I want to play Sims 3 but...(CC question)

Hello all! I'm hoping someone, (or better some people) can help me. (My question is the last paragraph if you don't want to read my rabbling.:blush: )

I haven't played Sims 3 in a very long time, i had to stop because my poor old computer wasn't good enough to handle it anymore and it constantly lagged/crashed. Then i got a new computer and Sims 4 came out. So i've been playing that inbetween general life. Recently i've been getting ideas of stories to create in S3, however the thing is i really dislike the way the sims look. When i used to play it i always struggled to make, imo, pretty sims and generally just stuck with one that i was proud of and just changed her a tiny bit with a different name every time. As you can probably tell - that got boring!

I never put CC in my game after i got scared when that doll-thing got in my game (do you remember? ....I found it creepy!!) :fearful: so i don't know much about the various options which leads me to my question (sorry it took so long to get here  )

I've seen on the forums that there seems to be a "sims 3 vs sims 4" battle but i generally really love the way sims look in S4 compared to S3, I am NOT looking to turn my game into a S4 clone, I'm just sharing so you know what i like :blush:I just want a way to change how my Sims look, so what's better - should i be looking at custom sliders? Or skins? Or make-up? Can you recommend any or point me in the right direction? I've seen so many pretty sims around i just want my sims to look that good too...

Edit: I'm not too certain if i explained that very well, it's gone midnight here, so feel free to ask me if you need any clarification

Here is a lovely post that lists all the recommended Cc sites.http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/849271/good-cc-sites-ultimate-list-if-youre-searching-for-cc-look-at-this-topic/p1

Also look at mod the sims for extra sliders and mods to customize your game. Add nrass mods to help your game run better. I have an amazing default replacement skin epherma or something like that, that basically removes the pudding even from 0 slider sims. Unfortunately I will have to go find the links which I can only do tomorrow by will edit this to add them.

I'll add some pics of my sims too so you can see if you like it ^^

I've never been one to go too cc-crazy in Sims games because I don't like to sacrifice performance, but with Sims 3 I absolutely have to use some CC in order to have non-ugly Sims. I can't stand the default skin, it just looks so flat and gross. The post listed above has some great recommendations to get you started. I use an Ephemera default skin, eye replacements that I found on MTS, and I use a few CC hairstyles to have more variety since I never bothered to reinstall all my store content. I don't really use CC makeup as I find what the game offers to be sufficient...my Sims don't wear heavy makeup most of the time anyway.

I'm terrible with sliders and most of my Sims end up looking similar regardless, but having better skins and some decent cc hair helps a little to let them look more like individuals.

I would start with just skin and eyes. I didn't start using custom sliders until last year and I've had Sims 3 since 2011. To avoid bad content sneaking into your game, you're going to want to learn how to install it. The exchnage is not a good way to obtain custom content.

Here is a CC basics guide:

I use Kurasoberina's Starfruit default skin, Escand's Oh My eyes with iShadow, custom lipstick and hair. For the rest, click randomize and randomize again until you find a sim that looks OK enough, adjust sliders and colors a bit (always adjust hair color because default ones are ugly) and you don't need anything more :) You can use more but it isn't necessary at all, your sims will already look amazing.
An example with the CC mentioned above (this is my simself, so not a randomized sim and a rather ordinary looking one but randomized ones can be very pretty) :

If you want to bare bones it with the CC, then I would highly suggest Default skins, and default eyes, with some CC hair.

You really dont need CC sliders to get good original looking sims, you just have to play around with the sliders that are already there. There is a lot of different types of skins and eyes out there and it just depends on the look you want.

I would suggest that you go and look at other peoples sims for DL and see what ones appeal to you and then peruse their CC lists.

@Supersoph13 everyone has great sugestions. :)
Just to add my two cents in, there is some amazing CC out there. I don't use a ton of cc. I have a couple of eyes, skins and a few hairs. I get most of my stuff from Mod the Sims.
I have a couple of befores and afters to share:

Just a side note... Default means it will show up by default on all sims. Non-default means you need to apply it to sims via create a sim.

