I think fences are also a country related thing. I am more used to apartments, city living so fences are not really a thing there. And in the family house i grew up in, we have mostly greens around us. Lowlands style!
I think the US is more of a fence country. I rarely build suburban houses. i only have one neighborhood in WC where i did that and yes.. most of them have fences around them. Except from a school, kindergarten and science lab I am working on in my head, I never really use fences.
