What's up with the Library?

My sim needed to build some Logic skill, so I sent her to the library. She has no fame stars, and she invited another non-fame sim to play chess with her. The next thing I know is that lots of random sims arrive the library (which is fine) and they ALL flock around the chess table and start talking with my sim. She gets more busy with the group conversation than actually playing chess. I cancel the conversations, but new sims get queued to chat. The library has become a veeeery noisy place, and I don't see any Librarian around, either. I had to check whether I might have re-categorized the lot, but no, it's still a Library.

I'd much prefer them to be less communicative in a Library? I never saw this much desperate talking in any library. It reminds me of students studying at a UNI dorm, they are extremely social, even if their social bar is full. Did this change with the UNI pack? I really miss my old silent library...

Yes you can blame Discover University for this. And it's super annoying, sims don't go to the library to socialise, they go to quietly work on their homework or skills.
It annoyed me so much that I downloaded a mod that prevent strangers from engaging conversations with your active sims. It works great for me.
I'd add a link but I'm on mobile right now. If anyone is interested I can look it up later.

I took my sim to the closest library (at strangerville) a few times yesterday, and unless he started a conversation, no one talked to him...

It has to be something about the chess table that causes everyone to be social. When my sim isn’t using it but other sims are they all crowd around it. It’s even worser when a celeb shows up because half are then gushing over the celeb and passing out.

I don't know about libraries, since I never visit those...but in general, sims are extremely social everywhere. Their social need has nothing to do with it. Unknown sims especially, will always queue up to talk to my sims whenever I let them venture outside their own house.

I find it very pushy and don't like it. I don't want my sims to talk to someone before I have a chance to properly introduce my sim to them. Not interested in learning traits the slow way, I want to learn them all in one go, and be done with it. Especially since my sims always have "Observant" and "Incredibly friendly" and often/mostly a good to pristine reputation. Which means instand friend/good friend at introduction. In public places, introduction is not always possible, because of the amount of sims wanting to talk at the same time.

Not sure any lot trait can help either, like the "Quiet place" one, don't really think it'll actually keep sims quiet! :D Wish it did, though. Would be perfect for libraries :)

@MDianaSims Thanks, I try to limit my mods, but I'll check it out if this gets worse.

@telmarina Hm, weird. I was in the Willow Creek library, btw. I'll check out some more worlds later.

Ugh yes. I hate when these random plebs townies hover around my sims in public spaces. I play rotational so it also irks me when I see the relationship panel filled with unauthorized friendships lol.

I found another change that I suspect comes from UNI. Several teens have of lately chose to sit on a bed to do homework instead of say a desk or dining table. I don'y like it, because they don't even necessarily choose their own bed. In this case the sim was actually closer to the desk in her own bedroom, than the bed she chose to sit on, Again, just like in a dorm...

Now that you mention it I had same issue other day, I didn't pay much attn, she's always got some kinda charisma more than the skill and sims are always trying to talk to her, but definitely more when she played chess at library

Ah, I forgot about the lot traits. I hate the traits causing animations to dance around their heads, but if "quiet place" comes with no graphics, I'll of course try that in the library! This was the Willow Creek library, there were no lot traits in the game back then, but that trait might have been added to the Strangerville library that someone mentioned was quiet.

    Thanks!

Exactly my thinking! I come back to some family, and see all these people they apparently got to know when I was away. To be absolutely honest, most of those plebs townies are outta here with MCCC sooo fast....

Anyway, I'm wondering also if the overly social sims has anything to do with another problem I'm having, especially with sims studying/researching on computers/laptops. They are constantly stuck and have to be reset, and it seems its because other sims want to interact and talk to them. Bartenders as well, get stuck in animation apparently when sims order drinks. I have to constantly reset sims whenever I'm out and about, either at festivals or any of the Britechester commons, or simply visiting a bar.

Sorry if I'm derailing the thread, I should probably search the AHQ for that :)

@Simmerville @Kathykins I can't directly link the mod, because the patreon post has a word in it's title that would be blocked by the forum's censor (the creator really, really doesn't like NPCs chatting up their Sims).
Anyway, it's a mod by Zero and if you google "sims 4 zero mod no auto chat" it's the first one that pops up. It's a fairly simple mod that prevents NPCs from talking to your Sims. There is also a link to a far more elaborate mod by Turbodriver (I haven't used that mod, looked fairly complicated and the Zero one is pretty much exactly what I wanted).

I also use MCCC to poof them away .

I haven't seen reset issues with bartenders and laptops. But it sounds like those group conversations are causing your game serious issues.

I'll definitely check that out. I use Zero's mods to stop npcs from turning into spellcasters and portal only spellcasters.

Awesome, thank you so much :) I do use a couple other Zero mods, and even found a couple more I want to try out :D

I'll see now if chatty townies are what's causing trouble in my game :|

Sims will generally come to the lot you're in and make themselves easy to socialise with.
Prepping a list of mods to add after Infants are placed into the game. Because real life isn't 'nice'.

I found there was way less conversation when my sim did not play chess. But adding lot traits "Silent lot good for reading" and "Study place" did not help much.

Even before I got University, the chessboard was/is a magnet for social interractions. The only place it doesn't attract is in residential homes. As in, my Sims don't autonomously seek out Sims playing to chat with them except of course if they are already playing with them or their social is really low.