One thing that I find essential, apart from some of the things noted by other players, is eyebrows! Eyebrows make all the difference. If I had go back to bare bones, I would have a good default skin, default eyes, default replacement eyebrows and facial hair. Not that I ever would cut back that much ;)

I'm back with pictures XD I decided to add a new comment so you would get a notification.

Here is an example, although the game didn't pick up my graphics card but this is basically how sims look without a CC skin.

And one I personally like, not a big difference but noticeable, it adds pores and veins to your sims.

It works in the game I have not run into problems yet.

Thank you everyone! So I downloaded a skin from Pralinesims, think it was the Pure Skin Natural one and I got the watercolour contacts by Elexis on ModtheSims, both non-default, as a test and well now.....I think I'm going to find it difficult to stop when it comes to CC, haha! My Sim before and after, both no make-up apart from base game eyeliner on 'after' pic.

    ...mmm....I like CC....

I'm going to try some other skins/eyes/etc and see what I like the best  #happydays

@GaiaHypothesis Your Sim Rosie is the one I saw posted on the forums somewhere, when I was reading different threads! - seeing how beautiful she is, is what got me thinking about using something to change my sims in the first place! haha, in that post you had mentioned the Glow nosemask and I wrote that down for future reference, cause I wasn't exactly sure what it was  and now how funny/awesome that you posted a link to her. haha. Thanks

Aww she looks so much prettier with the new skin. Honestly I don't think sims 3 sims are ugly but the EA skin is ugly and unflattering.

@Supersoph13 HAH! Yes and she's really a perfect example of a sim that IMO is just lovely with very little CC makeup and no CC sliders. And her half sister is AMAZING too. I don't know how they came to be, but somehow they were spawned in my laptop (basegame only) game and they are so much perfect. I highly suggest the nosemasks by brntwaffles, I would choose those over most other makeups.

    Happy hunting!!!!

Here's why I don't understand the 'the sims look plum' discussion. Even if they look plum to you, there are so many very different cc skins you can choose from (from Maxis match to ultra realistic to anime like) that all you have to do is find the skin that suits you and install it.

    Never mind. I'm trash.

I also use Kurasoberina's primer by the way, along other skins by the same person. (Epiphantic, freckled fruit) and really like them. You can ad a bit of facial make-up and go for 'realistic', but you can also go to the more 'cartoony' or 'maxis-match' side *cough couch maxis match and cartoony aren't the same at all*. The skin easily adapts to your sims's facial structure and won't change it either, which a lot skins tend to do.

Yeah i can see now how a different skin can change the appearance from a little to a lot, but i didn't understand exactly what they were before - i thought they *just* changed the skin colour, i didn't realise the amount of extra detail they could add. And i didn't know if custom sliders were necessary, like if everyone used them. I'm not one to test out different types of CC, one its a hassle and two i don't want to mess up my game, so i thought i'd ask and everyone has been so helpful, giving me the exact advice that i wondered about

@Supersoph13 I acknowledge that sliders can be useful when trying to recreate a particular look but, from my experience, a lot of diversity can be achieved just by using the sliders that come with the game. I have recently downloaded a couple of extra sliders, but nothing much like a nose bump and a chin dimple, but I have barely used them. The nose bump I got because I downloaded another simmer's sim and I felt it would be wrong to use him without the nose bump and the chin dimple because I feel it was something that should have been added from the beginning. I have only used the chin dimple once.
This is an early draft of one of my sims and only EA sliders are used.

@Supersoph13 I did end up getting him pretty spot-on but unfortunately due to the facial animations of the sims, he looks nothing like him in game. Having said that, he is one of my favourite sims :) I am actually playing a baby challenge with him at the moment and he has 11 kids so far :D

    @06Bon06 Thanks :)

@Mikezumi that's good that he's still one of your fav sims  is that the 100 baby challenge? I have never done that one, i don't often start long running challenges because more often than not i end up getting a new idea, starting a new game and never going back to my other saved games. I have over 20 different saves on my desktop that realistically i'll never play again but i can't bring myself to delete them, some of which are legacy's that i've never returned to :sweat_smile:
