Family tree culling?

After the update with the sim count and all of that, I wondered if my family trees would be affected. I have loooong generations and I really loved having those. I thought I read somewhere that the family trees would not be affected, but when I had a look in my game now, lots of links are missing, sadly. Is this how it's suppose to be? Has it always been this way?

Same with mine. Had 16+ generations that got wiped or truncated with the update. So disappointing to grow a giant family tree from a single person and lose the records of so many of my favorite characters over the years. Last 6 gens seem to be intact for now. Guess we'll see if it breaks again and I'll let that determine whether it's worth it to try and continue playing a game that clearly doesn't value its legacy players.

Sadly I read in a post I assume the dead ancestors are just left as homeless ghosts right? If they are not added to a family household after a certain number of sim days the ghosts will be culled (correct me if this is somewhat wrong!). This was implemented I think just before the Cats and dogs patch. This is why I personally keep their ghosts in another empty house so that the tree is intact :D (I am on generation 20 atm :o )

I have finally finished my Legacy Challenge , these are the Levis (numbered by Generation!)

@ilnanaretaw It's really sad. I've played for so many generations and I loved being able to see the whole bunch. I wish they could fix it again.

@ArtsyBanana My problem is that I don't really care too much for ghosts, I just like to have the family trees so I can look back on the sims I've created.

Ghosts can be culled (eventually, though you can get warnings that let you give them lower culling priority again), but the tree will be intact. See http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/905991/culling-relationship-culling-decay-current-status#latest

@luthienrising Tried to read some of the posts, but it's still very unclear to me. All my family trees have been affected so the tree isn't intact? I got those warnings, but I didn't care if I lost them, but they are also gone from the tree.

My understanding is that in the current system, your family tree stays intact even when dead Sims are culled from the game. The game can't, however, restore to it Sims who had already disappeared from it before the November 2017 update. If you have had dead Sims culled (they won't be, e.g., in Relationships anymore) and they have at the same time disappeared from the family tree, that may be a bug. You can report it at http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4-Bug-Reports/bd-p/The-Sims-4-Bugs
