask to be sure.
She was the last to be seen with you.We received a 911 call stating
someone saw her kidnap you.
Jacob: That's absurd! Brianna would do no such thing.
She's a friend of mine.

Jacob was losing patience with the officer, and had all he could do to not
deck him.However, Jail time was not something he felt like serving, so he backed
down.
Officer Rogers: We'll have her released.
Jacob: Thank you..


Jacob felt like he needed a little more rest, and went to lay back down,
when his phone went off.


Jacob: Wait a second, this isn't my phone, its Briannas...
Jacob realized he must have grabbed Brianna's phone by mistake.
He wasn't sure if he should answer, but the caller seemed persistant.
Jacob: Hello?
Miri: Auntie Brianna? When you coming home?
Jacob: Miri, is that you? This is Jacob.
Miri: Where is Auntie Brie?
Jacob: She's not home?
Miri: No, said she was going to check on you...she just left
little while go, but I can't sleep, she usually reads me to sleep -cries-
Jacob: Miri, don't cry, I'm sure she'll be home soon...ok?
Miri: You promise? -sniffles-
Jacob: Promise.

Jacob hung up the phone and decided to discharge himself from the hospital.The desperation
in Miri's voice was heartbreaking, poor child wanted her aunt, and it was his fault she was out
and about.He cautiously made his way through the corridors, trying to blend in with the crowds.
He made it to the elevator, and pressed "G" for ground floor..."Oh come on now! Hurry up" He said
as he pushed his way through the people getting off.He exited the building to find a strange man waiting for him.

Stranger: I'm very tired of chasing you down.We are just trying to Protect you.
Now you need to come with me.
Jacob: I'm not going anywhere with you.


Stranger: I had just about of this nonsense.
The stranger wrestled Jacob to the ground trying to pin down.
Jacob fought back, trying to knock his attacker back.


Beau: Brianna, I told you trying to help this guy was just gonna
cause trouble! You're being very irresponsible now, lets just leave
Brianna: Now, you listen to me Beau, If you saw a young lady being
attacked, tossed in a river and god knows what else, would you just
leave her?
Beau: Of course not...but..
Brianna: But nothing....its the samething.
Beau: Fine, you go check on Jacob, I'll handle Mr Hot Shot.

Beau was the type of guy you didn't want to mess with, his broad shoulders and
bulldoggish walk was enough to intimidate even the smartest of kidnappers.


Stranger: Who are you?!
Beau: You're worst nightmare..
Beau decked the stranger across the head, knocking him out cold, the man
fell to the ground all hunched over.


Beau: Don't worry about me, just get yourselves home.I'll take
care of our visitor here.

back at the ranch.


Jacob was feeling guilty for bringing so much danger and chaos
to Brianna's family.He contemplated leaving. He knew she would be
much safer without him there, but part of him didn't want to leave.
Jacob: I told you not to help me...It would just put you all in danger.
I probably should leave.
Brianna: Its fine, Jacob. We've dealt with worse people then these guys.
My family is used to helping.
Jacob: I don't want to be the cause of your family getting hurt.


Jacob felt awkward talking to Brianna. He wasn't sure why he was so
concerned for this girl. He blamed it on his concussion, causing him
to make irrational decisions. He knew he should leave, but something
was not letting him go.


Brianna: Honestly, I'm not worried about them Jacob...I'm not afraid
of them. I can handle myself.

Jacob studied Brianna, for the first time he realized just how sweet,
and caring, and beautiful she really was.


Miri: Auntie Brie are you home?
Miri's call made Brianna and Jacob jump to their feet.
Brianna: In the living room.


Miri: I can't sleep auntie brie.I was worried.
Brianna: Its okay, want me to read to you?
Jacob: Actually, I have an idea...may I?
Brianna: Of course..

Jacob took Miri's hand and led her outside to the front yard.
He grabbed his telescope from his bag and quickly set it up.


Jacob: That bright star there, is That would be Polaris, the North Star.
Even in the China Sea, that's north.
Miri: My house must be located southwest.
Jacob: Miss Miri, you are a bright young lady aren't you.


