When you send your Sims to a Community Lot...

Rflong7Rflong7 Posts: 36,588 Member
... What type of lot do you like to use?

Is it the All In One- with everything you can think to do? Or a specific type- like the Grocery for food; a restaurant for dining; a club or beach and so on?

I like different themes of Nearly all in one. Like the parks for families but no restaurant at the Park. The mall but no playground on that lot. That way I can have different families out at their favorite lot. :)

I tend to like them smaller and more focused as opposed to objects everywhere that cause Sims to scatter.
Rodneys Hideout in TS2 was one of my faves.

I prefer more focused lots. Like, maybe a grocer on one side, and clothing on the other, then on another lot perhaps a library, and on another lot, the arcade for community fun, and off to one side somewhere a magazine/computer store. Then the community pool, etc.

You're welcome. Mostly I like splitting things up because it allows me to create a large "downtown" area like in real life. Maybe I'd do things differently if I had the whole collection and could do businesses and such, and thereby create a mall, but since I don't, I've tried to use one of the large "blocks" to put lots around and make them all community, and put houses on other "blocks" around them.

I've begun thinking though, that if I do another custom neighborhood, I might break things up even further and have mini-neighborhoods within the one big one. That could allow me to scroll around the big neighborhood less when I want people to go to a community lot. They could just go to a local store, instead of commute to the middle of town or the other side of town. I don't know. I'll have to play around with things.

I prefer clothes shops for when Sims grow up. They go, get the clothes, and go home. Whether it's just a clothes shop or an all in one doesn't matter to me.

I hate the drop in energy extended stays cause since time is paused on the home lot. It's aggravating and the only mod out there isn't officially updated for Apartment Life and I'm not going to risk my game for something that minor of an aggravation to me. Community lots aren't that interesting to me in the first place.

Not sure which mod you mean, but Squinge's MoreCaffeine was updated for AL and works like a charm - one cup of regular coffee gulped down and your sims are good to go again with a full energy bar. It's very quick, almost cheaty.

As for the original question, I like beaches and public pools both in- and outdoor. It is usually the first thing I built, with different sections for family fun, a bar for dating and maybe a specialised food stall. My current college neighborhood f.e. has a thermal bath as only community lot. In the entry section I put some clothing stalls to supply my college kids with new outfits. It doesn't even look out of place, as the venue may believeably sell swimming trunks and swimsuits.
After that I build or download whatever I need, but only when that need arises, never in advance.

That's why if it's an adult, I send them to a community lot on their day off, and if it's a teen, I send them on the weekend. That way, when they get home, they can just sleep and get their energy back. Easy peasy.

There's a mod that makes it so if it's 8 am when they leave the lot and 12 pm when they return that the Sim or Sims you take to the community lot won't return home until the lot reaches 12 pm. It was never updated for Apartment Life or confirmed by the modder that it's fine. While players have said they've played without issues, I don't feel comfortable playing with it.

I may have to look at getting that mod. At least I'll be able to send teens and older to community lots without issue with that mod.

Yea, I don't like that they get off on the sleeping schedule when that happens, I don't want them sleeping during the day. It gets them on an off schedule with their sleeping. I know that sending them to bed will fix the energy problem. It's that solution that I don't like, because it turns Sims who sleep during the night into Sims who sleep during the day.

Well, I've never had an issue getting them back on their normal schedule. If I send them to a community lot on a Saturday, I just have them nap for a while, then make them get up and do stuff, and keep doing that until they are back on their "normal" schedule by Sunday. Not that big a deal.

I don't like it. It annoys me (the reason is it just does, I can't explain it it just does). I'd rather they do something useful if they're on the lot and it's not normal sleeping hours for them. I know it's not a huge issue if it happens, but I prefer it to not happen so my Sims don't go off of the community lot for very long. Short of buying things and public woohoo, there's nothing on a community lot that I can't do on the main lot. And buying things and public woohoo don't take very long. So my solution: don't send them to community lots for long periods of the time, solves the problem for me.
