Farming?

Is there ever going to be a farming style expansion pack like in TS3?

Considering people will pay money for it, yes.

I think mostly Farms will use items like chicken coops and a new way to sell gardening, and maybe Cows and Sheep will be turned into objects.

The devs have already commented on the demand, and put out little polls for farming on Twitter, so I'd guess yes at some point. Might be a game pack rather than an expansion, but I think something's coming. Plus, they'd have to be crazy not to have noticed the success of Stardew Valley in the last few years, and want to try to get in on that somehow.

Who knows, they've never added one before. But I feel like after the mess of last year they've started listening to players wants more, so it's possible they might add it for those who want it. I'm expecting it to be a game pack if it ever does happen, not enough content for an EP imo.

Probably, but I wonder how much will be in it. Will it have horses, small animals and tractors or will it have none of these things?

Keeping in mind that Gardening is a big chunk of what Frarming's about and we have that down pat. What people want is animals.

All I require in a FARM pack is barn/farmhouse build/buy stuff and animals (that are not part of the family) like we had in S3. The cows with a shed and chickens with a coop, only more of them: hogs, goats, geese, sheep, etc. Each will allow you to collect something (like wool from sheep) that can then be used in the CRAFTING part of the pack. For example, using the wool to spin thread on a spinning wheel and then use that thread on a loom, or quilting or with the KNITFY KNITTING pack.

    Requirements:
    1. farm build/buy stuff and CAS
    2. animals used to gather supplies
    3. crafting of those gathered supplies

Now the world should be relatively flat but with pastures and hills in the background full of sheep and cows to give the impression of large farms. There should be a few big lots for large farms and few medium lots for smaller farms and a few small lots for public places like a fresh air market, community barn for meetings and dances (think Eco Living) and a few farmhouses that no longer farm.

I agree that animals is more important than more plants, but I would lovesome feature implying growing larger fields - such as corn mats covering 10x10 or more. If we get a tractor there could even be a way for a farm to own sub fields (extra lots) where we could add the kind of grass/corns etc we want to grow. I think that would look more massive than 10 single plants in two rows in a backyard ;)

EP or GP or SP - well, I can think of content that would hardly get room in an EP. We might be happy with a cow and a sheep, but we could also harvest wool to make yarn (not possible for knitting as we never need to buy that yard we use), cows allows for making butter and cheese. Canning and nectar making, and a farmer's market. They could also add family tribe heirlooms as old farms have often been on the same family's hands for many generations - there could be old secret recipes or secret magical ingredients that can only be obtained through heritage. They could expand on ways to benefit from windmills and water collectors etc. There could be a sales/show off event where you can sell/buy farm animals. And so on... ;)

If they bring farming I hope they add crafting stations that help reduce the amount of vegetables we have while producing something of bigger value. Like the fizzy juice machine, it should have required 2 apples to produce 1 bottle of fizzy apple juice, and 12 apples to produce the 6 bottle pack. My sim has 70 apples and it's going to take forever to turn them all into fizzy juice and then try to sell them as juice with the current setup of 5 apples producing 6 bottle of juice. There isn't much apple juice in those drinks if you ask me.
Also, I don't want large farms as it takes forever to go from one end of the lot to the other. Instead of a tractor maybe we could get a smaller machine, more suitable to a smaller farm.

The sims would really benefit from a better farm to table path. There needs to be a farm to store sale option. It takes so long to tend produce that there is no time for a farmer to also sell that produce. These are two different stages but there is no good link between the two. A bulk farm purchase option, for a store to gain access to produce would be wonderful. From the store, produce can be purchased to produce other goods.

When they add a FARM pack (and, hopefully, a VINEYARD pack) it would be nice if you could hire NPC field workers to tend your crops. Similar to how you can hire sales people for a shop.

Your sim uses their cell phone or computer to access a list of possible workers with different skill sets. They come in the morning and leave in the late afternoon. They do not need any food or a place to sleep. They are not a part of your household. They wear overalls and boots and all that they pick goes into your household inventory. You can also fire any one or all of them and/or discipline them, same as in retail.

When the growing season is over, cancel them.

It might be fun to add a scarecrow in the field. It would trigger crows to "attack" similar to how birds attack on occasion when your sim fills the bird feeder.

