Sim won't die (RESOLVED)

An elder sim in my game seems to be living forever. I tried resetting him, I tried temporarily moving him out and letting his motive bars go into the red, but he continues on long after his life bar reached the end. I also chose to "Repair Game" when I opened it up earlier today, in case that was the problem.
Ordinarily I would just move the sim into the home of one of his other relatives but as he's the generation 2 heir of my legacy-style game I made a cemetery and there's a space for his headstone alongside his late wife. I don't know what to do? His daughter's husband has already died of old age and so did his particular sim's own wife (she married a younger man!) so clearly the ageing process itself is not the problem. The problem is with this particular sim.
