Ok, so being able to set a sim to 'care for self' or build skills is better than nothing. It doesn't work with camping gear though. Even if it did it isn't quite good enough. I want to be able to control all my sims. I want to be able to tell sim A to fish at the grotto, sim B to upgrade the oven and sim C to perform a comedy routine at the lounge and they just aren't always going to be on the same lot. It frustrating only being able to choose one sim at a time to do what I want with and every other sim has to follow them if I want control.
We should be able to tell a sim to perform a certain action (upgrade oven) and then switch to another sim and have those actions carried out without having to watch them. Aint nobody got time for that. It makes playing feel like a chore sometimes.

Which must be why there was extensive active discussion with SimGurus (not at them) last month about exactly this
I'm such a micro-manager...it drives me nuts that I can't control the sims I'm not with. Most of the time my families just never go anywhere because it's too much of a hassle.
