Issue with save while Moving to a New Town

Apologies, I don't know which EP this option came with, so I'm going with Island Paradise because I think that was the first time I saw it.
Basically, I always save my game before I make major changes, so I've twice now, saved, moved my Sim family to a new town and then did the Save As that they offer you. I renamed the save and everything. Only problem is, it doesn't appear to do a save as, despite purporting to. I rename the file and save it and it simply overwrites the existing save with no name change whatsoever.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is the only workaround to create a Save and then a Save As with the new name prior to the relocation?