Jacob: Polaris – is famous for holding nearly still in our sky while the entire northern sky moves around it.
That’s because it’s located nearly at the north celestial pole
Miri: I dunno what that means, but it sounds neat!


Brianna: Its really nice of you to spend time with Miri, she doesn't
get out often.Thank you.


Jacob: Just my way of saying thank you, for helping me.
And I mean it, and I know I don't always say it.
Jacob smiled at Brianna, studying her reaction to his compliment.
Miri: What's wrong with the sky?
Brianna; What do you mean?
Miri: Its green and purple....look


Jacob: -laughs- Nothing's wrong with it Miri, That's Aurora Borealis.
Miri: Bored what?
Jacob: Most call it the Northern Lights.
Miri: Why is it doing that?
Jacob: The Northern Lights are actually the result of collisions between gaseous particles in the Earth's atmosphere with charged particles released from the sun's atmosphere
Miri: Huh?
Brianna: Might need to kid that down a bit.XD
Jacob: Right...The Northern Lights are actually caused by electrons from solar winds. They are attracted to the poles by the magnetic fields found there. They mix with gases in the atmosphere, causing the gases to glow
Can't really see them with all the lights..
Miri: Aww...:(
Brianna; Come we can go up to the pond.

As usual Brianna was up bright and early to get started on chores.
But she didn't expect to see Jacob up early.
Brianna: Morning Jacob, hope your feeling better.


Jacob smiled back at Brianna. Seeing her made him feel better.
"This concussion is doing strange things with my head" He kept
telling himself. "Once its gone, I'll think more clearly." He thought.
Jacob: Morning, Brianna. I'm feeling a bit better.


Jacob: Morning Oscar....You'd make a good hunting dog wouldn't
you, I can tell. You're a smart boy.
Jacob taught Oscar how to hunt, thought he would be good at discovering
gems.


Brianna: Marshal likes you Jacob, and that's saying something.He's
usually very stubborn with people.


Jacob smiled as he brushed Marshal.He liked being around the horses
as well.
Jacob: He just needs a little love is all.


Jacob decided he would give a hand at bee hives, but it turned
out he forgot to smoke the box and ended up with a bee attack.
Beau: I think it best if you go help Brianna in the stalls.
Jacob: Fine by me...
Jacob could sense Brianna's brother didn't care for him at all; and frankly
Jacob didn't like him either.


Jacob: I don't think your brother is fond of me, and I don't blame him,
I'm causing nothing but trouble for you all.
Brianna: Beau doesn't like anybody, don't worry about it.
Jacob: Come up into the loft with me.


Brianna: I don't know anything about science. I can't help with that.
Jacob: And I didn't know anything about horses either.
Brianna: You're going to make me try, aren't you?
Jacob:


Jacob gave Brianna some of his equipment to work with.She hadn't
the foggiest idea what she was doing, and feared she might blow the barn
up.


"Here let me show you Brianna" Jacob said as he grabbed the glass.
"I'm so confused." Brianna admitted, she never did well with science.
But Jacob was eager to tutor her, just as she helped him with the horses.


Brianna: Oops, I didn't mean to drop that.
She looked down at the ground where the mixture had poured on to the floor.
Jacob: Its fine, its nothing that will cause harm, you can just wipe it with a towel.



Standing near Brianna, Jacob felt his heart begin to race and an onset of nausea. "This concussion
is making me not feel so well" he thought; worried that he might be having
some sort of medical emergency.
Brianna: Are you okay? You don't look like you feel well.
Jacob: I'm not, I think maybe we should took a break.
Brianna: You need me to take you to emergency room?
Jacob: No...I..I think I'll be fine if I just go lay down for a bit
by myself.


Brianna went downstairs to give Jacob some time to rest and recover
from his episode. Brianna wondered if his head injury was getting worse.


Brianna: Just checking to see if you are feeling better.
Jacob: I'm feeling okay, thank you for checking.
Sarah: Can you bring these to Kurt Brianna.
Brianna: Ugh...Fine.
Jacob: I'll take a walk with you...Fresh air might help.


