I'm wanting to start making a large world based mostly upon Romania and the Carpathian mountains. I've never used CAW before so this will take a lot of practice before I really start the actual world. Right now I'm working on learning how to make natural looking mountains, with pictures of the Carpathians as inspiration.
I'm wanting to create a large world with a mountain range serving as a border, a hilly/slightly less mountainous and heavily forested rural part, a town bisected by a river (situated more-or-less in the middle of the forest), a small river delta wetland/marsh, and a small black sea resort coast.
I will try to make the town look as authentically Romanian as I can without using cc (perhaps excluding rabbithole rugs, because I may use those). It will be inspired by București (Bucharest) and other Romanian cites, but also a little bit by Budapest (yes I know that's actually in Hungary, but the river in this is inspired by the Danube). The town will not be massive though, buy hopefully reasonably sized.
The forested area will be inspired by Transylvania and the a few other different influences like a medieval castle/digsite inspired by a castle in Slovakia. I will have an area inspired by the Hoia forest which is famous for alleged paranormal activity. I will place a heavily forested big park lot with tents near the road and spawners for rare minerals and I don't know if there are specific spawners for will o' the wisps, but if there are I will place those in the park and in the few houses nearby which I will hopefully populate with ghosts (assuming CAS made ghosts transfer well with custom worlds, please correct me if I am wrong). I will place in the forests a few sporadic clusters of smaller houses and a few castles with real world equivalents (or at least they will be inspired by real world castles). I will also build a wooden church like the wooden churches of Maramureș.
The delta will have swamp rushes, willows, and oaks with a few fishing spots. To the south of that I will put a resort, a few houses, and a bit further south a lot on the beach and cluster of houses kind of inspired by Vama Veche.
I will put supernaturals in the world (I will challenge myself though since after supernatural came out all of my sims have been supernaturals, and try to make less than ~35% of the population supernaturals unless asked to make more sims be supernaturals. I will explain their presence in their family descriptions using Romanian and south Slavic folklore (especially the vampires).
Demographically I will try to make about ~70-80% be Romanian, ~10-20% Hungarian, ~2-5% Rromani, and maybe a few households that are Ukrainian, Russian, Serbian, German, French, Italian, Chinese, Turkish, and/or Greek, and a single sim that will either maybe English, Scottish, or American (with their own story). This is subject to change.
I will most likely use all EP's (with the potential exception of ITF) and potentially all SP's excluding Sweet Treats. I will use Monte Vista, Lucky Palms (the fountain specifically), More Magic set, Midnight Hollow, the sauna from Sunlit Tides, the Bohemian garden set (for the plants and lights mostly), the Vegetable and lemonade stands, the Mill set, Amore venue, and Dragon Valley (gold edition), items from the Tudor and medieval sets, and occasionally other store items. This is subject to change.
Any suggestions, recommendations, or advice are more than welcome.
Abandoned Casino in Constanța on the Black Sea coast (Since I have the Up the Ante Collection I will do a now and then manor like thing and by default have the abandoned casino in the world (maybe as a junkyard?), but upload a fully working casino to the exchange.)
I found a cool way to fit the vault of antiquity into the world.
"In her 1885 article Transylvanian Superstitions, Scottish author Emily Gerard mentioned a peculiar school of magic called ‘Scholomance’ where—according to folk tradition—the Devil himself instructed ten scholars in all of the scientific, magical, and theological arts. Once the courses were finished, the Devil kept one of the scholars to himself as a blood payment. Afterwards, the Devil taught his new apprentice to make thunder and lightning. Gerard reported that the school was located near a fabled lake in the midst of the Carpathian mountains. This legend probably derives from oral retellings about Solomonari—pre-Christian wizards and priests who were said to control the weather and ride on the backs of dragons. Curiously, an area outside of Brasov named ‘Pietrele lui Solomon’ (Solomon’s Rocks) was also historically associated with scholars and solemn oaths. Some authors however, such as Jason Colavito have linked the Scholomance story to cultural memories of the indigenous Dacian religion. You can still see many traces of Ancient Dacia (related to Ancient Thrace) in Romania today, such as the Fortresses of the Orastie Mountains."
I'll make a small foggy lake in/near the mountains and put the vault by a waterfall with a precarious looking path leading to it. (hopefully)
Would there be a way I could put in a chest filled with dragon eggs too? Though I don't have the black dragons, which would be even more fitting with being near the Vault of antiquity. If I can figure it out maybe I could add a very simple tomb to put them in then hide the key somewhere in the world or even make it require three keys and hide them all around the world.
Maybe i can work in the ruins from Dragon Valley as being Dacian ruins too.
Those are some beautiful inspiration pictures. I am new to world building myself, so I have no particular advice but I hope that you enjoy yourself, it can be quite an interesting process.
This sounds very exciting! I hope to see the finished world!
Thanks! I'm not very far in though, beyond a lot of planning in my head, since I've not been able to get the terrain quite the way I want yet or figure out the best way to put trees in the forest while looking both realistic and good. Unfortunately I've had to take a hiatus from working on this because my classes are getting in the way. Hopefully around Thanksgiving and Christmas I'll have time to work on it.
This is exactly the world I have been wanting forever! Only with NO modern buildings or roads! Roads from Dragon Valley would be fine. So...how's this world coming???

I'm still working on terrain to get it just how i want it. I guess I'm a bit of a perfectionist (plus I still have not had much time to work on this world.) This world is inspired by modern Romania alongside Romanian and Balkan mythology and folklore, so It's going to be a little more like urban fantasy in the town portion. and the rural part will have roads like rural Romanian roads, which based upon google images searches, seem similar to the roads Moonlight falls. When I get to putting down roads I'll need to find (make?) some European looking roads with white stripes for the town and some less central parts should use either the French road or the one from Dragon Valley. While I was planning on making a brutalistic communist era part of this world, most of the other buildings should look more early 20 century or 19 century at the most modern.

(Yes some of these images are from Ukraine, not Romania, but I just googled "Carpathians" and went into google images.