I'm not sure, but it seems like a lot of people want it. If there's any, I can see that they might added the farm animals. However, I'm not sure if they want to take a risk on that one too, considering it can be a sensitive topic to some. Perhaps, they might just added horse & other farm activities like the farmer's market, cheese making, milk, etc. or even a new farming system like hydroponic since we already have gardening skill.

i have a little house on the prairie savefile and i desperately want a farming pack. they got horses and chickens on their farm, and while i can somewhat recreate the crop aspect its not really the same without a bulk sell system or being able to buy more plots of land.

I DO NOT want horses in a farming pack. They will not be very well done and a huge disappointment. There are so many other ways to make horses fun in their own pack and I would hate for our one shot at horses be nerfed by shoving then in a farm pack.

Plus, in a separate pack, we get more farm stuff like crafting and canning and other farm related things.

Well horses are mostly well known animals we all love, along with farm animals, that's a part of a planet earth, and I like it!

Animals are the best part of this world I bet they can be the best part in the Sims 4 too.

Animals are my main interest in a farming pack, so I hope they do right by them. Not just keeping them for item drops, but being able to bond with them. We can bond with bees and dolphins, it would be great to see a version of that. Being nice to them and taking care of their needs will improve the quality of their offerings, while ignoring them will cause them to get sick, stop producing and possibly even die.

Bonus if we can get animal competitions, like comparing hog sizes at a county fair.

I think we'll get animals, but it'll be very much in the vein of the bug farms in Eco Living. You buy a CAS item, a sty or pen or something, and you can choose what animals to raise in it for a price, and then you get an animation of those animals in there, but you can't interact with them individually.

Then you can click on the item to refill food, water, etc, maybe 'Check for Illness', and then if you want to milk or shear things, you get an animation like when you nuture a bug in your bug farm, with that specific type of animal, but that's it. Probably also with a meter to show the health/happiness of the animals in the pen, which will go up or down depending on how you treat them. That's not quite as good as having animals roaming around, but I can't see how else they can do it, without adding specific animals to the household like cats and dogs, or just having animal animations roaming all around the lot. I assume it's those models and animations that are making the pack take a while, but personally I don't expect specific individual animals roaming around (much as I would like that).

@12JEREMIA & @justice4bonehilda I did not say that I don't want horses. I do, I just don't want them shoehorned into a pack about anything other than them.

I also want lots of farm animals to tend and gather supplies from that can be sold or used to make other things via crafting.

This is S4, not S3. We will not get horses like we got in S3 in this version. Everything is smaller, lesser and done differently. If we get horses, like dogs and cats, they will be part of our household and take up space that another sim would have. IMO, if they are better than a carousel horse, I'll be shocked and happy. My fear is that they will be done as well as cars have been done. :D

I think cats and dogs should have been given the BUTLER treatment. When you hire a butler, they move into your house and require a bed and bath but you can give them orders. If C&D's were done in a similar way, then you would create them in CAP and, when done, they would go into both your library and the pet adoption service. Then, you call on your cell or use your computer and adopt that dog or cat that you created in CAP and it moves into your house. Instead of a portrait of them, they appear as a pie menu selection (maybe PETS) and that opens up commands like WHISTLE, etc. Plus, you can still click on the pet to get a pie menu. Everything after that is the same. The only difference is that they no longer would be slotted into your limited household slots.

    I'd love a framing pack for TS4.

I'd love to have a chicken choop to collect eggs and cows to have milk. Maybe pigs which "give" meat would be fun too. A farmer's market where our famrer Sims can sell their goods would be great to have as well. New stuff for gardening and more things to do with what our Sims harvest. Making jams and preserves, making nectars of different qualities. Not to forget the addition of nice rural CAS and B/B items.
I'd love to see a singing career in game, EA! You can't let the singing skill go to waste! My TS4 EPs: GTW, GT, CL, C&D, S, GF, IL, DU, EL, SE, CoL, HSY, GrT, HR, FR GPs: OR, SD, DO, V, P, JA, SV, RoM, DHD, MWS

Keeping in mind that Cats and Dogs actively play a part in your household, thinking for themselves as pets, that took a lot of work. Farming animals - chickens, cows, sheep - don't need to be as smart, and can be a bit of a hive mind.