Brianna: Hey Kurt, how are you?
Kurt: Brianna! Hey, long time no see.
Brianna: mom wanted me to deliver these cookies to you...
your favorite.
Kurt: Thanks Brianna!
Kurt looked Brianna over, He and Brianna were childhood friends,
and he always had a tiny crush on Brianna, but she seemed to completely
ignore him.


Kurt: You look nice today Brianna, maybe we can hang out sometime.
Brianna: Thanks! Maybe.. But I gotta get back to the ranch.


Jacob felt a strange feeling that he hadn't experienced before.
Jealousy..."No I don't get jealous....why would I be jealous?"
He questioned himself, trying to make sense of everything.Hearing
Kurt compliment Brianna bugged him and he didn't understand why.

GraceyManor

Jacob decided to take a walk around the barn to clear his head.
His injuries were causing to make irrational decisions that he normally
wouldn't make. He stumbled upon an interesting looking device in the corner.
Sarah: I see you found Brianna's storm chasing gear.
Jacob: She storm chases?
Sarah: Used to, not anymore.
Jacob: Oh...why not?


Sarah: She'll kill me for telling you all this, so please don't repeat anything.
Sarah pulled out some old photos of what appeared to be Brianna and a young man.
Sarah: Brianna's fiancé was the one who introduced her to storm chasing, they both loved
the job, and were very good at it.
Jacob: Brianna's engaged?
Jacob would be lying if he didn't say that the idea of Brianna being engaged didn't
sting a little. He wasn't sure why the idea made him feel that way. Sarah shook her head.


Sarah: Not anymore...He was killed during a chase when he tried to intercept the tornado.
They were trying to put this machine up into the tornado, so data would be sent back to
their team on the ground. She blames herself, and decided to quit her career. That's why
she is so protective of people because she feels she didn't protect her fiancé. Jacob felt
the tears start running down his cheeks. He felt guilty for all the judgement toward Brianna
he had in the beginning.
Sarah: Don't speak of this to Brianna, she'll be upset if she found out.
Jacob: I promise, I won't.


Miri: I have a school project, can you help?
Jacob: I would love to help, what you need?
Miri: I need to find 2 butterflies, a bird, a moth and a rodent.
Jacob: That's a big list for a 4th grader, how about we do some hunting
tomorrow?
Miri: Yay! Thank you.


Miri: You look nice Jacob! Brianna does to.
Jacob: And you look adorable Miri.
Miri: Yay! Thank you.
Brianna: Who is this? I don't know you.
Caller: We know who you are helping, if you
don't work with us, there will be trouble.

As they were leaving to go out for the night, Jacob couldn't help
but notice how lovely Brianna looked in the evening light. He tried
to keep his smile hidden.


Brianna: You feeling okay? You look like you're getting sick again.
Jacob: No...I just wanted to ask if you'd dance with me..


Brianna: Is that all? You're so adorable when you're shy.XD
I'll dance with you.

Jacob pulled Brianna close. Refusing to let go,Brianna's cellphone went
off.


Brianna: Seems urgent, let me take this?
Jacob: ..of course, I'll be right here.
Jacob waited for Brianna to come back, when she didn't he decided to
go outside and see if everything was alright.


Jacob: Brianna!
Stranger: Not any closer, Jacob.. Now I think we understand each other.
Jacob: Let her go.
Jacob stepped forward, but the gentleman dragged Brianna back by her
hair. Stranger; You come with us and we'll let her go.
Brianna: Don't agree to it, its a trap.
Jacob: Let her go, and I'll go with you...
Stranger: Knew you would come to reason..
As a van was approaching, a loud growl came from behind
them.


Stranger: Ah! I hate dogs, get away!
Beau: Sick em Oscar!
Oscar chased the stranger down the road.
Beau: Will teach you to mess with my little sister.


Jacob: ...I'm sorry Brianna, I told you, keeping me here was going to
cause trouble...
Beau: Let's not talk about all that nonsense right now, lets get you
both back to the ranch.


