My game won't detect Custom Content?

Hi all!
I play the Sims 4 on a Mac desktop, and whenever I try to download custom content by placing the extracted package files into the mod folder, it doesn't show up on the start up menu after I start the game. For some reason, a couple of custom content hairs that I downloaded do show up in game, but now, any other custom content that I try to download isn't even detected by the game. Any suggestions on what I should do?
