Origin Stopped Working -- Can't Re-install Due To Error 9.0...?

Has anyone here had problems with Origin in the last week?

It has been working fine for me until yesterday, then the endless spinning icon began when I tried to open Origin to play my sims game. I uninstalled Origin after reading numerous threads on this issue.

Now when I try to re-install the program, I keep getting the Error 9.0 code. The only advice I've read is to clear the Origin cache files but I can't do that since I've already uninstalled the program.

So very tired of bugs and glitches w/the Sims and its host launcher.

I have no idea what Error 9 can be (or 1 through 8 for that matter), but it sounds like remnants of Origin got left behind when you uninstalled it. Had you run the uninstaller from the Windows Control Panel?

You might try using the free version of CCleaner or a similar product to cleanup the Registry and remnants from an incomplete uninstall before trying to install Origin again. Chances are there is some program data left behind, and not necessarily in an obvious place, and not what would have been inside the original Program Files (x86) location.

Also see this thread on the EA Answers HQ board. It's very long, but players are still adding their Origin Install errors and solutions to it.

Yes, I did do the "Uninstall" from the Windows Control Panel and had thought about the possible remnants left in the registry from doing it that way.

Thank you for the link and I will research it and hopefully find a solution.

Found a solution on the link you provided, @igazor. I disabled my Malwarebytes program and the new Origin update installed flawlessly. It's also working fine w/Malwarebytes also enabled. So happy to be able to play the new SP w/the rock climbing wall. Thanks again for the helpful link! :D

Never would have guessed that MalwareBytes would get in the way of an installer like that. Perhaps you have the Pro, always scanning for issues version? I only ever use MWB to scan on demand, usually it sits there quietly not doing anything. On a certain juvenile level, there is some humor in MWB thinking that the Origin installer is spyware, but guess that's not really helpful.

As for the "new SP," I think we're playing different games there. ;) But regardless, glad you got that worked out and that I was of some assistance.

Hi there, this is the TS3 side of the forum. The support we as fellow simmers can offer for Origin itself is really quite limited, not all of us even use it and most of us would never have seen that error. If there is nothing on the EA Answers HQ board post already linked to that was any help, especially what is now the top post on page 1 (of 28, yikes!), I would suggest posting on Answers HQ if you haven't already to get some assistance over there.

@igazor Very much thanks to you! You literally saved my life. I don't know I feel very awkward now. I didn't noticed there were 28 pages. I only searched through the first one :| There was a helpful link at the end of that thread - it said my bin was broken so it fixed for me and everything works just fine since then. Thank You again.

@DoloresGrey - You're very welcome and glad you got that fixed. At least you didn't call up Origin, the energy company in Australia, to yell at them like I see another player on that thread did by accident (by way of Twitter).

But I'm pretty sure your life was not in any actual danger, at least not because of this issue. :)
