Talk to fish?

I haven't played a mersim in quite a while now, so decided to make my current sim one from the start, in CAS. Its more or less how I remembered it. But, I could have sworn my previous mersims were able to talk to fish in aquariums? I have the big one with full glass both back and front, think it was from Spa day or Dine out, not in game so can't check right now. And there is no option to "Talk to fish". I am almost 100% certain I've used this option before, and it filled social too.

Am I just imagining things or is my memory THAT bad?

You aren't imagining things! I believe your mermaid needs the 'child of the ocean' trait for these interactions.

Ohhh no wonder! I never use that trait anymore, mersim or not. All my sims are fishing, so I really CAN'T use it. They'd be sad 100% of the time I probably just tried it out on my first mersim, and then ditched it. Thank you!