Jacob caught Brianna off guard when he flung his arms around her,
she hesitated to hug back, not sure if it was his injuries making him act
this way...but she soon realized he wanted a hug in return.

Brianna: You look upset, are you okay?
Jacob was lost in his own little world, in the middle of the living room.He stood
there a few minutes before he responded to Brianna.


Jacob: Of course I'm not, I almost got you killed! I keep telling you
the longer I stay here, the more trouble I'll bring.


Brianna: Its not like I haven't dealt with problems before. I'm really
not worried about it, besides Beau won't let anyone mess with anyone
here.
Jacob: And there you go again, being all sweet.You really are a special
person aren't you?
Jacob smiled as he studied Brianna's face.He took her hand and pulled her
closer to him.


He stopped and backed up, blaming things once again on his injuries.
And excused himself from the room, leaving Brianna standing by herself.


Miri: Look at me! I'm making a mess and don't have to clean it up.XD
Beau: I'm gonna kick your behind! get out of there.


Beau: - whistles- look at me little sister all dolled up.Where you going?
Brianna: I promised I would go out with Kurt.
Sarah: Kurt from the down the road? Sarah said excitedly.
She always thought Kurt was a good match for Brianna, especially since
they grew up together and he was part of her storm chasing team; he knew
all about her craziness.
Brianna: Don't get too excited mother, its just one date.
Sarah: That works for me.


Jacob: Brianna got a random question for you..


Brianna: Yeah, what's up?
Jacob: ..I forgot what I was going to ask..
Brianna: Memory loss again?
Jacob: No...you just look really beautiful.
Brianna: Aww, thank you.


Brianna: You gonna be okay with my mom and brother for a bit Jacob?
Jacob: Where are you going?
Brianna: I'm going out with Kurt for a few hours.
Jacob: You...oh...I see..Yes, I'll be fine...don't worry about me.




I really should go to a doctor Jacob said. Getting upset over
a girl was not his norm. He started to worry that his injuries were progressing
and not improving.


Brianna: Ouch!
Kurt: Oh, Brie, I'm sorry.
Brianna: You really are just as clumsy as ever Kurt.


Kurt: Is that why you dropped me from your team?
Brianna; partly, you kept breaking out equipment! That wasn't cheap
you know.
Kurt: I know, but I'm more careful now, Brie! You should start up your
team again.
Brianna: I don't think so...I got a farm to run with mom and Beau.


Kurt: Its getting late, got work in the morning.Maybe we can go out again
sometime?
Brianna: We're just friends Kurt, just wanna make that clear.
Kurt: Friends is better than nothing Brianna, and go out as friends then?
Brianna: I'd be happy to hang out with you again.
Kurt headed for home, Brianna decided to have one more drink before she
went home.Poor kid is so persistent She thought as she sipped on her
drink.I made it clear we're just friends. If that don't work, then we won't be able
to be friends at all. She thought; she didn't want to string Kurt along, and gave
it to him straight; hoping he took the hint, but knowing Kurt, he probably didn't.

Brianna heard Miri crying from around the barn, she decided
to investigate and see what had upset her niece.
Brianna: Miri, what's wrong?
Miri: Jacob is gone...he was suppose to help me with my
project -sniffles-
Brianna: What do you mean gone?
Miri: Here's a note that he left.


Note: "I caused enough issues for your family.I'm returning to my
job.Do not look for me."
Brianna was quite annoyed with Jacob's abandonment, not for her, but
for Miri who seemed to take a liking to him; after all he did promise to
help Miri with her homework.
Beau: I told you that guy was nothing but trouble, that's what
happens when we help people who are ungrateful.

Brianna agreed with her older brother; Jacob was being ungrateful;
he could have at least helped Miri, before he left.She decided to look
for him and give him a piece of her mind.


