A question about flash drives

I recently purchased a 64gb flash drive to back up my 'clean' sims folder.

This is where I get confused :?

The flash drive says I have 62.4gb free - nothing on it.

My clean sims folder is 20.2gb. (the one on my desktop).

When I copy the folder to my flash drive it says the sims folder is 13.6gb.

When I check the usage of the flash drive it says 41.8gb free of 62.4gb.

leaving the content of the folder at 20.6gb.

Why the figure of 13.6gb? does the flash drive compress the contents?

Could somebody please explain this anomaly to me please. I hate not knowing 'why'.

Anyone? I want to know if my whole folder is backed up.

I'm no expert on backing up on a flash drive, but your flash drive content shows to be about 152 files less than your original file content files. Maybe look through and see if all the files are showing up.

I will go through the files and try and find the missing files. I wonder why they didn't all copy.

I have backed up this particular folder 3 times and it says a different size every time.
