Why don't our sims go to work when we're not controlling them?

So at the moment, in my game, I am a rotational player - and what really annoys me is that if I switch to another family in the middle of the day, I will see my sims still in their pyjamas, having missed about 5 hours of work...

Why don't they go to work when we're not controlling them? I don't think their performance goes down at all, it's more of an annoyance.

Good question. I've been complaining about that for a two years. It's annoying for rotational players. I have to make sure I switch houses around 3am now.

I see sometimes school aged kids who should be in school just casually walking around at 11am.
A bit annoying. :/ Would be nice if, even if its just an illusion, most kids would not walk around at week days when they should be in school. (Perhaps only sometimes a rebellious kid who skips, but not all of them so often)
