Need help finding these problem shoes (Store content)

OK, I know how to find and get rid of problematic custom content, but I've got one item under Shoes in CAS that's driving me bonkers. It has the store icon on it so I assume it came with some outfit or set I bought in the Store. Problem is, the clipping is terrible and it seems to be the default pair of shoes on half my Sims.

It's a pair of black and white Converse-type sneakers -- you know, black uppers with a white sole and white laces, not high tops. There don't appear to be any socks yet Sims' legs clip at the point where there would be sock tops. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'd love to delete them.

THANK YOU!

I'll try to get a screenshot, thanks. There's a little Store icon on them.... but I could be remembering it wrong without the game open in front of me!

There are are few converse on crinrict's list of bad cc http://sims3.crinrict.com/badcc/en/BadCC_Clothing.html

Sometimes when CC is based on a game or store item, the item inherits the "wrong" icon when it's released. Sometimes it picks up both.

I would go with looking for the CC version first if the item matches what crinrict reports on. If not, you would need Kuree's EasyCASP Editor to disallow the base game (or store) shoes so that you won't see them in CAS and other sims won't keep picking them up. From all reports though, in case this matters, EasyCASP is broken on Patch 1.69.

Many thanks to you both. I suspect bad cc with the wrong icon now, for sure. EasyCASP sounds great since I am "Just say no to Patch 1.69!" team.

OK, got them in screenshots. They look like the Converse ones in Crinrict's list of bad cc, but I can't find a package file by that name to delete. Maddening. They're listed under all types of clothing -- everyday, sleepwear, athletic, etc. Help tracking them down to delete is MUCH appreciated!

Ah. Often means they were attached to a downloaded sim and the only way to get rid of them might be to get rid of the sim in question. If there were any. Could also be downloaded lots or worlds I suppose, but seems less likely.

If the item was Launcher installed, again hiding in some other sims3pack, then it will be in one of your dbc bundles in DCCache. How tricky that will be to find depends on how much such content you have, as the Launcher can only display a limited amount of installed content at a time. But the source, if you can find it, would have to go first.

Thanks! I have downloaded some Sims in the past that I wouldn't mind deleting. Will try that and report back.

Sob. I have deleted a bunch of Sims I got on the Exchange, deleted some dl'd clothing and shoes I wasn't interested in any more, cleared the DCBackup cache, and the problem persists. Is there any way to find out the actual name of the file here? thx

EDIT: Never mind! I waited a bit and went back into CAS and now they're gone. Huzzah. Thank you all for your help!

EDIT: Aaaaand.... now they're back. :-( The Shoes From Hell That Will Not Die. Help!?!

That means they are likely installed in a dbc bundle in DCCache, as I mentioned above. This happened to me and so many others with the Arezzo Bathroom Counter, also originally attached to a downloaded sim (don't ask). These are the files that the Launcher reads when it displays installed content, but unfortunately it only displays a few hundred items at a time with store and custom content all mixed together.

One approach is to dump all of your dbc files in DCCache, thus immediately losing all of your Launcher installed custom content. The ebc files can stay, those are store content only. Then reinstall all of your custom content sims3packs, except of course for the problem item.

The other approach is to use the Launcher to examine the contents of one dbc file at a time only, until you find and can delete the unwanted item. Also called Method by Mell, outlined towards the end of this page.

Both are painful, but which one is less so depends on how much Launcher installed CC you have. But either way, you do have to be certain that the source of the shoes, the sim or whatever, is really gone and there isn't another one lurking about there or they will just come back after all that work.

Thanks for the ideas. Don't know if this makes any difference, but when I went into CAS again (and those shoes are almost always the default ones on most of my Sims and their outfits) I right-clicked on the shoes in the list and got this box:

    shoes%20bad%20cc%20Log%20CAS%20Parts_zpsntupsdfn.jpg

Before I start the methods above, does that tell anyone anything? thx

Yeah, there is a third strategy that involves opening up each of the dbc files in NRaas Packer (an alternate package editing tool to S3PE) and fishing out the errant item by the hex code that you now have. Or something like that. Afraid that procedure is beyond my expertise, but you could reach out to my colleagues at NRaas for more assistance with that one. In the end, it may not really be more efficient than either of the other two methods, though.

Thanks, you're the best! And I'm registered at NRaas already, wouldn't live without many of the mods there.
