When the ranch was confiscated in the early 1990s, Escobar's menagerie was dispersed to zoos around the country. Except the hippos. One male and three females, who have been left to thrive and multiple. At last estimate, there were between 50 and 60 of the inbred hippos roaming the wild. While normal hippos reach sexual maturity between 7-11, these hippos reach it at about 3, with the fertile females producing a calf a year. There is no current solution to the invasive species. They cannot be brought to Africa, for fear of disease (and the cost) No zoo are interested in the adult hippos (a few babies have been brought to the Colombian zoo). Castration would be dangerous for both the hippos and vets. Creating a reserve would be too costly.

But- I love ladybugs, caterpillars, dragonflies, grasshoppers, crickets, bees (mostly bumble bees), jumping spiders (Not insects, and I actually have a fear of most spiders, but they rarely ever bite.), beetles, vvorms, butterflies, moths, and umm
