Here are my three:
Impractical Jokers:
THURSDAY 10/9 C TruTV
Plot:
- This hidden-camera series follows four lifelong friends -- Brian "Q" Quinn, James "Murr" Murray, Joe Gatto and Sal Vulcano -- who take dares to an outrageous level. Since they were young, the quartet have challenged one another to do ridiculous dares in public. On the show, to find out who is best under pressure, the guys compete in awkward and outrageous hidden-camera hijinks. At the end of each episode, the loser must perform what is deemed to be the most-mortifying challenge yet.

Hack My Life:
TUESDAY 10:30/9:30C TruTV
Plot:
- TV personality Kevin Pereira ("Attack of the Show") and comic Brooke Van Poppelen explore the world of "life hacks": procedures or actions that solve problems, simplify tasks or reduce frustrations. From opening a wine bottle with a shoe, eliminating pet hair on fabric with a squeegee and flip-flop, or using a sock to make a toilet seat more comfortable, the successful hacks are designed to be fun, inexpensive time-savers. Those that don't live up to the hype are exposed, and undercover hacks challenge members of the public to overcome pitfalls.

A ragtag group of strangers works to transport him to the West Coast, but they don't know about his dark secret, which could threaten all. I don't watch much TV so basically any show I do watch is my fav.
Chasing Life #1 favourite show, I am so obsessed.
It's in first season on ABC family (spark in Canada).
from the abc spark website because if I describe it I'll either spoil it, or make it sound super stupid.. maybe both XD
Chasing Life follows twenty-something April (Italia Ricci), a smart and quick-witted aspiring journalist, who is trying to work her way up the ladder at a Boston newspaper by trying to impress her... hard-nosed editor. When not pursuing the latest scoop, April tries to balance her ambitious career with her family – her widowed mom Sara, rebellious little sister Brenna and her grandmother. Just as things start to look up at work, home and on the romance front with co-worker Dominic, April gets the devastating news from an estranged uncle that she has cancer - See more at: http://www.abcspark.ca/shows/chasing-life#sthash.XKtIt4xk.dpuf
(yeah, I'm leaving that link in, if it'll let you view them outside of Canada, or you're in Canada, it has some clips on there too)
I feel like it's very real as far as TV shows go, it does obviously take some liberties so that it's fit for TV and entertaining, but overall it feels fairly real and relateable. It's often quite powerful and moving, I cry like every week. Maybe not the show to watch if you're not in to that kind of sentimental make you cry stuff. But it's just so good.
Jane the Virgin Very close 2nd
Also in it's first season on the CW I believe. IDK I don't get to watch it on the proper channel in Canada. Good year for new shows though.
Just a very very brief description from IMDb. It's all that needs to be said "A young, devout woman discovers that she was accidentally artificially inseminated."
I honestly thought I'd hate this show, but I was bored so I tried it. It's wonderful. So much drama, I live for the drama. Also the narrator is totally amazing. I hardly get to see it though, and sadly it doesn't air online free in Canada. It also airs at the same time as Chasing Life, so the weeks I can watch it I always struggle with "Which one?" I tell myself it should be Jane the Virgin because Chasing Life I can watch online... but it's still difficult, I want to watch both right away.
and Survivor very close 3rd
I hope this doesn't need to be described still as it's about to start season 30 and has been very popular. I'm so excited for season 30 next week though. Hopefully a more exciting season than 29 which wasn't their best. I just love all the drama, it's so entertaining.
Honourable mentions are Amazing Race and Big Bang Theory. I enjoy watching both a lot, but I don't obsess over them. I'm too lazy to describe them, but at least BBT probably doesn't need it, nor Amazing Race if you're in North America (I dunno if it's popular elsewhere, but I don't think it really is)
Here's a ridiculous sketch from Portlandia:

https://themostevilfish.wordpress.com/
It's about Hannibal Lecter and the man who will eventually catch him William Graham. If you have ever seen Silence of the Lambs or Red Dragon this is what the show is based on, but takes some liberties which not only extend the show but turn it into something not seen of TV in years.
That's all my opinion of course and those who watch it lol. It's also not for the faint of heart as it can get gruesome like you wouldn't believe.

I like Z nation, because its allitle corny, but yoou cant really compare TWD to Z Nation because Z Nation is a lower budget production, and thats why I love it so much.

12 Monkeys-Syfy
A man from the post-apocalyptic future, Cole uses a dangerous, untested method of time travel to get from 2043 to the present day. He is on a mission to locate and rid the world of the source of the plague that, eventually, will annihilate the human race. Assisting him is Dr. Cassandra Railly, a virologist who must decide whether to do harm in order to save the world -- despite that she has taken a Hippocratic oath. The sci-fi series is based on Terry Gilliam's 1995 film, which starred Bruce Willis as Cole.
