Question about recipes with store ingredients?

Ok so the cooking skill is my all time favorite skill in The Sims but something I've never understood is how to get my Sims to make specific things?

I own the Bohemian Garden set and when I found out you could make blueberry, lemon, etc pancakes, I got super excited! But is there something I'm missing out on?

Is there a specific way to make your Sim cook specific meals? For example, could I have my Sim specifically make blueberry pancakes or lemon pancakes or do they just do it by random and by whatever they have in their fridges?

I could be wrong but how I understand that it works is that whatever is in your inventory your sim will cook with first. So if you want blueberry pancakes, put blueberries in your inventory.

Yep you should be able to just the harvestables into your inventory and the fridge will pick from that, but I had an issue where my sim still had to pay to make pancakes and her inventory was full of stuff.
