Thanks for warning me. I was planning to click the link but now I fear it will only 🐸🐸🐸🐸 me off in a terrible way.
I think RF's talking about the bad open worlds is whistling in the dark. This was not a decision. They had to abandon the open worlds because they couldn't handle them technically. I hope in 2019 game technology will be more advanced!
so... in other words the fans have no influence on the sims as a franchise anymore. we can take it or leave it. it's rachel's way or the highway. i get it. no, actually i won't get it. i'll gladly take the highway.

Obviously he doesn't.... from the interview: "GC: So what are your medium and short term priorities for The Sims 4 at the moment? I was trying to check last night, and you still don’t have toddlers?"
That was the most depressing thing I've read today. I just do not understand the whole telemetry crap. The Sims was always about THE SIMS. I don't think any of us wanted to see a child pop out of a bassinet. Whether you like toddlers or not, that's obviously the next stage of life after infancy. This game has always been about playing with life, I just don't understand.
I try to be as optimistic as I can be regarding the future of this game, but in my opinion it doesn't look very bright. It doesn't sound like EA wants to make the game that we want.
The second I read the part about Telemetry being ONE of the MANY ways they make decisions I thought, "this is going to be the number one thing people on this forum are going to take and catastrophize about."
She says it so off-hand, and notes that it's just one small part of a really complex decision making process, but I guess it would be better if they used no in-game data at all? Just went by how they felt and the comments they happen to see on forums?
Everyone says the best way to make decisions is to use emotion, hearsay and ignore any evidence. *eye rolls*
Anyway, I thought that was an interesting article. It was cool getting a little bit of insight into things. It feels like the reigns are loosening a liiiiitle bit on the communication front, which is at least progress.
No. This is just a perfect example of confirmation bias.
I didn't play TS3 or comment about it, but from what I hear toddlers were annoying in that iteration, which would arguably result in an increase of players ageing them up or not playing them. Does this mean players didn't want toddlers, no. But if that is how you want to interpret it...
Also, was this the case for TS2? We'll never know as we didn't have to worry about being spied on 24/7. To segue into the problems with telemetry: not all players want EA to spy on their game. When I buy a hamburger I don't invited the cashier home to watch me and observe how I eat it. The same thing goes for turning off EA telemetry. I'm sure a lot of adult players with half a brain in their heads do so. Finally, good luck getting stats from all the fans who have stopped playing TS4 because it S-U-C-K-S. Or you can assume that everyone loves the game, since telemetrics show that those who have it on and are enjoying the game as is... are well... enjoying the game as is
Finally, I'm calling 🐸🐸🐸🐸. Originally, the toddler stage was planned for TS4, it was stated ALL lifestages would be present. Then they were yanked and it was stated that they--like pools were difficult to implement in the base game. Now they weren't implemented because of telemetry. B-friggin'-S. What was the point of their survey then? What was the whole, about toddlers and pools article? What was the 20,000+ petition about? Do people really have such a short term memory in a year?! Or perhaps, just maybe... the devs still don't know how to implement a generations EP without hosing it because TS4's solid foundation is about as solid as ice cream on a summer day. Now RF is going to spin it like: well, really the fans don't want them anyway...?!
Please, for the love of Will Wright, do NOT let RF anywhere near TS5.
Sorry but you heard wrong. Toddlers in Sims 3 aren't annoying at all. Don't blame Sims 3 for this. Even when it had some things wrong, toddlers weren't among them (nor was open world). The fact they can't cuddle a dog or can't be bathed doesn't make them annoying, that's animations. I do think they should add a lot more fun stuff to do with toddlers but that goes for Sims 2 as well. They could scrap the nonsense of teaching them how to walk and talk for instance.
How is not having an open world is making you feel closer to the town? It makes me feel disconnected because I have to go through a loading screen to get connected to my neighbor that is not connection. Maybe she needs to go dance some more and get a new vision.
I do wonder if Maxis realizes the reason most people didn't use story progression in Sims 3 is because many used one of the two mods that made a far better story progression? I know they're aware of MATY and NRaas and their popularity, but if they go by telemetry, it's just "woops, no one plays with story progression." Same with the supernaturals. I used them, but they were turned off in the Sims 3 menu and I let NRaas handle them.
Telemetry has huge issues when it comes to interpretation. If there is only one or two play styles that has the most to do in the game, then of course you're going to have more people doing those things. Toddlers in the Sims 3 -- were they unpopular because people don't like playing that life stage, or because in Sims 3, there wasn't enough to do with them? In Sims 4, people age up babies quickly -- is it because family play is dead, or is it because babies are seriously boring objects?
Data interpretation is not straight forward. Ugh. Well, at least I know this much -- my style of play, which does include families and an open world (I like having my sims all in different areas doing different things) is not going to be supported as long as the current management of the game is making decisions. It's good information to have, at the very least.
so... in other words the fans have no influence on the sims as a franchise anymore. we can take it or leave it. it's rachel's way or the highway. i get it. no, actually i won't get it. i'll gladly take the highway.
That was great DLC in Fallout. Mind you, a highway in TS4 would have a loading screen every mile or kilometer, depending on your region.

