Elders

«13
I was thinking about it and with all the love thrown the way of toddlers, children and teens recently I really think they should release a pack of items (either free content we can patch in or a stuff/game pack of some type) just for the elders in Sims 4. They are seemingly very overlooked and they are important family members too.

I definitely agree. In my current saves I tend to avoid playing elders as I just don't think there is enough content or things for them to do to keep me entertained :D

I would love, love, LOVE to have a pack dedicated to them. They have notoriously been overlooked in every era of this game and I think that's so sad as there's so much fun to be had! :)

I agree with this! There's a thread somewhere in the suggestions area with lots of cool ideas for elders, such as knitting, walking canes etc. I think they should flesh out all the life stages but elders especially.

Yes dedicate a pack to elders wpuld be a great step. Include an Alice Crumblebottom type character and have cruise ships. Casinos and quilting bees book clubs and rocking chairs. There could be line dancing and more interaction with grandchildren in the form of taking them out for ice cream to the park and the library. Ugly sweater knitting and teens being forced to wear them. Afgans. There could be senior care living areas. There is now bowling and clubs and restaurants so there could already be elder leagues. The restaurants could have senior meals. When pets come put you could have the crazy cat lady. Also you could have the bird lady like the one in Central park. They could be used as the nanny instead of only NPCS. Could have them cruise to a tropical island (of course we need tropical island vacation spot.) have them spoil grandkids. There could then be volunteer jobs also added. So much more could be done with the elderly that is not.sad.

What were elders like in the previous games?

Definitely make a great point @RebeccaThurston ! All these ideas in the this thread sound great. I recently thought about looking for retirement/nursing home build so I could put all my elders in one spot lol.

Here's Don Lothario as an elder in my current save acting like he's still in his 20s.

Agreed. It would be nice to see some more emphasis on the elders. Especially being able to adjust how long they live for. I find that in the sims 3 they died too quick, and with having the Parenthood pack (even though I don't have it), they should be around longer.

This is a great idea. An elder pack would be nice but I hope it doesn't contain a lot of cruel stereotypes about the elderly. The elderly are a diverse group, just like every other age group.

This is a nice idea but it's personally not a priority for me. I'm not that interested in elders as I never get round to playing them. Although I can see that loads of people adore elders as much as all the other life stages, so it would be neat to see new things.

This seems like a good idea. Elders don't get enough love in my gameplay. Usually, after they have a child all of my attention from them drifts away. If Sims 4 released some free interactions or a pack like Generations in the sims 3, I would have that much more fun playing.

I think an Elder Stuff Pack would be brilliant, although I wouldn't get it. Currently when my sim becomes an elder I just chuck them in a pool and put a fence around it. >:)

I would love options for elder workouts that did not leave them near death after only seconds of yoga or jogging. Pilates, less strenuous ways of shedding a few pounds, along with everything else suggested.

To be fair, Don seems like the kinda guy who'd live like that. Something like: "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional."

But, yeah. It would be nice to see some clothes for the older sims. I remember TS3 had some really nice clothes for elders.

I would actually love this. So long as it allowed that diversity for an old person to have, for example, a 'eternally young' mentality or an 'old fashioned gent/lady' mentality and so on and so forth. Additional elements that only get added when your sim becomes elder and particular goals related to retirement or fulfilling a lifelong ambition or maybe even doing something for kids or grandkids. And the option of a will and legacy would be nice too.
I am a little frustrated with the fact that in my game if an elder dies when I am not at that house nobody is at all fussed about it the next time I visit. And I had one sim die on a community lot after just meeting a granddaughter for the first time. The granddaughter who had almost zero relationship with her spent 2 days mourning her, but the woman's son (the girl's father) threw a birthday party and everyone in the family who had been close to the dead old woman didn't seem at all bothered. That's an inconsistency I think could be ironed out with something elder-centred.

Just keep in mind, that with a little luck, you'll be an Elder some day. ;)

It takes like a billion years to be old though - hopefully I will die before I get old.

I agree! The elders are an interesting, though often forgotten life state.

If they haven't done so earlier in life I usually have my elders take up yoga and meditation; I haven't found that yoga leaves them near death after only a few seconds. I'd like to see more hobbies and crafts that can be done by multiple ages, so maybe you could have a elder teaching his/her grandchild to knit, or a workbench where elders and teens can work together and build objects while building a bridge across the generations. Crafting would be a really good new skill for the game. I can imagine an elder with a child sat talking while knitting. Then any items could be sold online (on Simtsy ), or in a shop. There could be all sorts of crafts too, like embroidery, sewing, pottery.

I can just see my elderly sim now in a Lavender cottage, pottering about, and rooting through a wicker basket of yarn.

It would be great to have a stuff pack for the Elders!

Canes should come back :) and I'm down for knitting, where they can knit sweaters (unlocked outfits for all ages). Maybe even depending on their skill level it could come out cute but 🐸🐸🐸🐸 :joy: like those ugly Christmas Sweaters LOL.

Soaps could be like a new TV Channel (or maybe a game show channel)

Maybe even a family specific want to "Call Daughter" or "Call Grandson", with a cute happy moodlet after talking (maybe this already exists for family sims?)

Also random drop ins by your sims elderly parents/grandparents where they visit bringing pies or something they homemade. That could be cute!

I think elders could really benefit from a free time/hobbies type of stuff pack/game pack.

It's just the lack of things to do in this game that's really painful. You've probably tried every object and activity there is before your sim reaches adulthood, so playing with elders is boring and repetitive..I would love to see knitting and more ways for sims to craft objects. I really want to build my elders a little shed in the backyard where they can do more things besides using the woodworking table :)

I'd love to see this too. I once created a club for my elderly Sim after her husband passed and I felt bad for her. Now she did live with her daughter and grandchildren but I wanted her to have people around her age to hang out with. So I made a club where they painted, went for coffee, yoga etc. It was kinda cute but I would love for more content specifically for the elders.

Anything to make their death just a little less painful is good in my books. I can't bare to have some of my favourite sims sit around and wait for their death

I wish we had proper sports in the game like golf or tennis so that our elders could join a club accordingly. It would be nice for them to have a community center of sorts where they could play the sim equivalent to bridge. Also I've seen the idea of a knitting/crafting skill mentioned in this thread and a few others and I think that would be a wonderful addition. Imagine an unlock that was a sweater knitted with love and care by a granny. :D

definitely need this - once the kids are grown up I move on to playing them and leave their parents languishing basically until they die. Which of course no one else in the family notices if it doesn't happen bang in front of them...

Yes, a pack just for elders would be nice. They could have special interactions like, "pass along wisdom/advice," "teach secret family recipe (new interaction and meal)," "Brag about grandchildren," etc...