Jacob managed to get himself lost in the wilderness of Great Bear.
"Maybe I should have just taken a taxi He thought; trying to make
out his surroundings.Every tree looks the same to me


He eventually stumbled upon a cabin in the woods; it appeared to be unoccupied.
Great no electricity...can't even contact my school


Stranger: Finally, we catch up to you.Now, Doctor Rush, please
don't make this difficult.My boss only wishes to speak to you,
we are trying to protect you.
Jacob: Protect me from what? All you've done is cause chaos.
I'm not giving you any information; partly because I can't remember it.
But even if I did, I wouldn't.
Stranger: A Shame...we wouldn't want anything to happen to your friend.
Jacob: ...Frien..Brianna, you leave her out of this.She has nothing to do with it.
Stranger: No, but if we take her, we know you'll talk.


Jacob: I've had just about enough of you.
Jacob went into full attack mode; he wasn't sure where all his energy and strength came from.
Maybe it was all the extra work on Brianna's ranch.


Jacob: Get lost.
Stranger: For now, I'll go, but its not the last of us.You'll see.


Brianna found Jacob passed out in the middle of the forest, she
knelt down to check for a pulse.He was breathing.
Brianna: Come on you fool, wake up.


Jacob: Brianna? What are you doing here?
Brianna: Enjoying seeing you get the lights knocked out of you.
Jacob: That's a little mean..
Brianna: Just as mean as you giving Miri that note.
Jacob: I didn't give her the note, I left it on the table.
Brianna: Well, she found it, and she's upset, you broke
your promise to her, and right now I'm not very fond of you.


Jacob felt ashamed for hurting Miri, he only meant to protect them.
Jacob: I caused too much trouble for your family, its best that I stay away now.
Brianna: A simple good bye to Miri would have been nice at least, you plum head.
Jacob: Alright, I admit it, I should have kept my promise to her, I'm sorry.
Brianna: Maybe I should leave you out here alone.


Jacob: I was only trying to protect you and your family...
I went about it the wrong way, I'm sorry...I mean it.


Jacob: I'm sorry....
Jacob held Brianna close, studying her features and waiting for
a response.. Brianna finally pushed Jacob away.


Brianna gave him a good slap across the face. Jacob would be lying
if he said that didn't hurt, both psychically and emotionally.
He rubbed his cheek, waiting for Brianna to make another move.
Brianna: That's for making Miri Cry.
Jacob: I deserved that..
Brianna: Yes, you did and you're going to apologize, after
that I frankly don't care what you do, you're a grown man,
and can leave if you want to deal with your friends on your own.
But don't be making Miri Cry.

Jacob was at a loss for words. This was a side of Brianna he wasn't used
to seeing. He owed Miri an apology, that he agreed to. Having Brianna angry
with him, hurt him more than that slap did.Why is she getting to me like this
A lot thoughts were running through his head, while he kept his distance, not wanting
to upset her anymore than he already had.

Jacob kept his word and went back to apologize to Miri for leaving
without a goodbye.
Miri: You're back!
Jacob: I'm sorry, Miri I should have kept my promise
to you.
Miri: Will you help me now?
Jacob: Absolutely.


Miri: I don't know what this word is. -points- paleontologist
Jacob: paleontologist, do you know what they do?
Miri: Is it what you do?
Jacob: Not exactly, I'm a neuroscientist, I study the nervous system.
A paleontologist studies dinosaurs.
Miri: Cool!


Brianna was happy to see Jacob keeping his word to help Miri.
She seemed to be doing much better in Science, since he started
helping her.


Brianna: Thank you for helping her.
Jacob: I owed it to her, and you..


Jacob leaned in and gave Brianna a kiss on the cheek, catching her
off guard.
Brianna: What are you doing?
Jacob: Something I should have done a long time ago.
He gently took her hands and pulled her closer.






Brianna pulled back from Jacob.
Brianna: What are you doing?


Jacob didn't expect such a response from Brianna, he pulled back.
feeling a little hurt by her reaction.
Jacob: ..I'm sorry..


Jacob let Brianna go, and stepped back. She excused herself from
the situation and left the room, leaving Jacob alone.

Brianna decided to dig out her old storm chasing equipment, she
was missing her fiance, the pain of his death was coming back to her.
Jacob knew why her device wouldn't work, but hesitated to say anything.
Jacob: Its too heavy Brianna, with all the probes in there, its not going to lift,
unless its a strong storm.


