Going back to Sims 2

Misscow1PMisscow1P Posts: 366 Member
I love sims 4, but I decided to check out my Sims 2 Ultimate Collection for old times sake. It didn't feel all that fun to play it, but I remember a year ago when I went back it was actually really fun. What are the things you love about the Sims 2? I feel like I must have been missing something...

What do you usually do when you boot up the game?

Imagination, a story. I highly recommend modding the game with default replacements, make the sims look attractive and realistic. I think you need to have some story going on, some inspiration, some drama.

Yeah, a gameplay mod would be good. Are there any you recommend?

@Misscow1P There's not many gameplay mods, personally, I downloaded a complete new Neighborhood with a bunch of lots from Mod The Sims and I'm playing 5 families rotational style.

    My recommended mods are:
    Graphics: http://modthesims.info/d/290746
Terrain Default replacements: https://curiousb.dreamwidth.org/28103.html (Will make your game look brighter and alive)
    Skin default Replacements: http://sims2defaults.dreamwidth.org/333689.html
    Eyes default replacements: http://sims2defaults.dreamwidth.org/335873.html

I mostly recommend using defaults to make the game more appealing to the eyes.

I recently went back to playing TS2, since I felt TS4 is lacking too many features. Let me tell you something: at the beginning it was "hard", because I was not used to TS2 anymore and it felt like my sims were too needy. But now I am having a BLAST, I had not felt this free playing a sims game since...well since TS2 times. First thing I did was download a bunch of CC (check Lana CC finds on tumblr). For me, the worst part in TS2 is CAS, but CC can turn your game around: there are even conversions of hairs and clothes from TS4 and TS3. Just look at these pictures:

Then I decided to recreate TS1 neighbourhood, just as it was in TS1 (check kalisasims.tumblr.com/post/136350863720/ts1-old-town-downtown-for-ts2 for a recreation of Old Town+Downtown). I created all families from scratch and I am currently modifying the existing community lots to include all features in the sims 2 (bowling, restaurants, hair salon, grocers', etc.). I am also creating a new version of downtown which actually resembles a big city (I LOVE how customisable the neighbourhoods are!!). And I am also having a blast with family playing. I am a rotational player so TS2 fits my playing style. I usually play each family for one week. In TS4 I was bored by thursday since I did not know what else to do with my sims (even with groups, there is not really much to do...). But in TS2 there are SO MANY possibilities and the days fly by. Anyway, if you ever liked TS2 I suggest that you give it a try and after a few hours you'll be completely hooked again! :)
