Triangular Shadows on Floor - Found a Fix (5/29)

Has anyone else experienced anything like this with your builds?

trishadows.jpg

This is a room on the 2nd floor on a diagonal. No other areas in the house have this issue, but the only other areas with this particular facing are balconies, not enclosed rooms. I have tried the following:
  • Turned off all lights on the lot
  • Removed all windows from the level
  • Enclosed that particular space in a room
  • Redrew the balcony above as a room
  • Redrew the balcony below as a room
  • Deleted roofs and lighting on roofs

No matter what I do, I cannot get rid of the shadows nor determine their origin (although from turning off all of the lights, I know it must be an exterior lighting issue). If anyone has an idea regarding what might be causing this issue or how to fix it, I would appreciate it!

Edit: The shadows persist throughout all times of day as well.

Does it still show with different flooring? Maybe delete that particular section and then rebuild it afresh?

Thanks for the response @masajo. Yes, the flooring doesn't seem to matter. The only thing I've been able to do to "fix" it is to either build a square room below it or place floor tiles just outside the windows. It's definitely some kind of lighting issue triggered from below the level, since either of those actions block the shadows. Yet it is not from any outside lighting that I have set up, since I have all the lighting turned off. The other thing is if I rotate the house, the shadows remain at the same facing (i.e. left front of lot), so it would seem to be world lighting. I just don't get why time of day does not affect the shadows. It's a weird issue, for sure... I'll probably just cover it up since I can't seem to get to the bottom of it. :#

Vaguely remember seeing this on a diagonal before. Maybe it's that particular lot? Good luck with the cover up :)

Yeah, I've seen it before too, in fact rather recently, but I've looked at so many builds, I can't begin to remember which it was. I tried a different lot and the problem persists, so yeah, I'm stuck. :p Thanks!

Ms. Bry...happens to me all the time. Go up one floor, create a room with walls above this area.....delete the walls THEN use the 'room floor' thingy. hehe Fill in the floor...even if you think it is 'filled' in. Game is crazy!! Hope this helps♥♥

Thanks for trying @Cassee, but that didn't work. In fact, the triangle shadows popped up in the new room above. :p

This happened to me today, @BryonyRae - I had made small square room on top of another one (1 tiles wide) and then deleted the entire thing. When I did that, it left a single dark square tile behind. I checked to see if it didn't delete the roof from the 1 tile room but it did and there were no walls. However, I found out that the game still thought the room was there somehow and the dark tile was actually a shadow cast from the non-existent room. I discovered it by going to the fencing tool and saw that the game gave me an option to place my fence down where the room used to be and it was a one tile square. I fixed it though - I think by making a quick big room on top where the single tile room was and then deleting that.

Did you create that edge for with a series of triangle rooms? Or was it one straight wall? Were you able to wash out the shadows using interior lights above the window, like the cutlass of light or whatever the thin horizontal one is called?

    Definitely an annoying glitch.

@Ash072 The level above it and the level below it are the same shape, but they are balconies, so I used the triangle flat pieces to construct them vs. the triangle room. However, even if I change them to rooms, it does not get rid of the shadows (and indeed I then get shadows in the new rooms!). Lighting doesn't get rid of them at all. I'm just covering them with furniture. It happens to work well enough for the area anyway, luckily. I have tried recreating the problem from scratch on a freshly bulldozed lot, and I can't, so I know that it's something specific to this build and likely does have to do with area(s) not recognized as rooms or something similar. Just going to live with it at this point, thanks though. :)

is it on one of those lots that have had glitches reported? like the no-tile-next-to-fountain ones?

I'd do the same and you and just live with it and cover it up.

No, it's not located on a lot with the slope issue. It is on a lot with the foundation issue, so I tested placing it on a lot that is free of both issues; the shadows persist. I also tried placing it both furnished and unfurnished, with no difference in the shadows. I did discover this issue on another build; it's actually on Pahpay's Four Level Modern Mission home that was entered into my contest. In Pahpay's case, it's on every level, and since his rooms are the same shape on each level, that fits with my experience. Now if I could just figure out what either of us did that created this...

So, while trying to recreate the problem, I inadvertently found a fix. No idea how or why it works, but select your ground floor level, bump it up in height, and the shadows on upper levels should clear. You can then bump it back down or simply undo the change, and the shadows will still be gone. I saved the game, reloaded it, and they were still gone. :) Definitely seems like some kind of a glitch if it can be fixed in this manner.
