So my sim planted the bizarre fruit from the curio shop, evolved it to perfect quality, and after nurturing it got, you guessed it, a normal quality bizarre fruit. I feel like because of the different mechanism for bizarre plant and other plants to bear harvestables this might as well be designed by producers, yet it just makes leveling bizarre plant meaningless as normal bizarre fruit doesn’t worth much and the plant itself has zero value.
I hope it’s just a bug of my own game......

I know the trash plant produces a variety of quality, even when it's 'perfect'. But this sounds more like a bug?
That’s caused by pre-seasons gardening overhaul patch I suppose. Seems like harvestables spawning rates for spliced plants are based on their rarities. I am lucky enough to get a 50-ish reserve of perfect cow plant berries before the patch and I think I’ve only got one or two after the patch.
Thx now you give me the idea. I’ll try to splice bizarre plant onto my other perfect plant and see what will happen (tho for the reason above, the rare bizarre fruit may take forever to spawn...... But better to try than not I guess )
An update: splice worked:)
Wonderful! If you mess with those strange plants, do you risk getting your Sims infected with, well, whatever it is that's infecting them? Or, do they have to eat them to get infected? (I don't want to play with the story at the moment.)
Yeah, it’s like the plasma fruit from Vampires. Unlike TS3, the game doesn’t keep track of what fruit you used when you cook something, so you won’t end up with Plasma Pancakes or Bizarre Fruit Parfait or whatever.
also, gotta try to remember to do the splicing for a perfect bizarre fruit when i have time to actually play again. and gotta update my 'all perfect plants' garden upload... though i'm sure others have done such already
I hate though that i can make plasmafruit meals in my vampires family but they always make my vampires throw up ( why when plasmafruit is what they eat ) .
So, on to a new issue. Does the bizarre fruit not produce fruit outside of Strangerville? I sent my Sims to buy the fruit from the curio shop, and now I've got one growing in my greenhouse. It's reached 'nice' quality, but no fruit.
Also, what is the point of taking a picture of the plant? (I mean, it's a nice plant, and would make a lovely picture, but does taking a picture do anything sinistre?)
Taking a picture is one of the ways you can get evidence for the Strangerville mystery. So yeah, nothing you need to worry about.

Of course, I could just move them to Strangerville, but Llama, all the crap valuable stuff my Sims have collected! It would take days to sort out the household inventory. (And I suspect that the fish I've stockpiled in underground tanks would end up in the household inventory.)
My Sims have a hoarding problem.
"Love will Fight, Love will Win and Love will Survive."
So, maybe I just need to be more patient. I'll get my fruit...someday. It's the last one I need for my perfect harvestables collection (just finished all seven emotion berries).
I’ve never got any bizarre fruits besides nurturing them (but I planted them using MOO underground so that might be why it’s acting weird).
We've made it to magnificent, but still no fruit. I moved them outside (they were in the greenhouse) to see if that would help. I also can't graft to or from them.
(I also have the option to 'nurture' my bizarre fruit plant - what does this do? Should my Sim be wearing a hazmat suit when dealing with this plant?)
It sounds like I need to progress the StrangerVille story up to the bloom when the lab door is opened with someone so the Bizarre fruit plants actually grow and THEN take a cutting, splice it on another perfect plant IN StrangerVille and then wait for a perfect Bizarre fruit to appear?
Or will Bizarre fruit actually grow from a cutting spliced on to another plant regardless of where it is grown? I'm very confused... o.O
EDIT:
The option to 'nurture' is how you get the plant to produce a Bizarre fruit from it. I know that much from playing through the story. I wouldn't worry about wearing a Hazmat suit when doing it either. My Sim never got infected while nurturing to get Bizarre fruit. It does send out a cloud of spores when you nurture though. So, if you're worried, it wouldn't hurt to wear one anyway, just in case.
just checked that with my sim who already has several cuttings from wild plants in a slightly glitched instance of strangerville. shady acres has the tiny pods, which can't have cuttings taken, the downtown area has the second-stage plants that can be nurtured and cuttings can be taken from those
and yeah, what kara said about nurturing. it has the plant grow into the third-stage version, which lets your sim harvest a single fruit from it. each plant can only be nurtured once every 24 hours, and that's a set 24 hour period, not 24 hours from last time it was nurtured. so, if you nurture/harvest just before whatever the reset time is (i want to say it's the 5 am like for regular harvesting, but don't recall), you can basically do it twice in a row
Until I used the shift-click cheat, I didn't even have the option to nurture - I just had 'talk' and 'research' and occasionally 'fertilise'. I still wasn't able to graft to the bizarre plant, just take cuttings, but I grew a growfruit tree, and once it got big enough to have the 'graft' option, I grafted my cutting from the bizarre plant to the growfruit. Waited another couple of days for the growfruit to grow up again and voila! Four perfect bizarre fruit on my growfruit tree.
I have completed my perfect plant collection - aside from the vampire and pets plants (since I don't have those packs), I now have perfect specimens from every plant.

You don’t need to. I did it in Forgotten Hollow.

(I was also nurturing a perfect UFO plant at the time, so I stuck that in the room, too. Figured alien plants could be friends.) I put the death flower/bizarre fruit spliced plant in my Crazy Botanist's Lab just because it made sense.
As Airakale states, it's not necessary, but I'd had no luck with my bizarre plant in Newcrest, so my Sim was camping in Strangerville at the time. (And also raising a toddler. I had weather effects turned off, since they were living al fresco, but I think my blossoming bizarre plant was phoning home to the mother plant. Things were starting to get mighty strange by the time I got my perfect fruit: lots of thunderstorms and even snow. My Sims were stuck in their tent for entire days.)