GC: I was quite addicted to The Sims 2 for a while, but then I didn’t really like the open world element in the previous game – and I know that fans are divided on that issue. RF: It’s been a contentious issue. But my feeling is that with the open world it’s harder to feel as connected with the town and your sims.
You honestly want me to believe that being yanked out of my life simulation into a loading screen just to knock on a next door neighbor's door, is a better way to make me feel connected to my town and Sims? Please don't insult my intelligence, just don't. Please stop selling me cow pies and telling me they’re chocolate. I love The Sims, but I feel like EA/Maxis needs to level with us about why TS4 is built this way.
she really, really thinks we're all stupid. and i look forward to seeing this cow pie of a game giving her mud facial.

I also like that past tense there. I liked Sims 4. I 'liked'? When? Before he started doing better things with his life?
This interview is depressing. The interviewer strengthens all her wrong ideas. Open worlds destroy the feeling? Photorealism would be terrible? Obviously he is no simmer.
I'm a Simmer since shortly after The Sims launch. I've played every version of the game, with at least half the EPs for all of them. I wasn't a fan of open world and definitely don't want photorealism. You can't just peg Simmers that easily - and that's part of the challenge of making this game, I'm sure.

I've said this before:
If they have made the decision to exclude toddlers for this series they wouldn't say it outright because they know a lot of people would walk away from the Sims 4. They're just beating around the bush at this point.
Smelly cat, Smelly Cat
What are they feeding you?
Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat
It's not your fault!
So I continued reading even after finding out the lie at the first sentence because who doesn't wa nt to read Rachel's stupid "answers"
So anyways I love how she tries to make everything cut out was part of the "plan" when in reality they just were too lazy to put them in. I mean look at this --> GC: So you’re satisfied that not having toddlers was the right choice?
RF: That’s the decision that we made based on all of the information that we had at the time. So absolutely, I feel like it’s the best decision for the game to date. I’m not talking about future stuff. But I do think it’s important to know, that players play in very different ways. We see all kinds of different play styles and family players are very passionate, so are players that play other ways.
And I want to make sure that all of those voices are considered when people are thinking about whether or not we’ve included the right things. Because we do, we take it very seriously about whether or not we’re approaching all of those different play styles. We take it just as seriously as the players do that are asking for the things that they want.
I don't recall fans saying they didn't want TADDLERZ in the game as "most voted" nonethelesss some of the people didn't even say they hate TADDLERZ till EA announced TADDLERZ are not coming. Also, wasn't the The Sims made SPECIFICALLY for Family Play (it isn't always family play but a hige portion of it was to grow a family and see how it turns out with all the stories and so called "accidents")
Appearantly cutting off family players was the "best decison ever". GG Rachel

Also how does taking out toddlers seem be what everyone wants? There was a petition about toddlers with a gang load of signatures that proves otherwise. That petition showed a lot people wanted them in the game.

I dare to say we all dream secretly of photorealism. If you look at the mods for TS4, they all go in this direction. That said, I generally like the look of Sims 4 except the blue sky and the painted clouds. But for the future I want much more.
Well, that was interesting. Thank you for sharing it, I might never have seen it, otherwise. I do have to say one thing, however. When it comes to their telemetry, the information is skewed. Now, why do I say this, and how can I know? For instance, the toddlers in Sims3 were so stripped of interactions, they became boring to many. The response to boring? Age them up. Hence, it appears as if many aren't playing with toddlers. Skewed information. And a really bad way to base future games on.
I'm trying very hard not to be brokenhearted at the moment. They said at the time they announced toddlers weren't included after all, that it was due to the length of time required for their animations. This led some of us to believe it was only a matter of time. This interview all but throws that out of the window.
While some would simply tell me to go back to either or both Sims2 and 3, my response is, I would and have upon occasion, however, the innovative CAS and the different Traits and the overall game play of Sims4 all but makes it impossible to do that. Either way, now, I'm dissatisfied.
EA really needs to let Maxis just tell us what will actually get added and what' won't already. Maxis should be showing them the response to this interview. When you don't let your people actually give answers about the future, nobody is going to read what you do have to say positively. I really, really like Sims 4 — I'm that player — but I really, really did not like the mixed-up messaging in this interview. You're listening to us? Prove it: prove it with transparency. That means not giving us five different reasons five different times for what was or was not done earlier, and it means answering key questions about what's planned.

I enjoy TS4 and even I can see that this interview is lame. It's so softball it's worthless.
The only other thing I would say is that this is exactly what happens when data is put into the hands of people who clearly don't know how to use it. You can't just go - toddler is the least-played lifestage - and then figure it's because people don't like them. Statistics should lead you to questions, not just make whatever conclusions you feel like making.