Brianna: How do you know about my storm gear?
Jacob: ...Uh..
Sarah: I told him about your career, Brianna.He asked, and I told, so
if you're gonna get mad, be mad at me.


Brianna: How much did you tell him?
Brianna was angry with her mother, her past was not something she
wanted shared around with people she barely knew..Her mother could sense
her anger.
Sarah: I told him everything.I see no harm in it.
Brianna: I think I'll go visit Kurt...
Sarah: Maker's breathe!


Jacob: She's not going to do something foolish is she?
Jacob felt a sense of fear for Brianna, not knowing where she was
going, was driving him nuts.
Sarah: Well, she took her stuff, and went to see Kurt, she's gonna attempt
to get that going again.
Jacob: Its not going to work, without a little adjustments, she's going to get killed!
Jacob decided it was his turn to protect Brianna.


He found her a few miles down, with her storm chasing equipment.
Though she was mad, he couldn't help but notice how lovely she was working
with her career.


Jacob: Brianna, listen, you can get it to work, but you have to change
the design, and in the middle of a storm is not the time to do it!
Kurt(Radio): Hate to break up this interesting chat, but we got one on the ground.
Are you going Brianna?
Brianna: ...Yes, I'm going...by myself.
She took her stuff and jumped into her truck, leaving Jacob standing alone.
Jacob: Oh, you are so not going by yourself..

She was surprised to see that he had followed her, she half expected him to
be on his way back to his research.Instead he was standing there, studying her
features,
Jacob: Making sure you didn't kill yourself, are you insane?
Brianna: All part of my job.You don't have to worry about me.


Jacob: Brianna, we're friends...I want to make sure you're okay.
Brianna: Like you, I can take care of myself.No need.


Kurt: I hate to break up a touching reunion...but, Brie, I don't
think this storm is done yet.
Kurt pointed to the sky which had an ominous gray tint to it,
everyone could feel the pressure building.
Brianna: then neither am I.


Jacob: I'm coming with you.
Brianna: What? Why.
Jacob: If you're gonna risk your safety, I'm gonna risk mine along
with you.
Brianna: Fine...I'm driving.
Kurt: I'll ride...
Jacob: No, you don't.I'm with Brianna, you can handle the radio.


Kurt: Who are you anyways? You can't just take the lead, this is OUR
team.
Jacob: And I'm joining you, and I'm riding with Brianna.


Kurt glared at Jacob, feeling a bit annoyed this newbie was jumping
in.

decided not to.

Brianna: I'm fine, I can handle it.

Brianna: You said you wanted to go back to your science, remember?
Jacob: What if I don't want to go?
Brianna: Why wouldn't you want to go? You were so eager
to leave..

But Brianna didn't walk way this time, instead she took his hands.




Both forgot they were out in public, until Brianna's phone sent
a text message.


Jacob: Are you okay?
Brianna: No, Miri is missing!
Jacob: What?!
Brianna took off running without another word, Jacob trying to catch up
to her, but she hopped in with Kurt and raced back to Meadow Glenn as
quickly as Kurt's old car could go.

Jacob decided to help Brianna try and find Miri.They searched all
the surrounding woods by Brianna's home, to no avail.


Brianna: Oscar! Miri must be near by.
Oscar barked in excitement like he was trying to tell them
something.They decided to follow Oscar to the lake.


Miri was crouched on the ground, crying and soaking wet.
Brianna: Miri! There you are.


Miri ran to Jacob wanting a hug from him.She held out her arms
with tears running down her cheek.


Brianna: Miri, Jacob likes his space, you should give him that.
Jacob: No, its alright, Brianna.Really.
Jacob held on to Miri until the child let go.She held her arms up.
Miri: Carry me.
Brianna: Miri, I'm sure he doesn't..
Jacob: I'd be happy to.


Jacob carried Miri all the way home, where her dad was waiting for her.
Beau: What were you doing Miri?
Miri: I wanted to find Brianna and her friend, I was worried they would get hurt.
Jacob gave Brianna the "See what you done" glance.She rolled her eyes.
Brianna: You know I'm always okay, Miri.Don't run off again.

