Sims3Launcher Has Stopped Working - Windows is checking for a solution... - Launch Error

I just(I believe one month ago) bought a new PC with Windows 7, since I prefer it. I downloaded the Sims 3, Supernatural, Isla Paradiso and Showtime through Origin when the computer still had Windows 7, and just two weeks ago I upgraded it to Windows 10(I found out that game manufacturers are going to focus on Windows 10 :/). I downloaded some custom content from The Exchange and ran the game. I noticed that the game was in Dutch and wanted to change it back to English. I couldn't find the option so I went and followed the following instructions from a troubleshooting website:
  1. Start the registry editor with regedit.
  2. Backup the registry with File – Export.
  3. Click on the arrow next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  4. Click on the arrow next to SOFTWARE.
  5. 64-Bit Systems: Click on the arrow next toWOW6432NODE.
  6. Click on the arrow next to SIMS.
  7. Click on The Sims 3.
  8. Double-click on Locale on the right-hand side
  9. Change the value to the language you want your game in (values see below)
  10. I don’t know if the value under Country needs changing too. Mine is set to CH and I play in English and I have no issues.
  11. Repeat 6-10 for all folders in SIMS (Expansions)
  12. Close the registry editor.
  13. Start the game. Your user files, including saves will be gone now as if you’ve renamed the user folder.
  14. Close the game and go to documents\electronicArts. You should have two folder in here now. One in your old language and one in the new one.
  15. To recover your old savegames and user files, simply copy the files from the old language over to the new one.
  16. Start the game. All your old saves and user data will be back. Enjoy.

But when I started the game, it showed the small white Windows troubleshooting box with the following text:
Sims3Launcher Has Stopped Working - Windows is checking for a solution...
Naturally, I tried to uninstall and reinstall the game, but to no avail. The same message pops up.
Does anyone know a solution?

The game will run on windows 10. Did you upgrade your video card for windows 10? What is your video card?

The exchange is full of bad cc and its possible you downloaded some of it. This could cause the game not to start. Documents folder, Electronic Arts Folder to the Sims 3 folder. Pull the sims 3 folder to desktop, start your game, the game will generate a new sims 3 folder. See if the game will start. If it does good chance you downloaded some bad cc . You should then replace the new sims 3 folder you created with the old sims 3 folder you placed at desktop and try to locate the bad Cc . See this blog http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/custom-content-cc/bad-cc

@igazor do you know how to change the language? Thanks

I can't be sure, but I suspect the instructions being followed above are for disc installs, not Origin. Or at least from before Patch 1.69 came along. I would think the entire game, together with all EP/SPs would need to be uninstalled, Registry cleaned, and then reinstalled from the beginning in the language wanted.

We could ask the author though, to see if she has any further input.

With Origin, the language can be changed the same way Sims 4 can.

Go to Origin, click on game properties and then change the language there.

Depends on the version you own though.

I'm not completely sure(not very good with computers) but I think my video card is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960.

I managed to change the language, I took the folder of the sims out, but it still shows the same message popping up. I also can't seem to be able to uninstall the game properly. I don't see uninstalling the game as any of the Origin options and if I use the Control Panel it just doesn't do anything.

Here is the procedure to manually uninstall the TS3 base game. There are similar procedures for each EP/SP.

hit the windows key and R key. In the run box Type DxDiag Hit ok and then click on display tab. It will show you your video card and last driver installed. This is for desktop to install the latest driver for a GTX 960 on desktop http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/105037/en-us

If you have a laptop you need to go to your laptop manufacturer web and update all your drivers for windows 10

I've never heard of removing Origin and putting it back again actually uninstalling the game, but I suppose anything is possible. Though if you didn't clean the Windows Registry in between, then the Registry settings from the former broken install will likely still be present.

What you may have to do is uninstall Origin, the base game, and all EP/SPs. Clean the Registry using the free version of CCleaner, and start over.

Forgot to mention I also deleted the Origin Games folder. My bad. I'll run CCleaner and see if it works then.

Uninstalled Origin as you said, ran CCleaner and reinstalled both Origin and The Sims. It finally launched and it works just fine now! Thank you for helping me resolve the issue ^-^

Deleted the Origin Games folder...well yes, that is where the game programs installed and managed by Origin live, so after doing that they just wouldn't be on your computer anymore. Therefore, they would have essentially been "uninstalled" but not completely so.

Anyway, glad you got it all reinstalled and working again! :)

I recently lost my mind, and downloaded some CC from the exchange. Wow, what a mess! It messed the game up soo bad, I deleted the recently added CC but still I did click on repair game, it did fix it. I will now only download CC from there from folks I have other things from. They do a good job. It is sketchy at best for sure. It's a shame too.
