I'm not sure who Kalea inherited her skin tone and hair colour off. Kailani is a sim I made and Akela's a sim off the gallery (heavily edited). I seeded the world with some sims off the gallery.

It's one of my fave haircolours in the sims, I just wasn't expecting it

I think genetics come from grandparents too, so maybe your off gallery sim had parents with those colourings? I'm not sure how that works.

Yeah, the really weird thing to me is that when they pull genetics, they consider red to be halfway between white and black, so I think that's how that happens sometimes. If I recall correctly, the previous Sims games instead pulled the genetics from the elderly parent (or grandparent's) original hair color from their youth, not their gray or white old age hair. Which is how it should be.

Edit. Both mermaids. Mako had a 50/50 chance but both Kalea's parents are merfolk.

This is a reported problem over in the HQ section. Apparently mermaids aren't passing down their genes. Someone did a couple tests with it.