Miri settled into bed while Jacob told her more about science and
the galaxy.Miri slowly began to drift to sleep.


Brianna watched Jacob helping Miri fall asleep.So he has a soft side after all
She thought to herself.


Jacob: Night kiddo.


Jacob: Why are you looking at me like that?
Brianna: I thought you liked your "space" and you prefer "alone"
time? Brianna teased.
Jacob: I do, but she wanted me to sit with her, I wasn't going to
say no.

Jacob felt his cheeks go red, Brianna had a way of getting to him,
even when she was being annoying.He still wasn't 100% convinced it
WASN"T his head injuries, which got him to thinking "Its been a while...wonder
when they will show up again...

noticing, because he was now ahead of her, galloping away.She was having
a hard time keeping up with Jacob and Marshall...A noise spooked Buttercup

Jacob: This is unnecessary, don't you think? I said I
would go with you.
Stranger: So you said before.As soon as my boss speaks
with you, you'll be free to go.


Jonathan: Hello, Jacob.
Jacob: Am I suppose to know you?
Jonathan: I would hope so, we had plans to meet in regards
to your research.I do not like being stood up on meetings.
Jacob: I don't recall setting a meeting with you, but if I did, you
can thank your friends in the forests that made me have to go into hiding.
Jonathan: You can rest assure that men in the forests were not my doing,
they were a separate entity and have been dealt with. We were trying to get in
touch with you to explain that, but you kept running from us.I know this is a bit
drastic, but you gave us no other option.
Jacob: And how can I trust you?
Jonathan: You really don't have any other option, do you? I work for a pharmaceutical
company, and we were suppose to discuss selling your research to our company.
Jacob: I would never, ever think of doing such a thing!
Jonathan: I know your memory is a bit off from all the mayhem you been through, but
it is true.If you look back at your officer at the school, you'll see our conversations from the
past.
Jacob: Well, I'm not selling anything or saying anything until I find out what's going on.
Jonathan: Fair enough, take the time you need.We have no quarrels with you, just wanted
to speak to you is all.I will let you go.
Jacob: Brianna?
Jonathan: She's safe at home...I wouldn't hurt her, she's much too pretty to hurt, no?
Jacob glares at him.
Jonathan: If anyone else comes after you, know it is not us.That is bad business and I do not
do bad business, I will deal with anyone who tries to interfere with you uncovering the truth.
We mean no harm to you.
Jonathan unlocks the door and lets Jacob go.
Jonathan: You can go now, that young lady is probably waiting for you.
She is one determined young lady.

Jacob ran into Brianna's arms when he found her safe at home. Jonathan
wasn't lying about that; perhaps he was honest about the rest of it. Jacob
needed to look into this more.He also had something he needed to say
to Brianna; but wasn't sure if he would change her opinion about him or not.


He decided now was not time to bring that information out, instead
he decided to talk about his plans.
Jacob: I didn't want to leave this time without saying bye, but was wondering..
would you come with me?
Brianna: What? I can't just up and leave my family.
Jacob:...You could go to school you know?


Brianna: Jacob, are you insane?..I


Brianna:I wouldn't even know what to go for.
Jacob: Science?
Brianna: Cute...I no nothing about science...
Jacob: You do realize your storm chasing is a form of science right?
Brianna: Stop trying to make a case...
Besides I can't afford to go to school..
Jacob: Go for a scholarship?
Brianna: You have to be smart for that.

pretty smart...Just for one term? After I get my research, I plan on coming
back with you...

Brianna honestly considered his request. It would be interesting to
take up a course...
Brianna: You make a good arguement.
Jacob: I understand, if you can't...But I do still want to come back
unless you don't want me to, then I'll go.
Brianna: Its not that...
Brianna started thinking about her fiance again, she was still feeling
guilty for his death.
Brianna: I think I will give it a go...hard to argue with your way
of compliments.
Jacob: You will really? That makes me happy...um I have something
I want to talk to you about...
