I keep seeing this thread pop up due to all of @luckyheather's amazing posts. I finally decided to try one myself, as I've never made a "real" tiny house yet (I always kind of cheat). So I went back to basics to see what I could fit into just a plain house on wheels. The tiniest size, 32 squares, to give myself a real challenge. Here's what I ended up with.
I've got it on one of the tiny little 15x20 lots in Newcrest.
Views of the deck and potting shed (I guess I cheated a little with the potting shed):
And the back, you can see it's a typical tiny house on a trailer. Also stuck the garbage can back here
On entering, you come into the kitchen, which is a pretty good size for a tiny house I think. Plus eating area.
And then the main room. I tried to fit all the main things in. It's got a dresser, desk with computer, TV, couch, bed, two side tables and a "bookcase". I found it really hard to place windows, because I needed the wall space. So I ended up actually raising the roof a bit and putting a row of windows all around it.
Here's a view of the main room, you can see what I mean with the windows up around the top. Other than that there's just the one long row beside the barstools.
And then the bathroom, which is kind of tight, but still fits a full bath/shower combo. There's a sink too, it's just off the bottom of the screen.
Here's the whole house from above. I did the two bump-outs at either end to save space. Initially I had a 4x8 house, to give me exactly 32 tiles. But that gave a lot of wasted space in the bathroom (which then took 8 tiles), and the kitchen/entry (which took 12 tiles, 14 if you count the space taken by barstools). That left only 10 tiles for everything else! Because with such a narrow house, it was hard to split the bathroom off while actually making use of the awkward space left over from it. Taking the four corners out gave me 4 extra squares, which is an entire extra "row" of tiles in this house, making it actually 9 tiles across at its widest instead of just 8. I was able to snug the tub into one of the 1x2 spots, and the fridge and sink into the other. That put the bathroom down to 6 tiles, the kitchen/entry to 10+2 for barstools, and left a generous 14 tiles for everything else, lol. Anyway, I did manage to cram a fair bit in without making it too crowded, I think.
It's fully play-tested, you can find it in the gallery. Btw my name has changed, I'm now WeeFurBall in the gallery. I don't know if I should change my forum name to match, or if it matters, but anyway I had a couple comments asking if my name is a drug reference (it's not), so I changed it and it only changed in the gallery.
It was a fun challenge! And looks cute with the trailer hitch. Not sure I'd want to actually play it, although you do get the nice bonuses for having a 32-tile house. I guess if you put it somewhere with no weather, the outside would be usable year-round. Hope you enjoy!
@luckyheather Wow! your builds are amazing and have helped to inspire me to start building at a much more refined state than my previous boxes in Sims 4; especially now that I am in a reduced pain and seizures phase again.
@brizgal thanks for the compliment and I am pleased my builds inspire you to build, its funny that builds start with boxes and then we have to make them look more interesting with all the stuff from packs and kits and of course Debug items are so useful if you know the cheat codes bb.showhiddenobjects and bb.showliveeditobjects as not everyone knows them. I find them essential for garden plants and more especial for cheaper homes.
Sorry to hear about your illness I hope it improves for you so you can enjoy playing. I know too well about pain because of my back I take pills every day all day, the sims helps me have fun while I sit all day and I have played since sims 1 so im lost without the game. Feel better soon xxx
@luckyheather Thank you so much for your advice and kind words. I am another long term Sims player - from Sims 1 days. Due to the neuropathic pain… from the spinal injuries I am specialising in the tiny home builds because they take a lot less time. I use Sims games as part of my rehab to improve my eye hand, fine motor and memory skills. The showhiddenobjects cheat is one of my regulars, but I rarely use the liveeditobjects very often. Been YouTubing the tricks, tips and hacks for building and learning a lot.
Hi @brizgal my pleasure to help any fellow simmer if I can, yes Tiny homes are great for being able to do 1 in a day I was playing Fallout 4 for a while so now back building and James Turner's Challenge is great to do #JTRandomTinyHome and he has a Random Generator he created here https://jamesturner.yt/randomchallenge/tiny-home You can just use it anytime you want and have fun finding the world to use, thats what I have done so far. Some are like 15 Tiles for 4 sims so I just re-roll
Thanks but my back has been the same since I was in my mid twenty's when I lifted too much at work so 1 bone slips out and im in pain every day but used to it. I hope you improve x hugs
@luckyheather thank you. I had found the jtrtinyhome link a few days ago and have managed to complete some of them. I’ve shared them to the gallery and have even had some downloads. I have managed to do most of them without moo cheat. I did play around with it in one of the builds. I have an idea for a new build inspired by the outside of one of your challenge shells. I’m planning to hopefully start today.
My gallery name is OzSimsFamily. Any constructive feedback or tips appreciated.
Hi @brizgal I had a quick look at your tiny homes and you did well despite how small they are, the thoughts I had looking at them was mainly about the gardens, I must admit I took years to improve my gardens Lol and im still learning especially with the terrain paint and I rarely use the terrain tool as plants are hard to place on raised areas. I think you put some great items outside but need to put them in little areas, for example the kids toys in one area could have a low fence with a gap and you could use debug fence made smaller using [ and maybe sometimes a sand pit with terrain paint as they can make sandcastles with that if you leave an empty space in it Plants I mostly use from debug and my way is groups of plants mostly rather than flower beds I like a more random look, plus sometimes I use 2 different fences or part wall and part hedge by using debug pieces. You can make nice areas by just using paved walkways and 1 of the concrete floors is Free! I use it for car drives as well See my Teens Dream Home above.
Another thing I like to do is have a few Skill objects inside and outside if possible and the more the house budget can afford the better and make sure they suit he ages of the sims going to live there. Oh by the way there is a sort of room cheat you can do if you need to, it doesnt have a floor or ceiling but great for a little greenhouse. What you do is make a ground floor room and leave 1 piece of the wall out and add that by putting a piece out of the room then just lift it into that gap You can add any flooring inside it or if a greenhouse just add dirt to plant in. To add roof either put a 1 tile square room inside and use that to put roof on top, then delete that square, or use the house already built to put roof and just stretch that over to that room (attached spare room or garden room) and change size to fit it.
Oh I forgot, I usually try to add some kind of water display as I love some sort of movement from a put together (debug) fountain using water sprays or a pond or pool if I can. If you have Discover University there are some debug toys either cheap or free thanks to the Robotics bench plus the Football is great for an activity.
I hope these ideas help and by the way that random generator of James Turner you can click generate until you find one you like, I do and write them in my note book as I dont intend on doing a 15 tile room for an entire family Lol. Have Fun
