Butlers, Maids, and active households? (NVM, figured it out)

I have a question. I just finished a big neighborhood project (70+ new sims) with the thought to play rotationally. I'd like to get a butler for a couple of the households, but I seem to remember that when I got a maid for families in the past, the maid quits working if you switch active households and you have to hire them again and I don't know if butlers work the same way. Or am I completely wrong about that? Does anyone know? Will I have to hire a new butler every time I switch back to the family?
EDIT: Just figured it out (I think). Seems like butlers are different because they're live-in. That's a relief. I cheated my sims' relationships all the way up with him, though, just to make sure he wouldn't quit. LOL.
